Came here during the Snowpocalypse as it was the only place open in New Dorp, turned out to be a blessing. Tried the Roast beef with Mutz and Gravy and it was excellent. Literally one of the best sandwiches ever. It is the only thing I have ever had from John’s but it is so good why try anything else.

Johns Deli doesn’t even need a review or anything BUT ill tell you a little about it anyway ! If you’re looking for that one Deli that never disappoints then you’ve hit jackpot. I’ve only been to the Staten Island location once but I’ve been to the Brooklyn location a million times in the last 20 years ago or so and since its owned by the same owner as Brooklyn and ran the same way, i can confidently tell you that it will become your favorite Deli from your first visit. From the Roast Beef with fresh mozzarella, sautéed onions and Au-jus(all made in house) to the shrimp parm(with large meaty shrimp) and pastrami to whatever cold cuts you want from domestic to imported. Also the meatballs, stuffed peppers, variety of rice and prosciutto balls and fried raviolis etc … Ofcourse they also have pastas and other dishes on the heating tables depending on what day you visit, its a different menu everyday but the one thing thats always there is the DELICIOUSNESS of whatever you’re going with. Pretty large size seating area for a deli, tvs and always a great conversation with whoever’s there BUT most of your time you’ll be busy stuffing your face with their HUGE Hero’s so probably wont have time to talk lol. Cant believe i didnt know they opened up a location here on the island till about a few months ago, located right next to Piece of Cake . Decent parking available in the area and like I mentioned it’s conveniently located right next to piece of cake so you can pick up food and dessert at the same time pretty much

Classic Staten Island Italian deli. Got the chicken parm on a roll and it was awesome.

Simply put, maybe the best hot roast beef sandwich anywhere. Not everything on the menu looked quite as appetizing, but that sandwich is just… so… good.

I wish the service was as good as their Roast Beef sandwich. People behind the counter always seem to be in a bad mood. Their phone etiquette could stand to improve too.

I went in wishing for a juicy pastrami sandwich but I was out of luck. They didn’t have any that day and so I got a riceball and that was a serious mistake. My companion got the mozzarella en carozza and that too was not good. I should have gone with their roast beef which is their claim to fame but I wasn’t in the mood for it. I wanted a gooey, saucy, riceball parm like I’ve had numerous times in Brooklyn. Instead I got a dry, flavorless, hard as a rock rice ball with virtually no meat in it. Let me say that I don’t want to live in a world where an Italian can make such a bad riceball. I have to believe that someone completely unfamiliar with Italian cuisine made that rice ball. It was just awful. The mozzarella sandwich my friend had was utterly flavorless even though it was drenched in sauce. Guy behind the counter had a puss on like someone owed him money. That being said, I’d give them one more chance; meaning I’d go and try their pastrami or their roastbeef because of the reviews. But a good deli shouldn’t just have a couple of things that are delicious. You should be able to order anything off their menu and be satisfied. C’mon, Staten Island if you want to compete with Brooklyn, you have to up your game. Whoever made that riceball needs to learn to cook!

worst johns deli I have ever been to. rude staff and slow service. I called for an order for pick up one day on my lunch break and when I went there to pick it up and was told they had nothing they needed to make my order and they meant to call me and tell me but forgot to. I wasted my lunch break and didn’t even get my food. they are consistently rude to customers and the food isn’t worth it. bacon is always under cooked, the sandwiches are always a sloppy mess. they have lost my business. not even worth a star but I can’t post the review without a rating, so here’s your one star. one too many.

Fantastic deli! Had their roast beef, mozzarella with gravy and it hit the spot! My wife had the«Godfather» and she loved it! Even though it’s not overly close to home I’ll gladly come back!

Foods good. Staff is hit or miss. Tables are dirty a lot. Food is a little on the pricey side.

I don’t know what is the original or what isn’t. Point being is that I just really wanted a sandwich nearby and Ariemma’s was closed so I went to John’s Deli after all the reviews about the roast beef sandwich. Well, what really convinced me was the picture of the sandwich. Mmmm… looks so gooddd! Actually it was really good! The gravy was almost the consistency of a thick syrup, which was really weird, but it was really good cause it was a bit sweet. The meat was yummy and you can never go wrong with peppers and onions. The bread is delicioussss! However, I came with another person and nothing else on the menu appealed to us except for the pastrami sandwich, but that’s only on Mondays… so maybe if you’re really craving roast beef or something. We did have a plain riceball with cheese… don’t get it. Stick with the sandwich.

Great food, especially Fridays, the half shrimp and calamari parm is amazing, good seating, and fair pricing. Definitely recommend!!!

I have been eating at the original Johns in Brooklyn for over 20 years. And it is 5 plus stars. This location is not the same I went twice once I had the standard RB special the gravy was way too sweet more like a syrup and a small portion of meat. The second time I had Sausage & Peppers it tasted old very dry. It is a really nice place and comfortable. but in my opinion not the original. ciao–

Best Roast Beef sandwiches! They were only located down in Brooklyn but now they expanded and I love that! There pretty far from my home but when I go down that way I try to enjoy a nice hot roast beef. The only downfall is that parking sucks terrible cause its a busy local muni-meter street parking but if you find a spot then its all good. The sandwich is pretty big and with the melted mozzarella cheese its sooooo good! You can add more ingredients but I’m just a easy plain Jane type. You must try if you haven’t yet especially if your local.

Fairly new deli on New Dorp Lane getting a lot of attention in the neighborhood. The space was previously the French Tart so it has a lot to live up to! Sandwiches are decent, I’d say great but the last time I ordered mozzarella and prosciutto the meat was so chewy it was nearly inedible. I’d certainly stick to their tasty staple sandwich, the hot roast beef with gravy. Some of the salads and sides looked delicious while others looked like they had been sitting out all day. Overall, John’s Deli is worth at least one trip!
