I have been going to the Retina Group of Washington for three years, both at the Sterling location and the Fairfax location. Dr. Osman is a wonderful and has helped me with my retinal detachment problems. He makes sure that I am comfortable and gives me breaks when he needs to laser my retinas. The office is clean and everyone is very friendly, but the wait time is very long. I have waited 45 minutes to see a technician, then another 30 minutes for the doctor in the second waiting room(granted, I had just received dilation and numbing drops so they take time to really set in). All in all, a great group of doctors and staff, but plan to spend a few hours there.

There is something wrong when you walk in a doctors office and notice everyone in the waiting room has a book. Everyone is not one or two people, it’s more like 15 – 20. Yes a book because Facebook, trivia crack and email on your phone won’t keep you occupied for the length of time it will take before you see someone. Your phone battery will probably die before you are seen. They will tell you to plan on 3 hours for your first appt, 2 of those hours will be a total waste of your time, maybe 2 ½. Total disregard for patients time, jobs, family, and sanity! Are they good, maybe but I’m not willing to subject myself to a half day for a 30 minute appt. Receptionists are pleasant.

I feel that the staff who work here behind the scenes should get a shout-out. Let’s get real: these appointments, as those of us who suffer them regularly know, are not barrels of fun, but this office does go out of their way to make you as comfortable as possible. 1) Friendly staff, always a plus. 2) Bottomless hot coffee, tea and filtered cold water to enjoy in the waiting room. It is a nice touch. 3) Once they put the drops in your eyes you will NOT be reading any magazines. They bring you to sit in a more private waiting room after this procedure, and I appreciate the massive-screened TV playing the news/weather. Yes, by that point they are just big talking colorful blobs, but you get the gist and the time does go by a little faster. The chairs are comfy in this room too, so I usually nod off. 4) Free, take-home, cool-kid, wrap around, plastic sunglasses! Why? Because«Ow, that bright sunlight hurts!» I usually wear them over my regular glasses when I drive home to look extra awesome. Let your inner dork breathe!
