A Mexican style deli that’s a little cramped, but nicely stocked. The old couple running the place are nice and take care of business pretty quick.

We were a group of 14, 2 trip leaders and 12 students from 7th-12th grade, from Vermont, who were in NYC for a school photography trip. We wanted to visit Staten Island and have a meal. Luckily we found Panaderia la Mixteca Poblana on Unilocal! It’s not a big place, just sat all of us at the counter and one table, but man can they cook! The tacos were wonderful, the salsas hot and complex. 12 very tired(and slightly cranky) kids were transformed. Very affordable to boot.

Local Mexican place, chill staff, good food. You’ll probably stick out if you’re not Mexican, but this is one of those ethnic places that was put here by the locals for the locals.

Incredible energy and food. Strangers offered us their seats. I’m from LA and these tacos still blew me away. Ended the night by signing happy birthday to another patron and was given a slice of the cake. I returned the next morning!

It’s not the fanciest neighborhood, and it’s not the cleanest restaurant, but the food is delicious and the prices are cheap! The tacos are okay, fresh and flavorful, the sopes are good, hearty and satisfying, but my favorite things on the menu are the gorditas. Holy cow these are huge, and amazing, especially the Chorizo! Crunchy and succulent, for a mere $ 3.75! Service can be a bit slow, since one guy does everything.

Excellent food, really nice staff & patrons. Only minuses include the fact that the cutlery they give out with the meals is plastic and really really flimsy. I could not really cut all the way through my dish. It also did take a little while to get the food but the place was being run by one guy by himself so I would totally cut him some slack. Otherwise — huge portions at appropriate pricing and absolutely delicious. Enjoy!

I’m giving this a 5 star rating because the food here is consistently fabulous. I’ve never had a less than incredibly delicious meal here and I’ve tried a lot of the menu. It’s authentic Mexican at its best and incredibly cheap for the portions. My only complaint is the use of disposable plates, cups, and utensils for everything. As someone with concerns for the environment I find it hard to eat here often because of the amount of plastic and styrofoam garbage created by each meal. I thought about taking the rating down one star for that but I don’t want to discourage anyone from coming here and supporting an incredible local business and also because the food is just that good.
