The Pantry Restaurant

After searching Unilocal for a yummy diner in the Sterling Heights area, The Pantry is where my friend and I ended up. I ordered the Potato Pancakes, and on the outside they looked delicious. When I took a bite, they were a bit bland and seemed raw in the middle, with a strange gasoline (?) aftertaste. I brushed it off and ordered a chicken salad sandwich with mozzarella, which came on pita bread.
Unfortunately, the sandwich also had the strange gassy taste. I thought that maybe it could be the type of stove they use, or that they need to clean the pans and/​or stoves. I ended up just taking bites of my friend’s delicious chocolate chip Belgian waffle, which was impeccable. When/​if I return, I will definitely try the breakfast food… but staying far away from the lunch and dinner items.

The cheesecake crepes were pretty good, but the sandwich my husband had was pretty average.

A nice and affordable breakfast place! Try the Mike Egg Basket or the fresh strawberry crapes or Garden Delight.

Know before you read this that I’m a long time frequent customer of The Pantry. I’ve always loved the food. This review is strictly for the experience I had today. A negative one, for the first time. The food was delicious as always, they’re always top notch there. However, you should probably teach your rude ass hostess that it’s both creepy and unsanitary to walk by a co-worker’s husband and stick her finger in his ear. Also it’s awkward for your customer who is sitting next to him as he says «That was weird. I don’t even know her that well.» Oh, and it’s also embarassing as a patron to have that same hostess say to you «Oh you can push that table out if you need to» as you’re sitting. Thanks for that friendly reminder that I’m fat. Star employee of the day! This one employee was enough to make me take my time coming back. Maybe she’ll be gone by my next visit…

Excellent place for breakfast or brunch! The omelettes are very good and the pancakes are even better! Our server Ashley was great! There was a line to get in but well worth the wait. Have dined here many times over the years and have never been disappointed.

I bookmarked The Pantry more than a year ago, but had forgotten about it. I’m hardly ever in the area. That proved to be a mistake because I after having breakfast there yesterday, The Pantry is clearly a spot not to miss if you love breakfast fare, which I do.
My breakfast was so yummy. It reminded me of country breakfast’s I had as a child on vacation in the South. I am not a major fan of eggs unless they are cooked just right; these were the best I’ve had… so creamy and tasty.
My meal choices were a pecan waffle, scrambled eggs w/​cheese, smoked sausage and fresh fruit; all ala carte therefore my bill was $ 18.
There are several menu items to choose from, all moderately priced. The staff is friendly.
The Pantry is located in a strip mall, with lots of parking.

What a little gem. The Texas FlapJacks won me over… twice in one sitting. The price is half of The Pancake House and the service is outstanding. I’ll be back:)

Hate to say it, but their house special oven-​baked pancakes aren’t that special. Sure, they are good, but so is every pancake ever. There is nothing special about the taste, they just are simple pancakes that are huge and cooked differently. Their fruit surprise also consists of pie filling.
Loads of options and everything I’ve had is good. Nothing great to put them over the top, though. With all of the options, their prices are a bit high for a breakfast joint. But service is good. Would be higher, but the pancakes don’t taste as good as they look.

I’ll admit, I’ve only eaten one item from the menu. Eggs Benedict (I’m not counting the home fries and coffee). It’s rare to find an establishment that can make this dish correctly. The Pantry has mastered it. Beware of peak times, especially on the weekend. This place is small and popular. You WILL wait outside for a while if you try to have breakfast at 10 am on Saturday or Sunday. It’s clean. And, the service is consistently good in my experience.

The «Flapjacks» are why I go here but they have SO MANY other great breakfast treats… The Apple Pancake for example… generous portions great service… sometimes a line… that’s a good sign!!! Worth the wait!

Very unique breakfast joint where they bake there own omletes and pancakes. Definitely a must try if you are in the area. Only problem is the lines are pretty long and breakfast will cost about 10 bucks but definitely worth it.

I am always in the look for a good breakfast/​brunch place in Michigan. It is really hard to find a good place that has flavorful and unique breakfast. Now that I have been to this place three time, I think I can guarantee that the food and service at this place is excellent. I was never disappointed by my order.
Once you walk in, you are greeted by one of the staff and they will find you a table as soon as possible (it gets really busy here on the weekend). The staff is very friendly and everyone smiles. This place is a family owned and run business and you will see many pictures of the family members on the wall of the place. The place is very cozy as well; nothing fancy about the décor.
I have so far tried the bendict, Mick’s specialty, garden surprise (very cheesy if you are into that kind of stuff. Not recommended for a lactose intolerance people), waffle, blueberry pancakes, a few other things that I cannot recall. Oh and you will never run out of coffee here.
For the amount, quality, and uniqueness of the food; the prices are extremely reasonable. If they redecorate the place, they could easily increase the price by 50% and the place would still be as busy.
If you go to this place, GET THE BENEDICT! This is one of the best I had in my life. So much flavor in these little things. Your taste buds will dance once they touch the molecules of this amazing dish.

Yum yum and yum. Breakfast here is great. Although always busy but that’s because their food is really good.

The Pantry has always been a great place for my Husband and I to get breakfast/​brunch. We’ve come with a few friends at times. It’s definitely a staple in our community! It’s one of the few Mom and Pop places we know of in the area. Make sure to get there early or be prepared to wait, though. This restaurant deserves a bigger place, as so many people are always willing to wait in line for great customer service and great food!
What I appreciate most about this restaurant is that it’s a family restaurant and they’re very welcoming. I appreciate that they put different prayers before meals on the front of their menu. It’s always worth the wait and the food is just as amazing as the waitstaff.
I know my family and I will continue to come here!

Went here since I heard some good reviews and I wasnt dissapointed. I wish i would have known about this place a long time ago. Food was good, portion was good and they got real good OJ!

Easily my favorite breakfast and brunch spot. Anyone really into pancakes *must check out the Pantry. My go to item is the Mike’s Egg Basket, double ham and American cheese with Texas flapjacks.
Pros: pancakes/​crepes/​and other concoctions thereof (german pancake, horn of plenty) are in a class shared by few; other breakfast offerings like bacon, eggs, corned hash, ham and coffee are great as well. Sandwiches and fries are solid. Family owned and very friendly staff, lively crowd on weekends. Not sure why exactly, but their butter is different than most and is excellent.
Cons: the wait can be upwards of 20 minutes on weekends. It moves pretty good though. Might be a little noisy for some. Prices are reflective of the quality ingredients.

For me it was my first time going, but my family had been there countless times.
I waited about 20 minutes to get seated, but it was completely worth it.
I ordered the cherry crêpes with Canadian bacon. They gave me a side of whip cream which was nice so my breakfast didn’t drown once it melted. I ate about 1 ½ out of the 3 they game me. I had them the next day and they were still good.
I had a taste of the sweet potato pancakes and they are phenomenal.
Super nice service. Highly recommend.

Breakfasts can’t be beat. I always get the omelettes, one son (23) loves the apple pancakes and the other son (20) loves the pigs in a blanket. The food is over the top delicious, great service and the prices are reasonable. There is usually a line on Sundays so get there early. This week I got the omelette with all egg whites and it was just as amazing.

Must try their mike’s egg basket!!! The combination of potato and omelette is awesome. The service is great and fast! I highly recommend this place.

Looking for something sweet and filing? The apple pancake is the way to go! I ordered a side of fresh American fries to balance it out. The omelets are pretty basic but not horrible. Most of the omelets only have two ingredients one being cheese.
So far this is my first experience at this restaurant but they hit a home run on the pancakes. The lunch looks enticing, consisting of sandwiches and a few dinner entrees. This is a easy inexpensive stop if you’re in the area and if not the apple pancake is worth the trip!

As the 101^th review, I feel I should mention that The Pantry is a very special place to me. I first came to eat here in the third week of Decemeber in 2011, and since then it has been etched in as part of a beautiful thing in my own life.
Before I ate here, I’ve always wanted to have breakfast at a place that gave me good type of feels as soon as I entered, and that’s exactly how I felt when I came inside here. This might be odd to mention, but I really love the coffee mugs, they just give you a home like vibe.
I always ordered the very same thing when I go there, the chocolate chips Belgian waffle. It not only looks perfect, it tastes perfect too! Some other sides I have had is the American fries, the toast with jam, and fresh fruits, which always come in the right portion.

I tried The Pantry for the first time to see why everyone is obsessed with it. Their «lunch» food was okay. It wasn’t anything special. The focus is on the breakfast food. Their breakfast food is very delicious and it feels like they spend more time on it. Their crepes are the best. They have an item that’s not on the menu which is the Nutella Crepes and it’s perfect with every bite. If you’re a first timer, do not sit and wait for the waitress for an hour to pay her, because you have to take your receipt to the cash register upfront to pay.

Great food and service. Large portions. Family friendly. Really enjoyed the Apple Pancake. Mike’s egg basket needs to be highlighted here because we often find it very delicious. My husband also tried the blueberry pancakes and he was amazed by their excellent taste. Definitely a revisit when in the area.

I completely understand the ratings on this place now. Yum It’s a much larger building than I expected and I was very happy we got there early enough that there was no wait.
We were seated and promptly given water and coffee. It took us a minute to browse over the menu and decide, but *shocker* we went with the same thing we almost always order for breakfast. I had the 2 egg and bacon combo that came with potatoes and toast (there’s an option to have pancakes instead of potatoes fyi). My friend ordered the corned beef hash, bacon, and an english muffin.
The food came out promptly and everything was perfectly to order except the eggs were just a tiny bit more done that I like, but it’s a negligible detail. The bacon was thick, well cooked, and ample, and the potatoes had nice crispy bits. I didn’t even hear my man talk about his food like usual, instead I got a mixture of yummy noises.
I kept seeing dutch baby pancakes roll past me as well as some scrumptious looking omelettes. I’ll definitely be back, and for the price, this will probably need to be put in to the normal rotation!

Due to the cold Toast in Ferndale had their pipes burst, so on this fine Presidents Day it was off to The Pantry. Can’t lie, The Pantry does some solid breakfast. I hear the German style pancakes are the way to go as well as some of the other french toasts and such but I avoid all sweet breakfast in favor of savory.
Mikes Egg Basket: My friend ordered this, and he was kind enough to add on an egg basket so I could try one for myself. I’m a simple breakfast man, and this was a creative play on simplicity. Essentially an egg scrambled scooped into a potato skin just like you would get with an order of friend potato skins.
Oven Baked Omelette: I did a Build Your Own (BYO) omelette with mushroom, onion, bacon, and white brick cheese. Win! Wow talk about fluffy eggs and the perfect omelette. I’d love to see some more creative options in this form, but I get that simple + traditional over trendy + edgy is their style here. Get the white brick, hands down the best.
Biscuits and Gravy: No complaints, nothing bad and nothing out of this world. Solid buttermilk biscuit and some savory sausage gravy.
Breakfast Sausage links: These were tough and chewy, for sure I’ve had much better sausage links at any coney island.
Carry Franks and Cholula hot sauce, no sriracha. I was shocked how busy this place was for 9:45 on a Monday. Literally a line to the door.

After eating at The Pantry yesterday I came to realize I don’t believe I’ve ever done a review of this place.
The service is amazing. The waitresses ALWAYS hustle. It’s busy. This place is slam packed every time I go. That’s because it’s so good.
I’m not a big breakfast guy, but once in a while I want something good. This is definitely a go-​to place. The food is fresh and tasty. The menu has a great variety. The service is great.
I recommend this restaurant… it’s been there forever.

Unilocal removed my last review because they said I personally attacked the manager in my review, so here is my review with just the facts. I got a carryout order and…
THERE WAS GLASS IN MY OMELET.
The manager didn’t believe me.
The manager was rude.
The manager implied that it came from MY kitchen even though the food was eaten from the carryout containers and there was no broken glass in my house.
They are lucky I don’t sue them. I will never eat here again for fear of my health and safety. The manager denied the glass came from their restaurant despite the glass being baked in the middle of my omelet. I’m not trying to get get anything from these people but I need to warn people away from possibly getting hurt eating here.
The manager did send me a check to cover the food but she couldn’t even be bothered to spell my name right. Very unprofessional service and dangerous food.

Don’t ask me what I was doing in the ‘burbs of Sterling Heights but this is my raving, stand up on the couch, shout it from the roof tops, 5-​star review for The Pantry!
We arrived on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. I thought we were way early (by Toronto standards) but there was already a small line forming out the door. After a very short 20 min. wait, we were seated at a small table for 2.
I had already stalked their menu online so I knew what I was going to order — Horn Of Plenty ($ 8.50), the apple pancake ($ 8.25) and some coffees.
While we waited for our food, I browsed around the restaurant — the walls were decorated with family portraits and photos. Felt like being at grandma’s (or my in-​laws) house. Service was super friendly… we observed lots of returning customers and staff seemed to know everyone’s name.
My Horn of Plenty was a German pancake filled with fresh fruit and whipped cream. I don’t think I’ve ever had a German pancake before so I can only describe it as a lovechild created in a three-​way between a pancake, crêpe and funnel cake. The result was a birth of something way too delicious. And the fresh fruit in the middle was actually ripe, no stoney, tasteless melon pieces or over ripe mushy berries. Just perfect.
The apple pancake was a very generous portion of cinammon sweetness. It was hot, soft and on a cold winter Michigan day, I’d probably come in, order this and prompty stick my face in it. We did find it a tad too sweet to eat the whole thing so the ideal combo would be to order one of these and then a savoury dish to balance it all out.
Best brunch I’ve had in a very, very long time. I’m still dreaming of it.

Blueberry pancakes came with house made blueberry syrup that was delicious! Bacon was thick & savory. I had to refrain from ordering another breakfast after I was finished. Definitely want to try the sweet potato pancakes next. And the Mike’s egg basket…
