Worst customer service ever and that was only over the phone. Ask the guy where they are located and he wouldn’t give me the info unless he had what I needed. I recommend the Lodi location.

While the staff has always been friendly I have found this store to be lackluster due to the fact that the selection is limited to mostly«rock» related instruments only. If you are in the market for guitar, bass, or drums you are covered. Anything else is limited such as recording gear, pro-audio related effects, and less traditional instruments. Last time I went in there wasn’t a keyboard in sight nor even something as basic as a live mixer. For me this shop feels behind and provides little help for the more technical and involved musicians/producers. It does however remain a decent shop for what it does provide. Even Though the shop doesn’t come close to taking care of my needs I am sure that it will cover most basses for a kid just starting out with their first band.

I have mixed feelings about The Music Box in stockton, on one hand, i love bill who i believe owns the shop, he’s great to deal with, and he can set up a guitar, or probably any instrument really, to play as smooth as it gets, but in my mind thats about where it ends. My guitar was having an issue with its electronics wiring so i took it here to get it rewired, i asked bill if he knew how to do that sort of thing and he said sure no problem and it should be done by the next day. Well, i took a trip to tahoe after dropping it off, 4 days go by and i hadn’t received a call saying that its done, which i thought could’ve been maybe they lost my number, or maybe they just forgot to call, or maybe i gave them a wrong digit or something, so i come in 5 days later to hopefully pick it up and i find that it hasn’t even been touched yet, granted this isn’t a huge store its very small, i can’t imagine they have so much work they’re drowning up to their teeth in that it couldn’t be done in 5 days, but i give them the benefit of the doubt, i have another guitar i can play so it wasn’t a huge rush, they said it will be done tomorrow since i had waited so long already. Anyways, i come in the next day and its finished, but it isn’t right, my pickup switch had been installed backwards, the neck pickup didn’t even work at all, my tone knob was acting like a volume, in layman’s terms, the job was done but the job was done wrong. I told them it was all wrong and demonstrated it to them and they told me okay, we’ll do it again and correct the problem, once again i was told that it should be done LATERTHISAFTERNOON, which i did not believe but, oh well. It took another 4 days to fix at the shop, so now having waited more than 9 days for my guitar to work as it should, which really is not all that daunting of a task to rewire a guitar, especially for a music shop claiming they have done it before. When i finally came in to give it a go, all they had done was make the failing pickup work, they didn’t fix ANY of the other problems, i demonstrated it to the guy working at the counter and he felt bad for me and gave me my money back, claiming that bill shouldn’t have sold me a service that he obviously hadn’t done right… or didn’t know how to do? He also told me that he didn’t have a wiring diagram so he was just going off of how another guitar at the shop was wired. Okay? I took the guitar home, looked at the wiring and it was such a sloppy job, loose wires everywhere, crummy solder connections etc., i mean honestly I’m not surprised it didn’t work even close to how it should have, it looked like it was someones first time wiring a guitar. My guitar has Seymour Duncan Pickups, I opened my computer and found a wiring diagram in less than 5 minutes for my exact guitar on seymour duncan’s website(completely different than how they had jerry-rigged it), and spent an hour wiring it up myself, and it worked like a charm. I really was just disappointed that they couldn’t take the time to find a wiring diagram on the internet. Honestly i should’ve just done it myself, but i wanted a pro job, i wanted a clean job, I’ve seen it done before and i really just didn’t want to do it, but i guess if you want a job done right, do it yourself, or take it somewhere that is reputable… right? I’m not sure. Anyways, i like this shop, i really do, bill does a great set up, but i wouldnt take any electric instrument here for an electronics job, but if you decide to, make sure you print out a wiring diagram from the internet before you come in. They don’t really have great prices on any instruments on the wall, but i know they’re a business and have to make money somehow, so i won’t knock them for their prices. Sorry for the semi-subpar review guys, but i had higher hopes for my favorite local music shop.

I just started doing business with the Stkn Store. I prefer it over the Lodi location even though I live in Lodi. Why? Bill Stevens. Great guy and very in the no about whats up in the biz. A talented pro guitar player. I’ve been in the Biz for over 50 yrs. I used Bills music for years but the inventory is just to limited. You gotta carry Fender products or forget about it. Keep up the good work Billy. Frank John Colli Musician

without a doubt, this is the music shop to go to in the stockton area. bill runs the place, and is the nicest, knowledgeable, friendliest, talented, most down to earth guy you’ll ever meet. the entire shop is very relaxed and you can test out any instruments you like for however long you want. you can shoot the breeze with bill and the staff, and listen to the great stories he has with notable entertainers. chris isaak and his brother are fans of the shop, and you may see them there. prices are honest and extremely reasonable. and if he doesnt have it at the shop, he will locate whatever you need and ship it there. if you are lucky, bill may pick up a guitar and you can experience his awesome guitar-god talent. you just cant go wrong with this place

The man who runs the place is awesome. I went here for Mandolin stuff but they were out of Mandolin strings! I was so upset. But I did get picks and a chord book for it. The place didn’t seem to expensive at all. They actually had a cute little mandolin for 90 dollars. Really nice place, but they WERE out of the strings I needed.
