Healthy Hound Playground

Our dog absolutely loves going to HHP. She can hardly wait to get in the door when we drop her off, which makes it so much easier to say goodbye when leaving her when I need to head out of town.
Our dog is a rescue. We got her at 7 months and she very sweet but not housebroken and very timid. Her extremely positive experiences at HHP have definitely played a huge role in her socialization. She is now a playful two year old who is much more confident and is model doggy citizen during dog park visits.
HHP’s practice of regularly taking the dogs outside to do their business is a huge benefit for us. We had a very challenging time with the potty training process and HHP had helped keep our pup on track. (I have had experiences elsewhere with previous dogs and they would come home and act like they had never been housebroken. That is a lousy way to end a vacation.)

My pets are so happy here and the staff takes such good care of them! We drive from Mayland to board them here and it is worth it!

I am very protective of our puppy and for the first few months had an in home dog walker when we were at work. We realized that our dog really craved interaction with other dogs and found healthy hound playground. At first he was a little nervous about being dropped off but how loves to go to daycare and is excited when we arrive to drop him off. During the day dogs are sorted by size and left in a big open indoor play area that is supervised. If you board your dog they put the dogs in a crate in the evening only. When our dog comes home after daycare he is exhausted. The place offers flexible drop off policies and a half day rate. HHP has been a great solution for us. If I could change one thing I wish the place would give a little report on your dog especially after you board overnight. I’d love to know if he ate well, played well with the other dogs, napped at all, etc. The staff will provide info if you ask but as I initially mentioned I am a little nutty over our dog and would love to understand his day better particularly his eating habits while he is away from home. All in all our dog seems happy when there and that makes us feel good and less guilty about bringing him there as needed during the week.

Three weeks after my puppy was attacked by another dog at Petsmart, I decided to try HHP. She had received 2 bites on her shoulder and one on the ear so I was more than apprehensive about her returning to a doggy daycare environment but she was bouncing off the walls. I explained to the staff my situation and they took great care of Ginger! I called to check on her at noon and was able to speak directly with the attendant. On the second day HHP staff were waiting in the lobby for morning drop off, greeting my puppy by name. My third day was great too. Ginger is well attended and so exhausted her head starts to nod during the car ride home. This place is clean, they care about your pet and my dog has fun in a safe environment.

I’ve been taking my dog here for quite sometime and I for some reason have just now decided to write a review about this place.

The Unilocal rating is 5 stars but my actual rating is 4.5 stars. I personally feel that this place is awesome and has an awesome staff, who absolutely love working with animals. Whenever I enter into this establishment my dog gets super excited and just forgets that I’m even his owner :(.
The price for this place is pretty reasonable when comparing it to other doggy daycare establishments. The staff here does such a great job with getting to know the owners and pets, that after a few visits they will already have remembered your pet’s name. Also because of their success they have since expanded and can now hold even more dogs for boarding. When it is time to pickup my pet I can just say this guy who is always full of energy is not as energetic and is normally pooped for about 2 days before all his energy is back.
Now I know with such a raving review about the establishment, staff, and how they are with the pets you’re wondering why is my actual rating 4.5 atars. Well here are a few things I personally think should be addressed:
1.) Right now they don’t have any live video streaming happening so you can never see with your own eyes how well your dog is doing and is being treated. You just have to take the staff’s word. I’m hoping at some point thus changes.
2.) On the brochure it explains how they will send text messages of your dog’s status and pictures of your dog and friends if he/​she had any that they interact with at all. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t received one message or photo. I typically have to call for status and be told by the staff about his partner in crime lol. I feel like if they aren’t going to do the live streaming then they should make sure this is happening.
3.) My last issue has to do with contacting them. It can be a little difficult at times when you call this establishment. Sometimes the person who answers the phones at the front desk also helps out with getting the dog back to the play area thus leaving the front desk unattended. Thus nobody is available to answer calls. You typically have to call a few times before you can finally get a hold of someone.
In conclusion, even with those small issues this place is a place that my pet love’s as do I, and will continue to bring him here going forward and recommend anyone looking for a dog daycare to give these guys a shot.

My husband and I have been using HHP shortly after they opened. We previously put our dog in day camp at Petsmart, but were not thrilled with how the dogs were confined. HHP put a flyer on our windshield when we were out at an event and after looking at their website, we decided to give them a try and have been with them ever since. HHP does NOT keep our dogs in a crate and instead, has an open concept and lets them roam and play unconstructed, which was very important for us. When the weather is nice, they open the doors so the dogs have fresh air.
In September, we ended up adopting a dog that HHP had been fostering.
The staff are awesome — they genuinely love the dogs they watch. I have ZERO worries about my dogs when they are at HHP. If the staff notice that one of my dogs is acting a bit off or seems to be sick, we get a phone call immediately alerting us. They genuinely care about our dogs and ask if they’re feeling and doing better. I’ve recommended HHP to our friends and neighbors.

After 14yrs with another kennel we tried HHP. I was a little nervous but as soon as we walked in I knew my pups were in good hands! It is a very friendly clean environment and the staff were very understanding and gave me a personal full report when we picked them up. I really appreciated the fact that they took beds, toys, and leashes. At pick up they returned everything just as it was. It is the first time we have picked up our dogs and they weren’t over excited to leave! Thank you so much Brandon and Shayda!!! I’m considering doing doggy day camp now!

i love this place. the price is more than reasonable for what you get, whether it’s half a day of daycare or a couple days of full-​on boaring, and the staff seems very caring and concerned about the welfare of your pet, which is always a good thing.
my one complaint is that you can neither see your dog (s) on a webcam (as some other doggie daycares in the area offer), nor can you even see them through the window when you pick them up or drop them off. this is because although there’s an observation window in the lobby, there’s also a huge 6 – 7 foot fence around the play area. so you can’t even see what the dogs are up to, or how they’re interacting with the other dogs or the staff, making it impossible to gauge how everything’s truly going. don’t get me wrong, my dog always seems nothing but worn out from a hard day of play when she gets home, and she seems perfectly fine when we pick her up and afterward, but it’s just weird that i’m not allowed to see what’s going on at any point. if she didn’t seem so normal upon pick-​up, i’d be apprehensive about the whole thing.
otherwise, love this place. very unpretentious and the staff obviously truly cares about you and your pet’s experience.

This place is «as good as it gets» for my dogs and their needs.
I used Healthy Hound Playground for the first time this weekend and was very satisfied with the service, employees and the facility. I have just moved into the area with my two hyper active puppies and was nervous about parting with my old boarding facility. Right when I walked in to check my dogs in, there was a puppy right in line in front. That pup could not wait to get into the play area. No exaggeration, this dog was running at the door and barking at the receptionist to let him in. My first thought was «that’s a good sign» and my second thought was «let that pup in!!»
I had tried out two other facilities before this place that I was not satisfied with. The first boarding facility I used was the same rate as Healthy Hound but did not offer ANY of the services this place offered. My dogs were in a crate the whole time I was away and I was allowed to pay for additional walks however. I couldn’t believe it, shouldn’t some exercise be included in your services? Healthy Hound on the other hand… my dogs played the whole time I was gone. While they did not have any puppy-​cams for me to verify this, I can say that my dogs slept the ENTIRE day yesterday (I guess the agility course got the best of them). Generally when I pick up my dogs, I take them straight to the dog park to get their energy out, not this time. They fell asleep around 11:00am yesterday and only woke up to eat and went right back to sleep. I have to say, it was a very productive day yesterday for my household chores!
The employees and receptionist were very helpful and accommodating. I actually filled out a few forms before I dropped them off with their personality types which was refreshing. It’s like they actually wanted to know my dogs rather than just putting them in the crate for the evening. I will say I need to specify next time to not have their collars on while they are crated for the night. My one dog ate the other one’s collar (brand new) and I had to go buy another one right after.
I will definitely be using this place again for the mere reason that my dogs had an excellent and active time. Having two 8 month old huskies, exercise is what they need and this place accommodated that.

After touring multiple boarding facilities my wife and I walked in to Healthy Hound Playground and immediately felt a huge relief, the atmosphere was calm and the staff was friendly it only took 5 minutes to realize we had found the place for our two pups.
When we got them back after a long weekend they were exhausted and happy and possibly disappointed to leave.
The owner and staff are great, I have recommended to multiple friends already and will continue to do so.

I need to preface this review by saying my dog attended a different doggie daycare for 4 months with no issues and enjoyed playing with the dogs and the daycare staff. That unnamed doggie daycare has webcams running ²⁴⁄₇ so that you can watch your dog whenever you want, which we did often so in addition to what the staff told us we are sure she did fine. When we decided to try out Healthy Hound my husband and I were apprehensive that we wouldn’t be able to watch her on a webcam.
Healthy Hound staff takes the dogs outside (leashed) for bathroom breaks. I like this in theory but there isn’t a fenced-​in area, it’s right next to the street, and I wonder what they do if the dogs attempt to run away. The first time I took our dog to Healthy Hound I pulled into the parking lot and noticed a staff member taking two dogs out to go to the bathroom. I watched from my car and noticed he was yelling at the dogs and pulling at their leashes. It wasn’t violent, he just seemed to be impatient with the dogs. The dogs didn’t seem worried but they also did not happily trot off with the guy, they seemed to want to go back inside.
Upon entering there is a small lobby, it’s set up for people and not really dog-​friendly. There is a glass coffee table and sofa, and there is a front desk with one receptionist. I asked the receptionist how they discipline the dogs if they misbehave. Some doggie daycares use spray bottles with water, others use time-​outs, others have been known to kick dogs (!!!) or pin them to the ground to make them submit. The receptionist said they just tell the dogs «no.» It was very quiet, even though there were dogs inside the facility. I wasn’t sure if this was a good sign or not. Our dog was a little nervous but I left quickly so she could deal on her own. When I picked her up she seemed fine and the staff said she did great. The next time my husband picked her up, and he said she seemed very anxious. The staff said she did great and played with other dogs. But she didn’t seem tired at all — and when she plays with other dogs all day she is usually exhausted by the time she comes home. She was very hyper so she probably didn’t play very much.
The third and last time my husband dropped her off and observed her from the mezzanine level. He said a staff member picked up our dog around the chest and lifted her up, and then dropped her back down. She wasn’t injured but it seemed to make her nervous and afterward she just stood around and didn’t play with anyone. She’s very playful, she likes to roughhouse and she’s a muscular 40-​lb dog, so it just seemed odd that she didn’t want to play. When I picked her up I observed from the mezzanine as well. A lot of the dogs seemed to be standing around, but some were playing. I couldn’t find my dog in the group and then realized she was cowering in the corner. She looked scared. The receptionist, who had accompanied me to the mezzanine, commented, «Oh she’s taking a nap.» I asked if she had played at all that day and the receptionist said yes but she must be tired and was napping. I would have liked it if they called me and told me that she wasn’t doing well. I also would have preferred that they told me the truth when asked directly. When they removed her from the play area she ran into the lobby unaccompanied, no collar/​harness on, and jumped onto me. I had to wrangle her but not before she barked at the receptionist and at a customer who came in to pick up their dog. The receptionist commented that our dog didn’t like her.
From observing my dog over a period of 4 months at a different doggie daycare, I knew that this wasn’t the norm. I’m not sure what it was that made her scared/​nervous to be at Healthy Hound. The staff did not seem knowledgeable about dogs. The owner is usually present, which is great, but he needs better trained staff and possibly more oversight. Additionally, our dog was obviously anxious. It could have just been the change of scenery, or it could have been the staff. I have no idea because I only observed a brief period of time and neither the owner or the other staff could provide me with any honest answers. All they said was that «She did great.» I felt lied to, and my dog didn’t seem happy. I wasn’t comfortable taking her here again.

We were very nervous about having to leave our 5 month old puppy, but Healthy Hound made us feel very confident he would be well taken care of. The entire staff was helpful and friendly. Our boy seemed to love it there and we wouldn’t even consider taking him anywhere else when we are out of town.

I had to go to FL for an unexpected trip and left my two pups there for the week after having going to their grand opening and what an experience! The staff at Healthy Hound Playground treated my boys as if they were their own, when I picked them up they were dang-​near disappointed to have to leave! Now that we’re home, they are exhausted… which is phenomenal! So glad I went with Healthy Hound Playground over having them kenneled… if you’re in the market for wearing your dogs out — this is definitely the place! Thank you Healthy Hound Playground!

True dog lovers here, and it shows in every possible way. The facilities are clean and thoughtfully designed, and every effort is made to know your dog and to provide a fun and healthy experience. Dogs are not penned up all day but have the chance to interact with one another and with friendly staff, including an on site trainer. Dogs are safely fenced in a large flexible space that can be configured as one large indoor dog park or up to 3 individual spaces, and fresh air circulates constantly thanks to large overhead garage-​type doors. The best possible home away from home experience either for doggie daycare or boarding. So glad we brought our dog here for her vacation!

We have a very hyper-​active young husky who was going crazy being left at home alone all the time. As she got bigger (see: destructive) we tried out a few other facilities. We were frequent Petsmart daycamp/​boarders but were not thrilled by it. On an average visit they would come home all strung out like they hadn’t played at all. It was great because she wasn’t at home destroying, but we still had to take her daily. Then we found this place which is conveniently close to us. That being said, even if we didn’t live super close this place is worth every penny. Here are the pros and cons;
Pro: While petsmart throws everyone in a room and just lets them roam, there is no real effort for the dogs to have to play. When I show up I hear the employees talking to the dogs in the rooms and getting them to play with either the people or other dogs. Our dog comes home exhausted and passes out on the drive home. I cannot say how worth it that is for us. We only take her MWF’s because she gets so much out of it she doesn’t need it daily.
Pro: The rooms at petsmart are tiny, so not a lot of room for dogs to run around. These areas are much larger and provide a lot more movement for the dogs!
Pro: The staff is professional, helpful and great with the dogs. My dog gets so excited with them.
Pro: The staff will reinforce your training if you work with them on it.
Pro: There is an animal behaviorist on staff to make sure they play well and are making good decisions for the dogs.
Pro: They actually take the dogs outside to go to the bathroom, so I don’t feel like we have to go through potty training everytime our dog stays overnight and gets used to messing in her area.
Con: Somewhat pricey (but what about owning a dog is cheap?) this place is about $ 10 more per visit than petsmart. That changes as you get their monthly visit plans. The boarding however is about equivalent to price, and therefore is always worth it. I was a little skeptical of the price when we first went there, but after seeing how our dog was when we came home, we managed to budget for it.
Con: I wish there was some way to check up on them. Webcams or something for when we travel.
Then just another random fact. Although we have gotten used to it, the first few times really freaked us out; they let your dog off leash to come greet you in the lobby. Our dog is a major runner and will bolt off to never be seen again if you give her a chance. And without a double lock door to see her bolting at the lobby with me in it with no leash was really freaky the first few times. But the staff is always right behind her and all she cares about is running to me anyway. Just a warning for the over protective dog parents out there so they don’t get shocked (like me).
Overall this place is great! Come here so they get enough dogs to stay open!!! We need better dog accommodations rather than ones that throw your dogs in kennels for a 2 hour «nap» midday!!!

My husband and I have been taking our two little dogs here for the past few weeks and have nothing but great things to say! We had been using another doggie daycare in the area for nearly 2 years but they recently came under new management and the quality of service has declined. What also prompted our search for a new playplace for our dogs was the adoption of our second dog who was initially fearful of new people and dogs. We wanted to get him involved slowly in doggie daycare in the hopes that he would see that new people and dogs can be fun and not scary :). The staff at Healthy Hound are just wonderful. Andwered every question I had and even let me watch the dogs interact from a high window in their building which did much to alleviate my worries about my dog. Both dogs just LOVE going over there now and trot right back to the play area! It is very clean and I can’t say how wonderful it is to pick the dogs up and not have them covered in «daycare smell.» It also appeared to me to be a much calmer environment than at other doggie daycares I have been to. Of course there is some barking and running (definitely ok!) but the staff and the environment fosters a very calm and comfortable place for doggies to play. I really can’t recommend it enough — take your dogs here! :)

This place is simply amazing! We just bought a golden retriever puppy, and needed care for him almost right away. I found this place on google, called, made a trip over and I was seriously impressed! I’ve never gone anywhere else, so I have nothing to say about other places, but it doesn’t matter, because my dog will only ever be going to HHP. This place is big, the staff is highly interactive, there is no dog poop and pee all over, it smells nice, and my little doggy is so exhausted when I pick him up that he falls asleep before we get out of the parking lot. The prices are very reasonable. I just can’t say enough good things about this place. Bring your hound here, neither you nor your pooch will be disappointed.

I’m genuinely happy to write a review about the Healthy Hound Playground. Received a recommendation from a friend to bring my dog here for daycare and boarding. First off the staff makes you and your pet welcomed right away. They are knowledgeable and you can tell they genuinely are looking out for your dogs best interest. The facility is clean, inviting, and well designed. Spacious cages for each dog, and they even have a «penthouse» for multiple family dogs. The activities area is large enough for many dogs to run around all day or just relax on one of their dog cots.
Depending on the package and/​or extras you wish to include this place is fairly priced as well. From reading up on many boarding/​daycare facilities, many places seemed expensive and your dog would come back with an extremely awful smell. This simply wasn’t the case. Another great touch that was much appreciated was the owner would send us pictures of our dog playing, running, relaxing, throughout the weekend.
We are absolutely thrilled to have come across this place as we are looking to schedule more getaways now that we have a place that we can fully trust. Thanks again Healthy Hound!

We took our dachshunds to Healthy Hound Playground after receiving a flyer in the mail. We’d moved away from our previous rockin’ doggie daycare the year before and had not yet found an adequate replacement in the area. (Sorry, Old Town Pet Resort, but you’re a little ridiculous.) I spoke to a staff member on the phone before bringing the dogs in and was very impressed by the amount of information he shared and the type of questions he asked about our dogs.
The pups and I arrived on a Saturday morning with our paperwork filled out. Two of us — you can probably guess which — were immediately taken to go play (and have a quick evaluation) — while I got a tour of the facility. The employees I encountered seemed engaged and were all clearly dog lovers.
This is a great place with a very clever set up. The space can be divided up several different ways, determined by the number and type of dogs at HHP. There is a double — maybe even triple — wall set up that allows the huge glass windows to be open and let fresh air in when the weather cooperates. The dogs get fresh air all day, in addition to their walks outside.
The owners of HHP have invested a lot of money in this facility to make sure it has the best of everything. The kennels are roomy, private, and look very comfy with raised dog beds, noise canceling roofs, and heavily padded floors.
The facility has a ‘mezzanine’ feature that allows a dog’s people to observe their dogs from the 2^nd level without being seen or heard. It’s a great way to observe your dog without influencing his or her behavior. I was able to watch our dachshunds integrate into the pack.
I picked up the dogs at the end of the day and they were happily exhausted. They clearly had a great time. I’ll be bringing them back soon. I appreciate that someone is on site ²⁴⁄₇ and that their pickup/​dropoff hours at 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. Now if they install a camera so you can watch your dog from afar… Well, that’d be awesome.

I love this place! I have been bringing my lab mix here for the past couple of months and she loves it as much as me! The open spaces allow her to run with her «pack» all day long (they don’t keep the dogs locked in crates or small cubicles all day) and she gets regular outside visits throughout the day. This place is clean and the dogs are kept in control by knowledgable and loving staff members. It is evident that the staff love their jobs too and have fun playing with the dogs. I get pictures sent to me during the day, and my dog comes home happy and blissfully tired. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for quality and affordability.
