The service before and including the install was perfect. Then they completely abandoned me. I started in April, it’s now June over 100 degrees and they cannot even tell me when it will work. Two neighbors of mine went with Sunrun and are up and enjoying savings and great service. Not me, they don’t even give me updates. I cannot stress enough how amazing the start was, I even bought a couple hundred shares of their stock I was so impressed. I’ve lost thousands and now I see why.

I just received an unsolicited sales call from a guy representing Solar City((209) 546‑6030, Stockton, CA) even though I am on the Do Not Call list. I politely explained that my house already has solar. He hung up on me without another word. I would never do business with a company that showed such little respect to people who they illegally called in the first place.

All I have to say is do your research! ! I thought i had a good understanding of the way the solar system worked, based on what our horrible sales person(Josh Cook) told us. He sold us on a system that would produce all the energy we needed, and we would only have a very small bill to PG&E once a year. Well all this sounded good until we were slapped with a $ 2000 bill at the end of the year. Our crappy salesman designed our system on the front of our house where a 35 to 40ft tree shades. When I asked them if it was going to be a problem on several occasions I was told it was imputed into the simulator and it wasnt going to be a problem, and if it was a problem they would let me know because they monitor the system. They came out twice after installation and said it was under producing because it was really dusty. I asked if it was the tree and if I should remove it. Again I was told it shouldn’t be a problem. Well ten months went by and I didn’t hear anything so I am thinking all is well until I get my once a year PG&E bill for $ 2000. After spending lots of time on the phone and finally figuring out what happened. It turns out it was a combination of several things. First, I did not fully understand that were only paying solar city for production not useage. So when my bill got smaller I did not understand at the time that I wasnt really producing anything and drawing power from PG& E constantly. Second our salesman told us we would only be getting a bill from PG&E once a year and we more then likely would have a very small bill or even a credit.(Also didn’t know PG&E wont even send you an e-mail when you are on e-billing.) Well our new rep told us this system would have never produced enough to do that. He told us no matter what, we would have at least a $ 5 – 600 bill. Even after spending $ 700 to have the trees removed(that weren’t supposed to be a problem). Another lie from the salesman. After all this I realized that I had misunderstood a lot but I was also lied to a lot by the salesman(Josh Cook) who was just trying to get a system on our house so he could get his bonus, which by the way they get about $ 60 – 70 per panel they put up even if they do this to you. I had a bad feeling about this guy but I went with him anyway. It makes me mad that they are supposed to be the solar experts but they really are not. They put what they think will work in their simulator and tell you what you want to hear, but they really are just trying to get the system on your roof as fast as possible so the salesman can get his bonus and the company can take your tax credit. They really dont give a crap what happens to you after that. The part that is the most infuriating is the fact that when I called solar city to figure out what happened, and what we could do to fix the problem they were INNOWAY willing to help, and even went as far as telling me tree trimming was my responsibility even though the tree is the same size it was when they installed the system and it was in their design plans and simulator from the very beginning. Basically if you are considering getting solar GETITSOMEWHEREELSE. Solarcity makes you feel like you are being taken care of by the best but they hire people like Josh Cook who really have no idea what they are doing and dont mind leaving you out to dry because they already got their money. For a company that is worth over 400 million I find it completely unacceptable for them to not help in any other way except to add more panels. IFYOUDOGOWITHSOLARCITYANDTHEYSENDYOUJOSHCOOK, TELLHIMTOKICKROCKSANDREQUESTSOMEONEELSE. I get a 48 hr notice from PG&E and have to call every month now because I cannot make their min payment of $ 200 a month. I took responsibility for my mistake but you will have to take it up with BBB or take them to court to get this company to admit and pay for their mistakes.

So I’m a little frustrated with solar city. We started out in October and things moved right along until we had a question on design and where told that we would be getting less panels than we had originally planned on. Then everything just sort of stopped no communication. Finally after waiting for response I have to call to schedule redesign appointment that should have been today guess what no one called to confirm nor did they show. I gave just texted my rep for solar city let’s see what happens now.

My panels were installed 4 months ago but still not active. I called customer service three times and I was promised call backs from mgmt but received none. My sales guy isn’t even responding. I’m pretty ticked off. I will never refer anyone to this company!
