Mr. D’s is hella noisy & is located in a nice old brick bldg(w/an adjacent parking lot) wc use to house the engine & boiler room of the Wagner Leather Co. wc occupied the entire block back in in 1871(there’s a historical marker ourside). The bldg has really thick walls &GREAT soundproofing because it was entirely quiet outside but when I opened the door I was overwhelmed by a wall of sound of people — mostly locals — talking, yelling & laughing & generally having a good old time. After I adjusted to the dim, I moseyed up to the bar, ordered a draft & took in the«environment» — 6 TVs(3 over the bar &3 on the back wall. The entire room isn’t that large — about 30×50 — & there’s a «stage» upfront where live music is performed. Came in to watch the Belmont Stakes to see if California Chrome would win the Triple Crown(the horse lost) & decided this would be be perfect setting to watch the race & settled in for the long hall. Only cost $ 4 for a draft Modelo didn’t ask but domestic might be cheaper) & you can get all the free peanuts you want. Just don’t throw the shells on the floor; the barkeep will give you an empty plate to toss the shells in. There’s food available but you have to order it at a window at the kitchen in the back; no orders are taken at the bar. The cook will deliver it to you; there’s no wait service. Their main offerings are burgers, pizzas & sandwiches but I bought an oder of 8 chicken wings w/BBQ sauce for $ 6.95 wc were ok; not great or awful. There’s not much available in the way of places to eat & drink in beautiful downtown Stockton & from what I’ve seen Mr. D’s probably the best of the lot. So, if you’re in the area and are hungry &/or thirsty, you should check it out!

Good place to grab a beer and a pizza. Their onion rings are really good too… make sure you get the ranch dressing to go with the onion rings.

Let me begin by saying that my review has nothing to do with the food. That being said… we never got to eat. A friend talked us into going here instead of our regular Friday«pizza and beer» night location. After venturing into the less-than-favorable neighborhood, we turned into a fairly well lit parking lot. I’ll give them credit, at least it’s fenced. When walking up to the door of what claims to be a sports bar(did I mention it’s in the hood?), the door man /bouncer put his hand up and said«I can’t let you in». Puzzled, we asked why and were told it’s because of their dress code. For pizza at a sports bar??? I was in a blouse and jeans, but had a hoodie on over(it was pouring rain). And my hubby was in a «nice» NFL sweater. not a sweat shirt, but did have a hood. The man turned and pointed at a wrinkled piece of printed paper that read«no hoodies, no t-shirts, no attitudes»…and I can’t remember what else. Again… for pizza. We offered to remove our hoodies when we went inside, but the man at the door refused us. I assure you that we are very clean cut looking people who in no way could be mistaken for unsavory types(not that looks should matter that much). Apparently wearing your favorite sports apparel to this«sports bar» is simply not tolerated. After being turned away and treated so rudely, I can say we will not be returning to sample the food.

Yes, mr. D’s is in a very old building, and yes, it is mostly a bar. HOWEVR, if you don’t care what the building looks like, or that the guy behind the bar looks like a hell’s angel biker, then go have a pizza, you won’t be sorry! I remember my parents ordering pizza from Mr. D’s when I was really small. It was several years before I moved back into the area and had the chance to get a Mr. D’s pizza again. Ahhhh! Yummy! Now, I remember why my parents were so homo for their pizza. Mr. D’s has things a lot of other places don’t, like green olives. I never had green olives on a pizza until I had a vegetarian from Mr. D’s that did. WOW! Amazing! Yes, the place is primarily an old bar. However, even though I don’t drink, I still enjoy hanging out at the bar waiting for my pizza sometimes. I am never uncomfortable, and am always included in whatever conversation is going on. Despite being a bit rough looking, the crowd here is totally cool. If you don’t want to hang out in a bar, order your pizza to go. Mr. D’s is absolutely one of the very best pizzas in town, no kidding. Dante’s is still my favorite, and Mr. D’s is a real close second. Mr. D’s is WAY cheaper than Dante’s though!

Not a bad place to get an average to above average pizza,(lots of folks disagree) despite the building appearing to have a collapsing foundation and a desperate need of an overall remodel(which I think is taking place in the vacant lot next door)… I also stopped here once for happy hour about a year ago and I can still remember the strong long island ice tea the put hair on my chest and made it easier to choke down the awful pre-packed gas station quality club sandwich that I ordered… It was pretty damm bad!!! I believe the bread was near the molding stage as well, since it crumbled as soon as I touched it… Stick to the pizza and booze… Mr. D’s also seems to also have it’s share of regulars, mainly bikers and a few obnoxious daytime drunks… Other than that it’s a good place to grab a quick drink and a takeout pizza… Hopefully the remodel is in the near future…

As the other reviewer mentioned, this place looks(on the outside) like a building that was condemned in the early 1920s. That’s partially because all of the surrounding buildings WERE condemned in the early 1920s but yet this one still remains. Inside, however, it looks like you’re typical bar with a handful of tables for dining. There’s also a back room which looked like a cheap 1970s diner add-on. The visible kitchen is the size of a closet, and you order through what is basically a hole-in-the-wall. And the half-dozen or so people working inside were scurrying about like ants with aprons. I ordered their meat-lovers pizza, «small», along with a soda and side of potato salad. It was about $ 13, and fed me for lunch and dinner. The pizza was fantastic, and even better the second time when I warmed the rest up for dinner. No skimping on the toppings and the crust was tasty. The potato salad was really good, too. There was a suprise of pepper in there which I really enjoyed. For $ 2, it could have been a larger serving. And the soda… just like the other reviewer(Nathaniel) said, what is up with their soda machine? The Pepsi was totally watered down, but when I brought it to their attention they fixed it. So the only real negative I have to give this place is that, right at noon, the staff was overwhelmed with the phone orders, carry out orders, and me. Plus the guy who took my order didn’t quite seem«all there». Maybe he was just new.

What an interesting place. It’s like a dive bar, but with pizza. Great combination. Obvious Thunder den. Maybe a new pre-game hangout. I tried my best to not have a drink before going back to work. A friend of mine recommended this place, knowing that I worked downtown, and I decided to drop in today. When I was looking for it, I couldn’t help but notice that it was the only building on the south side of the street for the entire block. I mean literally THEONLYSTRUCTURE on the south side of Oak Street at El Dorado. If you miss this place, you’re blind. The atmosphere is like any typical dive bar, yet clean and sporty. It’s biker friendly and sport fan friendly. Kind of like the sports/brew pub on the miracle mile, without the attitude or the flamboyant investment(you know, «VB»). The jukebox is a little loud for a simple mid-day lunch crowd(12 people or so), but who really wants to turn the volume up and down based on the amount of people in the bar? The food and food staff were GREAT! I had a calzone and it was really good. The dough was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The stuffing’s were well balanced. The sauce was fresh. The fountain Pepsi was balanced(which seems to be hard to find around here, see below). AND Mr. D’s is right off of the RTDBRT stop. How convenient is that?! Anyway, I will give it a solid 4 stars for today. I will most definitely be heading back. Side note — how hard is it really to balance the syrup and the carbonated water? Why don’t businesses test their soda machines daily?
