Merry made us a delicious cake! It looked great too. With that being said, trying to get a sample of her cake was impossible. We tried 3 times. The first time she«didn’t know we wanted to try them.» The second time she gave away our box and we had to try samples of flavors we didn’t even want. The 3rd time, I drove 50 minutes there to find her not there even though we had an appointment. She is a sweet lady, but a bit scatter-brained and maybe over-whelmed. Also, she promised me fresh roses on the cake and their weren’t any. The florist forgot them but she should have also checked in with her that day to make sure the flowers were delivered.

My husband and I ordered our cake from Merri’s when we married in 2005. The cake was well received by us and our guests. It was delicious, very pretty, and best of all we had the top tier on our 1st anniversary. Merri was gracious, and patient when we were deciding on the cake layers and fillings. I would and have recommended her to others.

My parent’s birthday party was on a Sunday and the Wednesday before another baker cancelled my cake order. I called Merry’s that afternoon and she was understanding and promised me I’d have the cake Sunday morning. Not only was it ready but it was beautiful and EXACTLY what we wanted. This will now be my «go to» bakery. I even took cards to the party so others could share my great experience.

My cake was mostly correct, but there were some mistakes that I thought shouldn’t have happened. Don’t get me wrong, the cake was cute, and it wasn’t BAD, but it wasn’t exactly what I ordered. I told her that my fiancé and I love Boston Cream doughnuts, and so we wanted a cake that tasted like that. We said yellow cake, with fudge and Boston cream filling. There was only fudge in the filling/No Boston cream. That’s a major part of making it taste like a Boston Cream doughnut. So we were disappointing with that. As far as the outside of the cake, I loved it except for 2 things; I drew a picture of what I wanted with sheet music that would go across the middle tier. It looks like maybe she is limited to the width that she can print the sheet music, so it was shorter than the width of the square tier. It made it look sort of silly and slapped on like a sticker instead of spanning the length of the tier. Also, on the top layer I wanted«{C & L}». I specifically drew the«&» symbol, and instead was drawn the number 3 with the two dots on top and bottom. I am a graphic designer, so this bothered me a lot even though it’s not a big deal to others. The point is that is how I drew it, and the drawing should have been followed.

I went to Merrys Custom Cakes when my wedding cake got cancelled. A week out from my wedding, I went and asked for a red velvet cake(which this request got me laughed at at other bakeries). They not only have me a red velvet cake, but they gave me a 3 tiered topsy turvy cake, with 3 different flavors. Each layer had a different filling and everything was covered in cream cheese icing. It was beautiful! They also delivered it to the reception an hour away for only $ 13!

The cold, hard, honest truth about Merry’s is… their Good… for the area. Let me explain. The business Itself is small scale; it on some secluded road in the middle of rural Stroudsburg. This is not one of those super, mega bakeries like Charm City Cakes, the cake artists are no Duff Goldman and your cake is not going to be ‘pimped’ out. Go there with that mentality from the gate and you won’t be as disappointed as the previous reviewer. Now that we got that out of the way, I will say that they make very pretty cakes when they stick to what their good at. Sugar flowers, butterflies, light fondant work these are their strong suits(see my pictures). The moment you ask them to get too detailed with 3D art and heavy fondant work, you are going to be disappointed. So keep it simple and you’ll have a good looking, tasty cake, albeit simple, and a few extra bucks in your pocket. The cakes themselves are delicious although they could be a tad more moist with a little less icing(I always end up scraping off some). For what its worth, their inexpensive, close to home(if you live in the Water Gap area), and the staff is friendly and helpful.
