Fung Ming Restaurant

I’m from Chicago moved here 4yrs ago. I’m a very picky eater since having always living in Chicago and always having GREAT food. Love this restaurant great food and reasonable priced

Amazing food, awesome service and great prices! Great atmosphere and fast service. My new favorite restaurant. I hope to eat there all the time! I will recommend Fung Ming to all my friends.

When it comes to food, they beat the competition. The service might not be the best, but that’s only because the owner doesn’t have as much help as he used to. Nonetheless, once you’ve got his attention, he’s friendly and, most important of all, he’s a great cook.
It’s very easy to put aside the cons this place has. Yes, it’s not in its best shape, and yes, you might not be served right away, but I’m sure there’s no other place in Sterling where you can get the best bang for your buck as you would here. If you want proof, go during lunch because their lunch menu prices are unbeatable, especially if you take into consideration that the food here tastes better than in all other restaurants in the area.
Now that I’m no longer in Sterling, I miss the days in which I could go to Fung Ming more often. This place *is* legit, and I’ll tell you all a little secret: They do have a TV. Though the TV is mostly there for the owner, I must confess that in more than one occasion, I’ve sat down at one of the tables closer to the TV to watch some of the movies or shows he leaves on, and even though I only know five sentences in Chinese, I still find the movies entertaining. And if you’re not into funny action films in foreign languages, you haven’t wasted your time reading this far. I have something very important to tell you: Get the crab rangoon.
What’s that? You can’t eat cheese? You’re allergic to food? I’ve got a solution: mail it to me. Problem solved.

I have been going here for years with my family and we absolutely love it. The place could use a little fixing up. But overall the service is very friendly and the forgoing is always great so that is enough to keep me coming back. And make sure to order an egg roll. Literally the best I have ever had.

Waiting to rate the stars until after the meal. But so far…-1. I came in excited that the food here is «legit» but the service is WOW! I stood up front waiting to be seated for 5 minutes while another couple sat there for god only knows how long. There was a family eating (6) and a couple a well. That was it! The lady waiting actually went down a hallway by the bathrooms shouting «hello» and knocking on all doors. Finally on her way back, a little oriental man pops out and tells her he’ll be right out. A few minutes later he comes out with their order (to go apparently) and tells me to sit anywhere I want and that he’ll be a few minutes. No menu, water, drink order… nothing. Still don’t see anyone else working. He comes out a few minutes later and brings me a menu. Then tells me he’ll be a few minutes. He comes back again and asks me what I want. Just like that too. «What do you want?» He was pleasant and smiling but that’s about it. I ask for hot tea and place my order: sweat and sour pork special which includes bbq pork wonton soup, bbq ribs and bbq pork fried rice. also i ordered an egg roll. He comes back in a few minutes asking what I want to drink. HOT TEA. Still no water. Lets see how the food is. To be continued…
Ok, first course, wonton soup. Thought it had plenty of pepper in it but it turns out it was bits of burnt pork. I mean burnt. I had a large nugget at the bottom of completely burnt pork.
2^nd course. Got my dinner before egg roll. The special had the rice, s&s pork and BBQ ribs on one dish. He quickly ran back and brought out my egg roll. I found more burnt pork with the ribs. The pork fried rice was actually chicken and it was very light in color. The s&s pork and egg roll were champs though. Even the fried rice had good flavor just needed a little more soy sauce.
I will say, even with the burnt pork, the food was decent. Egg roll was great. Not sure why there was only the one guy but apparently he was owner, host, waiter, cook and busboy all in one. And the whole time he had a smile on his face and was pretty funny to watch run the whole show. I will try it again some other time I am in town. But for now 3 stars only. And that might be a little generous.

I enjoyed my first visit here today. The service was friendly and not overbearing. The food was quickly prepared and nicely done. Prices are reasonable and the place is clean. A nice place to read over lunch break. There was at least one other lone reader enjoying the food while I was there.

Best Chinese food ever. The benchmark to which I judge all other Chinese food restaurants. Been in business for thirty years — this place is legit! I come home once a year and I make sure I get food from Fung Ming. Delicious!
