It wasn’t bad, but I also wasn’t impressed. I get the feeling that this is one of those establishments that has a good reputation in part because it’s just been around for a while. I had a burger, which was fairly generic. We also ordered a potato skin appetizer that, again, was fine but forgettable. There are better places in Staunton at this price point. 2.5 stars

We ate at the Depot several months ago and it was terrible. so much so that I sent a message to the manager. This evening friends got us to give it another try. Such a mistake. The prime rib was dry. I ordered med. and it was more on the med side. Service was not the best. We did not get rolls with our salad. I saw other tables with bread baskets so when our server brought us our meal I asked if there were certain meals that came with bread. — Her reply — and I quote«I don’t bring bread to the tables because people don’t eat it and I don’t like to waste food. She did not volunteer to bring us any bread. I had to ask her to bring us some, she brought a basket with one brown roll and one white one. What if both of us wanted white rolls. We asked for extra butter, none was brought. After the first time I said I would never go back, well I certainly made a mistake by giving it another chance. We will not be going back even if it was free. I would give less than one star if that was possible.

We were here 5 years ago and loved it so came back as soon as we got into town. The service was awesome and the food even better. We will be back again next year as soon as we get here.

Driving through the area and after reading all the other great reviews, we had to stop. Great food and friendly service! The wings were fantastic– smothered in this honey bourbon sauce– we asked for extra sauce to take home to try it on other food we loved it so much!

Disappointing. This is a great location and the servers are helpful and friendly. However, the menu is way overpriced and the shrimp was clearly not fresh, more like something you would get in the frozen aisle at your local grocery store. The pasta was cold and stuck together. Highlight was the crayons and playing tic-tac-toe on the paper at the tables!

Do NOTGOHERE! I got an Asian chicken salad and it was wilted lettuce, some rubbery steamed chicken and a disgusting soy sauce and watered down dressing. Thlikeeir was also a hair in it! My husband got a skillet and he said it had no flavor and tasted like burnt up metal. The spinach artichoke dip had an «off» taste too it also and was served with stale crackers. The staff is also rude. Don’t go here.

Watch out, the prices add up quickly, our waitress was a lil ditzy regarding menu items and food preparation, but the food was good and the portion sizes, ample. An app of battered, fried mushrooms were enough to be made a meal of. Steaming, fat shrooms with a thin crispy coating — so good, they didn’t need the side dipping sauces. My child inhaled his oozy, cheesy veggie sandwich. The veg side of the night — stir fried brussel sprouts, were fried perfectly. The outer leaves were crunchy without leaving a burnt taste and the mini cabbage nestled within, sweet and savory. Surprisingly, not to many restaurants succeed in turning their stir-fried brussel sprouts into something worth savoring. The only flaw was the bread aka baseball glove, keeping my nicely seasoned, tender rib eye in place. Oh, but this was soon forgotten when the homemade pecan pie, studded with chocolate chips — arrived to the table, with three forks.

We went here for dinner on a Thursday evening. i had the crabcake sandwich and my companion had the glazed salmon. the sandwich was good and there was plenty of crab to the crabcake. The salmon was properly cooked and tasty. The restaurant also had a broad selection of beers, including some of the local brews. the service was prompt, pleasant and efficient.

The burger special with bourbon bacon jam(oh yes) and the prime rib sandwich with chipotle queso were excellent. Fries were perfectly crisp and hot. The staff was friendly and efficient. Thoroughly enjoyed lunching at the Depot today. The perfect end to a day trip to Staunton.

The service was absolutely amazing! We got prime rib which was sadly flavor-less. That’s the only reason I couldn’t give 5 stars. Well. And the whole parking situation. Good luck finding somewhere to park. The chicken fingers platter was unbelievably GOOD. Who would think? They were light and fluffy and tasty.

We stopped in here during a leisurely drive back to MD from VA Tech. What a great find! We looked at the menu, thought about the options and then discussed with our very knowledgeable and helpful server — he helped us make some great choices! It was lunch time, and we weren’t ready for steaks, and I love a good salad, but couldn’t decide between a couple of options — at the suggestion of our server, I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad with the buffalo chicken tenders — great taste and lots of zesty flavor! My wife had the friend oysters(from the appetizer menu) and they were very juicy and tasty(we are pretty picky about our seafood, having both grown up near the water in MD). As we were finishing up, the skies opened up and it poured! We were trying to figure out how we were going to get back to our car without getting drenched and the server told us that there was an umbrella that had been left there months ago — we were welcome to use it(thank heavens)! I highly recommend the Depot Grille — the food and the people were wonderful!

I’ve been a fan of the Depot for years. The restaurant alone is worth the trip. It’s beautiful and comfortable at the same time. The food is always good and you get plenty of it! The prices are affordable and the staff is always accommodating.

Arrived at 8pm. Place was still busy and it took about 15 – 20 minutes for seating. Ordered a beer from the ornate bar while waiting. The bar is amazing and old. Pews in the front for waiting are cute and old. Seated in the add-on area which is surrounded with clear tarp, unfortunately it allows the smokers outside to have their smoke enter into the area. Calamari was great. Lightly breaded and not chewy. Dinner was a bust. They were out of prime rib, out of salmon and something else I cannot remember now. So hubsters was upset due to the fact that he wanted prime rib. Ordered fish and chips, dry rubbed ribs, fried shrimp platter and the chicken tender Parmesan. Fish and chips looked great and tasted wonderful, huge portion. The dry rubbed ribs were great, ordered with sauce on the side as well. The shrimp were good, the breading was light and the shrimp were huge but the breading outside was damp/cold as if the plate had been waiting for a while. But, the shrimp were excellent. Chicken tender parmesan was wonderful per my son, huge portion. Refills were done appropriately and the waitress was very nice. Good atmosphere, food was good.

Highly over rated. We ordered the sesame tuna, sesame tuna salad, cobb salad, the taste: bland. No need to eat here.

We really wanted to like this place! The location and idea of being in an old train station was great however unfortunately the good experience stopped there. Bar — the physical bar seemed interesting and if we went back, would likely sit there for a drink. We each had a glass of wine and appreciated that the list included a lot of Virginia wines. Food — Hubby had the full rack or ribs which were good. I had the Ahi Tuna Entrée which was so-so. Both entrees came with a Caesar salad which barely had any dressing on it. I chose mushrooms as my side and they were literally a can of stewed mushrooms. Ewww. Service — Honestly, if the service was better I think we could have gotten over the mediocre food experience. The hostess and server seemed nice enough but the waitress acted like she was serving 50 tables running around super rushed and crazed. She was also wearing yoga pants and a t-shirt, both of which were really dirty. She took our order and had barely left the table when a runner came back and threw our salads in front of us — very odd. She wasn’t a bad server, just needed more warmth and personality to make a mid-level restaurant feel nicer than an Applebees. Atmosphere — again, the idea of a train station is great but it was super dirty. Hubby was literally leaked on for most of the dinner by some water coming from the cieling/fan above. Likely won’t go back. :-(

I really have experience better than DPO. My family and I were very hungry when we came in and were thrilled to see how large the portions were. It’s a whole different story when we tasted the food, though… This place was a total let down. I feel badly because my cousins drove all of us to Staunton and paid for lunch. There were a lot of cool things in Staunton, but DPO was not one of them. The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because of the décor(used to be a train station, there is a semi-vintage phone with a cord at the entrance that my nephew loved playing with, and I liked how the restaurant displays some of the drawings the patrons leave on their paper table cloths) and the grilled mushrooms(side dish). Service was terribly slow and on a hot summer day, that really broke us down fast. We were seated on the other side of the restaurant… The non-AC portion. I’ll call it the add on, because it looks like it was built more recently as an addition. There was ONE metal fan for the entire dining area. It was right by us, but still, the heat was unbearable. On to the food: Everyone ordered their own entrée. We had a few Fish and Chips, a Crab Cake, a Portobello panini, and chicken tenders for the kids. BP ordered a Chicken burrito and I had one of the Fish and Chips. Both of our entrees were flavorless. How can a chicken burrito be tasteless, you ask? I don’t know, but DPO managed to make it very tasteless. Okay, I am exaggerating. The burrito did have taste… Only two tastes to be exact: Sour cream and black beans. There were at least four other ingredients in the burrito, but all it tasted like was sour cream and black beans. The burrito was huge and there was a lot of chicken, this did not help at all. BP did not enjoy it. My Fish and Chips were also tasteless. The batter was thick, but had not been seasoned same goes for the fish. I was told the fish was cod, and it was very nice looking, but it wasn’t seasoned, not even with salt. I wish I had some Old Bay :( My sister let me have a taste of her Portobello panini and I really enjoyed the first bite. I was a bit surprised by how my sister let me have the rest of her sandwich(again, it was huge), but then I realized why she did not like it anymore… After a few bites, the pesto becomes overwhelming. The panini bread was soaked in Pesto. It was quite oily, as well. The fries? Nothing to write home about. They would have been better with um… salt. My uncle, being the smart man he is(also my aunt, his wife asked him to ordered the mushrooms as his side instead of the fries. The mushroom were delightful! The were moist and full of flavor. I popped as many as I could in my mouth. Very juicy. We were so full(of bad food), but my cousin ordered a slice of chocolate cake to share. It was really good. Heavy on the chocolate, sweet, and the whipped cream served with it was very light. Another thing to add, we had to ask for re-fills constantly… In the hot, hot dining room! So a lesson learned was quantity does not reflect on quality.

I was visiting a friend, and he took me to a heap of fun local restaurants. This is one of them. I’m a pretty basic guy, so the decision for me was between the burger and buffalo burger. The buffalo burger was $ 2 more, but that’s not really an issue. At the suggestion of the waitress, I tried the buffalo burger. Wow … that burger was pure bliss! The layout of the restaurant is pretty charming as well. It has nooks and crannies and you can hear the trains go by! :-)
