It’s not the worst Chinese food on the island, but it’s definitely not as good as the reviews say it is. I got General Tso’s chicken and the Garlic wontons. I saw a reviewer say they used high quality meat but I disagree. It’s white meat, but the texture puts me off and I ended up giving it to my brother. As for the wontons, they would be a lot better if there wasn’t so much garlic. I get that they’re garlic wontons, but there was just too much and it overpowered them. They were also quite soggy from being drowned in this sauce. At least my white rice was good? Overall, it’s not bad but it’s not good either. I usually order from Oriental Plaza but didn’t feel like waiting for delivery since I live near this place. Next time I’ll just wait. Oh and they’re also overpriced, 18 $ for General Tso’s combo and wontons — really? I wouldn’t mind if the food was good.

No other chinese restaurant compares to this one. And as long as i live in staten island this is where i will go. The food is EXCELLENT and fresh. The service is great. The only downfall is that they have raised their prices and i will probably not go as often as i normally would.

i lived in tottenville for 20 years, bit surprised to see the negative reviews about loon churn, so read most of the negatives, many of them complain about service and price, a couple complaint about the way the food was done. But didn’t even read a single review to complain about the quality of the meat. Duh that’s why they think it’s a bit pricy, in my book it’s cheap for the quality of the meat you get hands down this is the best quality meat i had for what i pay, for example the shrimp dish, this something everybody can understands, you get about at leaf 10 jumbo shrimps in an average container with very fresh crispy vegetables you pay between $ 12 to $ 14 where would you get a full meal with 10 jumbo shrimps for $ 13. i used the shrimp as an example because it’s easy to understand but their meats across the board is the same way, i used to eat the best sesame chicken, all crispy white chunks of meat. if you rather have the $ 9 sesame chicken that’s half disgusting chicken fat, this place is not for you. i can understand the owner is an older chinese lady, who is a little strict but her kids are wonderful people. or people writing negatives because the sweet and sour sauce is not to his taste. when it come to chinese food, quality meat is what counts because you don’t know what other chinese restaurants are using as meat to give you a full meal for $ 6.00 . As i said hands down this is the best chinese restaurants on the island when it comes to quality meats and vegetables, anything else, don’t matter, if i wait for 45 min for delivery .DUH it’s a busy place, most of tottenville understands that but these guys don’t write reviews, they are busy counting their own money.

Ordered tonight via . On the site, there are 2 coupons– one for a free 2 liter soda if you spend $ 35, and another for $ 5 off an order of $ 60. I had heard good things about the food, so I placed a $ 50 order and hit the coupon to get the free soda. The food comes and alas, no soda. I call the restaurant and explain that they forgot to deliver the soda with the order. She puts me on hold and I hear someone in the back yell«She didnt order a soda». The yeller gets on the phone and I explain that the coupon on their site throws in a free soda when you spend $ 35. The woman proceeds to ARGUE with me. First she says they arent on . I said– how did I order then? I didnt call you. Then she says there is no such coupon on the site. I say actually there are two coupons on your page. She continues to deny it, and refuses to send me the soda or give any kind of future credit. Horrible customer service. Losing a customer over a $ 3 bottle of soda is very silly. More silly than that, is having me Unilocal and tell everyone at work(who is close to their restaurant) my experience and have them stop ordering from there. Smart business is to send the soda out free of charge and not treat the customer like she’s lying. Worst case, Im a creepy liar and after spending $ 50 on food I didnt want to pay another $ 3 for soda. Best case, you saved your review. All in all their hype was better than the food. I would have given an honest food review either way. The food was ok. Their sesame chicken and chicken with garlic sauce did not hold a candle to my beloved Oriental Plaza on Richmond Avenue. The prices are Loon Chuan are also way to high for what it is. Bottom line– They lost numerous customers tonight for $ 3. Back to Oriental if they’ll have me. Sorry I strayed.

Love the food not the price. This is the most expensive place for Chinese food but it is delicious and higher quality than most places. Delivery time is insanely long so allow an hour for your food to come.

Should be the best Chinese food in this area. Tried a couple of other Chinese restaurants in this area and I can tell you this is the best. Friendly customer service, inexpensive lunch manu comes without soup.

This is a place where you just feel ripped off after going to… Way overpriced, smaller portions, and bad service. No offense, but in my book Chinese food is half a step up over fast food, its in the same category as ordering pizza. Why, would I go here, and pay 3x the price, for a dish I can order to my house for $ 6 for lunch from another Chinese place? Also bad service. I called in an order for pickup once on a sunday night. I was watching giants game and hoped to run in ad pick up the order at half time real quick. I got to the place, after they had plenty of time to prepare it. it was just 1 dish. The woman at the counter was on a personal phone call, and just ignored me for 10 minutes. then when she finally acknowledged me, she told me no such order was placed, and I can place the order now and wait. I wound up missing the whole 3rd quarter, like an idiot, to get ripped off on Chinese food and treated like a nuisance for giving them business.

I’d give between 3 and 4 stars. The décor is so dated that it’s kinda delightful in it’s own tacky way, like the hayday was in the early to mid 90’s and they never redecorated. The dinner special was reasonable for what you get, general tso’s was good, the fried rice was definitely lacking. I expect chinese restaurants to be a little pricey. I thought the staff was nice. If you want to sit down at a chinese restaurant, it will do.

People and décor inside are not welcoming. The Décor is very dated. The only good thing is the food. I had General Tso, It was tasty but a Lil too sweet. Btw They only use white meat. The fried rice is weak to say the least. $ 9 for lunch special no soup smaller portions than conventional wisdom dictates. You will wonder, What’s so special about the lunch specials. This is a mystery that might remain unsolved.

We just moved back to the Island from a 5 year hiatus and couldn’t find a decent Chinese food restaurant. We tried them last night and the food was great. So fresh and tasty unlike some others we have tried. The prices were a little expensive compared to other places. $ 11 for a combination dinner is a little crazy. I would have given 5 stars if the prices were a little lower. We will be back just not too often.

I’ve lived in the area for over 10 years and Loon Chuan is THEONLY Chinese food restaurant I order from. The food is consistently fresh and their service, both in house and delivery are second to none. Every item I have tasted has been stellar. And their prices are very reasonable.

Delicious! Fresh, tasty, authentic. Loon Chuan is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant. Their bean curd is wonderful. I’ve ordered takeout from Loon Chuan many times and have never been let down. Highly recommended!

This is my second time trying this place and I was disgusted by the food again. I ordered Shrimp Toast, CFR and Chicken w/Broccoli in a white sauce. The shrimp toast was fried way too much and it wasn’t even real shrimp but a shrimp paste. The fried rice was bland as was the chicken w/broccoli. NOFLAVOR at all Avoid this place …,

Went to dinner tonight and as always the food was awesome. We always look forward to eating out at our favorite Chinese place. My own advice… Get the paper chicken. We love it and it’s so hard to find on the island.

Having eaten here on multiple occasions for several years mostly due to work convenience I can honestly review, «I’ve had better.» Highly americanized Chinese food. You will not experience true authentic Szechwan or Cantonese here. Gooey gelatinous messy Shrimp with lobster sauce. The fried rice is blah. The hot & sour soup is a travesty and almost all broth as is the egg drop. $ 9 plus for lunch without soup or standard egg roll is horrendously over priced. They have the balls to charge extra for these standard lunch items along with white rice, Really? Brewed black tea is always weak. English isn’t spoken well here so you may have to point to get what you thought you ordered. No décor or music. Dated look & feel. Now the only saving grace is a big screen TV along with a full bar. Unfortunately the high priced theme continues with Mai Tai’s $ 8 a Chinese traditional cocktail is way over priced and embarrassingly poorly mixed as well as super weak. No, I’m not a fan.

I never got to taste the food, so this review is strictly based on service. I placed an order for delivery online and was quoted 40 minutes. 40 minutes later… nothing. That’s ok… It’s a holiday, they’re probably just really busy. Called 1 hour and 10 minutes later to check on my order. «It hasn’t left yet». Canceled.
