Surprisingly crowded for a late sunday afternoon. Tex/mex or beef/fish.take your choice. something for everyone all in one restaurant. The three of us had a very decent meal. plenty of chips and salsa… wife had a well made margarita… and I enjoyed my Jack and Coke. Wife had a grilled salmon dish and enjoyed it very much. my son and I each had the medium sized 16 oz. prime rib… cooked perfectly… decent slab of beef. our terrific waiter checked with the kitchen to see exactly how much prime rib was left… seemed like he truly cared. meals may seem a bit expensive but you do get a fresh garden salad… rolls and a potato. No room for dessert. we enjoyed the atmosphere. a multi leveled barn building. not sure about some of the negative reviews… but our time here was enjoyable all around.

This place is expensive but it’s always fun. The food is pretty good, there is a decent enough mix for people who prefer Americanized Mexican food and those who prefer more traditional dishes. I like the atmosphere; the decorations don’t feel cheesy. Also, do not come here if you are in a hurry. The service is usually slow.

Say YES to Chucks!!! I love this place. It is a huge restaurant that is filled with the best mexican food I have had. It is the perfect place to go to with friends. I have celebrated many of my friends birthdays here as well as other celebrations. It is also a great spot to bring your parents and family to! I have always had great service here. There is dark lighting throughout the restaurant, but nothing too crazy. They offer a great selection of margaritas– frozen or on the rocks along with other alcoholic beverages. The bar is a great place to hang out and drink and eat, or the dining areas are too! I have had some of the best times here at Chucks, and continue to keep them coming! They have bottomless chips and salsa– which is great to munch on while you wait for your meal. I usually get the taco salad– with chicken or veggies– i go back and fourth. My friends get the mini chimmies and nachos. I have to say I always regret not getting the nachos, they look so amazing. and there is never any left over for me to try! Overall, I recommend Chucks Margarita Grill to anyone who is in the UCONN area. Perfect for dinner and drinks! They have earned a 5 star rating from me.

Below Expectations for Customer Serice! We called on the way to Chuck’s to ensure that they would have a table ready for about eight people. The hostess told us that she would check and then ensured my wife that yes, they do have enough room for 8 people within the next 15 minutes. What happens? We arrive, and the hostess tells my wife that SORRY, there are NO tables available until about 50 mintues. Well, we tried to explain to her, that we just called you on the phone, and you told us that yes indeed, Chuck’s /Margarita has space for eight people. Then, the hostess seemed very confused, even said to us, she did not remember talking to my wife. etc etc. We asked to speak to the manager, a middle-aged man comes waltzing down the stairs with a sarcastic smile on his face, and to my amazement was not in any shape or form ‘empathetic’ to our situation. Looked as though, he had other more important things on his mind. Well, we ended up leaving and eating at The Bidwell, a much more accomadating restaurant in Coventry, and better customer experience over-all. I feel more empathetic to Chuck’s/Margarita with the two stars.

Came for my dad’s birthday– sat upstairs on a Monday night. Place wasn’t too busy and the noise level was good. They brought crayons and some craft thing for my nephew which was good for entertaining him. Our server was prompt, friendly, knowledgable and had a great sense of humor. Enjoyed the habernero mango margarita which was good but would have been better had it been spicier. El zarape was fantastic — really enjoyed it. Burritos were given thumbs up around the table as well as fajita salad. Nothing fancy and a little pricey but worth it for quality American Mexican fare. Salsa is awesome and spicy and they bring a ton of it when u arrive– good for a big group too. Go if u want some sloppy cheap day Nosh and big margs!

Went to Chucks for a friends birthday get together. Our table was ready, our waitress was wonderful, and the food was delicious. We had a variety of meal choices from the fish burrito to top sirloin entrees and there were no complaints other than the long wait for the food to show up. We were all pretty starved by then. Although it’s near UConn don’t expect college student prices; they offer a large vegetarian selection, the average meal per person is about $ 20, unless u get the steak which climbs close to $ 30, or a hamburger for $ 10– a little pricey for a Mexican food joint. There is plenty of parking and the upstairs dining area is rustic and quaint, the barn like feel really ties in with this agricultural section of CT. Even for a mid week dinner this place was packed and I will definitely be coming back as the food, drinks, and service were on point.

Just went to chucks margarita grill w a party of 8ppl. We called before we arrived and they said no problem, come on down. We arrive there and we get to hostess stand and say we have 6 adults, 2 children, laday says ok, we will be right with you. A few minutes go by, and the hostess goes, unfortunetly we can’t sit yo because we have to many reservations! The reservation list had about 5 names on it and we had just called 15 minutes before. I asked for manager and he came out and thought it was pretty comical, as my 7 year old little cousin was crying her eyes out cause she chose that place for her birthday dinner. Will never go there again, I’m not even from this area, but when I do come back will not go there. Never have I heard that we can’t sit you when the place is more then half empty.

THEWORSTSERVICE! We showed up at 7:55 for the happy hour that started at 8, we asked the waiter and he said he had never heard of any discount, when the check came he then told us we were right and there actually was a discount at 8 but we ordered our drinks too early to get it…

Pros: Good margaritas Good food Fun atmosphere in the bar area Cons: Upstairs can get very cold if you’re in a drafty spot Service is hit or miss — sometimes it’s great, sometimes you feel like your server forgot about you Overall, I’d recommend coming here as it’s one of the better restaurants in the area — but take that with a grain of salt as there is a very short list of «great» restaurants nearby. I’ve been here quite a few times and would recommend coming in a little earlier/later than peak times if you want a seat at the bar. I much prefer the bar as upstairs gets very drafty and cold in certain areas.

Please please pleeeease if you want good Mexican food avoid this place like the plague. It’s literally one of the only places I’ve ever literally not been able to eat the slop presented to me. A pig finding the barbecue burrito in it’s trough wouldn’t eat it, on top of that the plates while you’re warned they are hot, were literally instant blister hot, my arm lightly brushed against the edge of the plate and it burned me. Don’t come here please for the love of any deity you might believe in.

Sat 10÷10÷15, sat in the lounge. Awful server, got the wrong food, and was discouraged from getting the correct food because of «how backed up» the kitchen was. No compensation on the check and eventually had to pay at the bar because despite taking care of the tables around us, the server never returned to pick up the check. All around terrible experience at one of our favorite places.

Food is OK. Drinks are great and reasonably priced. I thought I had a 3rd head when I walked in and people stared. Guests were unfriendly at bar, but that has little to do with owners and more to do with the state of relations in America. Definitely wouldn’t recommend to minorities… unfriendly stares and atmosphere.

down at UCONN on business and this place was recommended to me by a few UCONN personnel. I had dinner in the lounge early on Monday evening, sitting at the bar. Service was quick and the bartender was very polite and sociable, always making sure my chip basket was full and my soda was refilled. Had the baked French Onion soup which was very good with the gooey cheese dripping over the edge of the bowl like I like it. The Super Burrito was good size(I couldn’t finish it) and tasty. I saw another customers King Crab Legs and they looked and smelled great as did all the other dishes being served. The atmosphere was ok… with the word Margeritta in the name I was expecting a more festive atmosphere lol. but it was 5:00 on a Monday, maybe it gets more festive as the night goes on.

This is my favorite restaurant in Storrs, CT. When I visit family this is a must do for lunch or dinner. I can’t say enough about the food. The drinks are fantastic too. Service is typical for a college town. We had no issues. Our waiter was very patient. Our food came prompt and all orders were correct. Good enough for me! This was a busy weekend with graduation coming up, family and friends celebrating. They keep the tables turning over as fast as possible. We got there early and didn’t wait in line. The lines were forming to get in when we left! I hope to be back up there in the fall!

This place is such a college throwback for me. In the years much before Storrs became all fancy(well, fancier) and built up, one of the only«destinations» off campus was Margaritas. Like, you went there for all your friends’ birthdays. And it was fantastic. Last night, some friends and I were in the area and decided to descend upon Margaritas for some overly sweet cocktails and quesadillas slopped together with insane amounts of congealed cheese. This isn’t a GREAT place but it serves tasty junky Tex Mex and has a townie-dominated atmosphere. The bathrooms are right off the lobby and the lobby smells like toilet. This was disgusting. Service was slow and food/drink were mediocre. Everything I remembered and more!

This was despicable. The waitress seemed uninterested. The lighting was too dim. They sat us next to the speakers that blasted loud music. The food was unfit for even those with low expectations. My chimichanga was tiny and they forgot to bring out our guacamole. When they did it was dark brown. We didn’t even eat it. I will give it to them their margaritas were good but I didn’t come here to drink. This was sad. I would avoid. Poor service, food, atmosphere, and ambience.

Chucks has long been a favorite watering hole for me and my friends. Happy hours are the best — cheap apps and margs that are delicious! Service is friendly and attentive but beware it’s a busy place so you want to call ahead of time for big groups or weekends. Tonight we had mini chimis and a vegetarian quesadilla– both were delicious. Highly recommend– good food, great drinks and a greet atmosphere.

I’m really not sure why we keep coming back to Chuck’s, given all of the many unique(and much more authentic) Mexican joints a lot closer to our home. Yet, return we do. I think mainly it’s because we enjoy the mildly funky dark bar atmosphere. I don’t believe we’ve ever even stepped foot in the main upstairs dining room. Oh, and they make a pretty decent Margarita(on the rocks, please… none of the frozen slushy stuff). Another reason may be that it is also a steakhouse. One isn’t limited to the often rather bland Tex-Mex menu. The trouble is, the Mexican food here just isn’t really that great. And they have a menu that is much bigger in size than it is in content. I almost always wind up getting the same things, because there just isn’t much variety. The items listed as Mexican dinners(they call them«Specials,» but they’re always on the menu) are really just the same couple of things with different fillings — Grande Burrito, Super Burrito, Pork Burrito, or Chimichanga vs. Chicken Chimichanga. A few times I went for the fish tacos, which are actually quite tasty — or, I should say«were,» as I stopped ordering them after I found out they were made from garbage fish, Tilapia. But if you don’t have a problem with it, the fish is light and crispy with a flavorful corn and bean salsa. My other regular choice is an appetizer of «Mini Chimis.» Two small chicken chimichangas, which I much prefer over the big dinner-sized plates. They’re crispy with a pleasing tortilla-to-filling ration, and served with a small taco-bowl full of sour cream and guacamole, and some shredded lettuce. Love ‘em, and have had them as my entrée on more than one occasion. There are a few(literally, three) grilled items; Shrimp skewers, chicken breast marinated in tequila(sounds intriguing, but never tried it) and a rib-eye steak done up with cilantro and typical Mexican spices. There is a selection of fajitas(basically the same fillings as found in every other dish — shrimp, a couple different kinds of chicken, steak or chorizo). The surprising thing, though, are the Mexican dinners, as I mentioned above. I mean, ONE style of enchilada? No molé sauce available on anything. All other items I mentioned above are also available a la carte, but the individual prices don’t really make sense; it’ll cost you more to get a single enchilada and a taco(a combo not offered as a «Special») than to just get a whole dinner. Overall, I recommend sitting at the bar. You’ll get more attentive service, faster Margarita’s and usually some entertaining company. No comments here about the steak house part of the menu. We’ve had burgers and steaks, and they’re just fine. But if you’re coming for Mexican food, do not expect to be blown away. Although I do love their salsa with a basket of warm chips.
