The food is little more than adequate, but the site, views, and lager are excellent. We were permitted access to pretty much the entire Lodge, including a variety of picturesque seating areas and outdoor patios after we dined. We didn’t lodge there, but very much enjoyed the stellar views and the additional drinks we took from the dining room into one of the secluded nooks. Well appointed and romantic, but the food is no reason to come. Intend on a drink or two and enjoy the ambiance.

Spectacular views! This is a great outdoor place for local brew and wine. We ate at the indoor restaurant but would have, in retrospect, just stayed at the lounge for a less formal and less expensive meal. The beer is brewed on the property and was fabulous. I would return next time we are visiting Stowe.

This was our first time visiting the lounge and had a great meal. The burger(made with their farm raised beef) was excellent. I always order my burgers well done and it wasn’t dry. My boyfriend got the pasta with poblano cream which was very good as well. Cocktails were just okay(but we are admitted cocktail snobs). And the VonTrapp dunkel sundae was very good!

I have been here several times over the past five years or so, and I have been rather disappointed anytime I order anything other than a burger. It’s quite expensive, and I expected better. I ordered the pastrami sandwich which was full of fatty meat on really thick hard bread — the kind that cuts your mouth(which it did). My husband had the halibut which was good but for $ 26 came with nothing else. The kids ordered pasta off the kids menu which was fine and nothing special which we expected. We ordered Trapp beer which is delicious but for $ 5.75 you are given a tiny glass. We asked for bread and it was never delivered to us. The room is rather dated with Austrian style décor and light blond wood everywhere. The waitresses wear very dated Austrian style dresses as uniforms — if I were the owners I would get rid of the uniforms — they just look silly. The piano player was playing songs from the Sound of Music — it was a little much… I don’t know if the owners want this to feel touristy, but it does. The views are amazing and I think a little updating would go a long way… But I suggest not going for the food. Go for the xc skiing or hiking.

I ate here twice during a recent trip. The first night I ordered the bratwurst. Because of the exorbitant price I expected at least the size of brat sold at ball games so I only ordered one. It was about half the size I expected and was quite dry. The sauerkraut was very bland. The server, however, was prompt and cheerful and we couldn’t complain at all about him but I left the restaurant hungry. The next time I ate at the Lounge, my husband and I treated our daughter, her husband and their one year-old to dinner. Since the Lodge asks that diners with small children eat early we arrived at 5:30 p.m. and ordered our dinners. Although there were few diners in the restaurant our grandson’s order didn’t arrive for almost a half an hour and we adults ordered an appetizer that never came. My half chicken dinner was artlessly cooked — flavorless with skin that was far from crisp and certainly not worth $ 26. My husband and daughter ordered the wiener schnitzel and said it was middling, again tasteless with a soggy crust. Upon ordering dessert, my husband told the waiter we never got our appetizer which was foie gras. The waiter gestured towards the kitchen and said the cook was still cooking it. As it takes only about two or three minutes to cook foie gras and it had been nearly an hour since we ordered it, it was obvious that the waiter had forgotten the order. The fact that he blamed someone else was cringe making. Three of us ordered the ice cream for dessert and the salted caramel ice cream was phenomenal. Even in the land of Ben and Jerry’s, don’t miss it. Also, our waiter did give us three scoops of ice cream rather than two which I figured was a goodwill gesture.

This is a gem of a place, except when it is awash in young kids which can be noisy. A cozy bar/eatery with a nice fireplace, and wonderful views. We’ve been coming to the«lounge» for at least a decade and it is always consistent. In the summer we dine on the outdoor patio, and in winter by the fireplace. My personal favorite is the Wiener Schnitzel, it is always perfect.
