Went to check out the infamous Google Barge tonight… its been national news that it’s new home for now is Stockton, and I just had to see what all the fuss was about. From news reports and friends I knew that you could only see it from across the water on the other side of the port, so it took a little time to find a suitable place to view it. If you want to see it, one way is to drive all the way down Mt. Diablo Ave westbound like you are going to Louis Park… once you get all the way to the end of Mt. Diablo, park your vehicle at the parking lot for Louis Park and the boat launch. Then walk down to where you can launch your boat and there is an actual path where you can walk out on a trail to the middle of the water… you can get a pretty good view of the barge from there. There might be some closer spots but since you can’t go into the other side of the port for security reasons this is a pretty good spot. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it’s hard to get close to see the barge and the area you have to park your car in and walk through isn’t exactly the best part of Stockton… I would do it during the middle of the day. But heck, its not everyday something cool is associated with Stockton… and it’s free to go check it out, so why not? :0)
