Chef is well versed with the menu, the fresh-off-the-plane seafood is always clean and carefully represented, and the wait staff are some of the friendliest in town. Every trip I make I order one menu item and I order a dish that I let the chef make for me, which so far has been unbeatable Also the hibachi dishes are never over done or underdone(seriously they are on point with everything. Love love love this place! A bit pricey but well worth the price. ;)

Really bad service by some high school douch, the food is good but I’m paying for service as well. We placed a 45 $ order for two people ! We are in the process of moving and asked for silverware, they assured us they put it in the bag. Well I guess their phones were more important then their jobs! Get bent you turds we work hard for our money and I will never spend it at your dump again

Fu Ji is amazing sushi chef! Highly recommended sitting at sushi bar and have him create special order chef suggestions, especially sashimi. Need to save room for the dessert!

The Pictures of the sushi on the menu were excellent and accurate. Well, at least from my date’s perspective. I am color blind, so how the hell should I know? I must say, the food was tasty AF. I was pleasantly surprised at the clean atmosphere of the bar area. Usually Sushi joints are shitholes, stocked with a staff that you can’t understand, but thank goodness this place is staffed by college kids who say things like«rad» and«awesome». The Mai Tai I enjoyed could have been a bit stonger to give me the booze goggles to hide the sadness and shame on my date’s face, that she has to eat with a chubby asshole, like myself, at a cut-rate sushi joint in the middle of the American Midwest where there the fish is as fresh as a pair of soiled boxer shorts after running Grandmas Marathon. The male server we started with pulled a disappearing act akin to an alcohol fueled prom romp that the cops would call a date rape, and put Anna in his place who was just lovely. She ran the tab very fast and thanked us for stopping in, as she should of because if you see the photos I took, we were the only two idiots in here. Def. recommend!

This is by far the best Sushi place in St. Paul. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by the sushi chefs who make you feel so welcome! You can go sit on the restaurant side, but personally I liked interacting with the sushi chefs and seeing for yourself how they mix and make the sushi! The taste is amazing because they know just how to mix their sauces and ingredients right! The head chef Fuji was hilarious and extremely generous! He even made me a delicious birthday dessert! I have been to different Osaka’s around the twin cities, but this is by far the best sushi place! Will definitely return!

Amazing service. Spectacular sushi. Always happy to take the short drive to Stillwater for a great sushi experience. Fuji, the chef, serves up the best sushi I’ve had in the Twin Cities. Needless to say, I’ll be back.

Ok, so I’ve been to Japan and had their sushi. Although this isn’t as good as it was in the heart of Tokyo, it’s a damn close second. I can honestly say that Futchy makes the best sushi I have had stateside. His playfulness and willingness to play around with different flavor combinations makes ever time I walk in the door an adventure. I took my pregnant girlfriend in and jokingly asked Futchy to make up some sushi that would make her have our baby. I didn’t expect anything, but sure as shit she popped the very next day. HESSOGOODHEMAKESPREGNANTWOMENGIVEBIRTH. Haha, that may be a little dramatic, but the sushi is really damn good. Come here.

Went in with my fiancé after work for a beer and a bite. The server was polite, but after taking our order, disappeared. The music was this really weird hip-hop/dub step mix that was annoying and loud. I’m trying to eat, I’m not at a dance club. We ordered apps off the happy hour menu, edamame and shrimp tempura. Both were just barely cooked and chewy. It looked like we were the only ones in the restaurant, and now I can see why. Bad service, ok food. Not planning on returning any time soon.

I live in Dwtn Stillwater and eat here almost weekly. Love this place and the food quality is superb! Chef Fuji is very accommodating and can make anything requested.

The sushi here is consistently good, but the service is consistently bad. Long waits, requested items that are never delivered, crappy menu knowledge. Sitting at the bar is a much better experience than the dining room. Better«service»(you can easily ask for what you need and they can’t disappear on you). Also it’s fun to watch Chef Fuji do his thing. This is not as big as the other locations. And I find it kind of odd that they don’t allow kids in here. Parking in Stillwater generally sucks, but there is a big public lot right across the street from Osaka, which makes it an easy place to stop for a quick lunch or dinner. Okay fine, I’m just kidding about the kids. But this location really is smaller than the other Osaka’s and there is no teppanyaki chefs here so if you have kids who love the table show, bring them to the Maplewood location. I’m not kidding about grocery stores though. Minnesota has now banned anyone under the age of 11 from grocery stores. If that seems believable to you, I love you, and I’m pretty sure we could have a lot of fun together so call the sitter and meet me at Osaka.

Went in with my five year old for dinner. It wasn’t busy but we had to wait for over an hour to get our order. The tables next to us turned over twice before got our food. Unbelievably terrible service. Won’t be back.

This is my favorite place to eat. I drive 40 miles to eat here. Not only is the sushi great, the staff is awesome. They really bring you through the whole experience. It’s also fun to sit at the sushi bar and watch Fu Ji prepare your food. I highly recommend Osakas!

Sushi was absolutely wonderful! Service was a bit show but the food was totally worth it. Not a good choice if you’re in a hurry but wonderful if you have time.

We have always loved the Osaka restaurants in the Cities, so decided to give this one a try. Time does not allow me to list all of the issues that evening, but here’s a quick synopsis: Having to ask numerous times for refills and drinks. Our meals arrived at 10 – 15 min intervals(my plate, 10 min later my wifes, 15 min later my dad’s, ect ect through the whole evening). Canceled part of our order when we asked if they could speed it up. Brought it out later with our to-go boxes. Mixed up the orders and brought the wrong food. Skipped out on the ginger salad and soup course for our hibachi. Brought the salad our later(with our to-go boxes) after asking twice. Were then told that they were out of all soups so they just skipped that part and didn’t offer a comp. Our waitress stated that ‘most people don’t eat those so I just don’t bring them out’. Had to ask numerous times for a rubber band to make my son’s ‘cheater chopsticks’. And a general ‘gruff’ attitude from the waitress the whole time. They did take a small percentage off of our bill due to issues with the meal. Approached the manager on the way out to mention our experience. Our waitress walks up, barges into the conversation, laughs at my wife when she says we had bad service, and then ARGUES with us about it. I grabbed my wifes hand at that point and exited the restaurant before tempers flared. On the way out I asked for the owners phone number. I was informed that the manager does not have his number(really? who actually believes that?), but they gave me a ‘generic’ email address. As of this point, I still have not gotten a response back from my email to that account.(go figure!) While regrouping on the sidewalk outside, two other groups exited the restaurant. The first one approached and said ‘we just watched what happened, and there’s NOWAY we are going to eat here this evening!’. The other group were some locals that had a nearly identical experience as ours. They stated that this was the last time they would ever be eating there. They didn’t even wait for their bill or the manager, but instead, put a $ 20 down on the table and walked out. We have eaten at Osaka in the Cities more than 70 times and have never had even close to this experience! This will be the last time we ever eat at this one.

Just had lunch at Osaka. Both rolls were fantastic, and super fresh. Even better, Fuji the sushi chef. Thanks for the great service, we will be back!

Don’t let the outside fool you: this is a clean, contemporary and good-sized restaurant. We went in on a Friday night and were seated in a big comfy booth in the room next to the room with the sushi bar. My salmon nigiri was an A. My husband had one of the specialty rolls, and seared tuna special. And oysters. He raved about the freshness. They were also a special and from the East Coast(they said where, can’t remember). Our server was really friendly. I had always defaulted to Shanghai Bistro for Asian cuisine in Stillwater, but I’m really glad to put Osaka on our permanent list too.

Came here with my family, tried a variety of dishes– and all of them were excellent! The Korean barbecue dish was flavorful– they do justice on the authenticity of the taste. The curry was phenomenal– this is what true curry taste like– it has that gradual spice and the kick comes a little after you take a bite– it’s not weak like most americanized Chinese/Japanese restaurants– nor is it extremely spicy– great balance. I would recommend this item. Had the chance to try their«Coon Rapids Roll». Simply delightful! The balance of the oyster and salmon and the sauce was fantastic. One of the best sushi I’ve had in Minnesota– and to think that one would be located in Stillwater! Great service! As a young adult, I enjoyed the upbeat-techno-dance music. Not sure if it’s appropriate for dining, but the food will help you forget your surroundings.

I recently visited Osaka’s in downtown Stillwater with 2 friends and we will definitely be going back! We sat at the lower bar where Fuji was making our sushi for us. He was awesome! We asked him to make us something that wasn’t on the menu and to make a personal creation from scratch. This was a great idea! He made us some of the best sushi we had ever had! Fuji was also very personable as well, and made us laugh a few times. The service was phenomenal! The girl that served us our drinks was also great! Our favorite new spot! 5 Stars all the way!

Caveat: I am not a sushi fan. Hubby and I came here for a tempura fix. The restaurant is clean and pleasant, and service was good. We both ordered the shrimp tempura meal. Our meals each came with a very good bowl of miso soup and a simple salad of iceberg lettuce with one tomato slice and a creamy dressing. The tempura portion was really large: five shrimp, slices of zucchini, sweet potato, and zucchini, and a broccoli floret. The batter was a little heavier and greasier than what I’d like, especially the broccoli. The little spaces between the broccoli buds were filled with batter that ended up being thick and doughy, not crispy. If we come here again, we will share one tempura meal and one appetizer portion of shrimp tempura.
