Horrible customer service!!! Bought a deal from Unilocal that they wouldn’t take because it was during the day and not dinner time. No where in the deal does it say«dinner only». The place didn’t even know they had a promotion going on because the waitress said she never seen it and had to call the owner. Then magically the owner was in the kitchen and«didn’t speak any English» when asked to come out. Lol. What a joke. Not to mention, sushi was okay, nothing special for the price. Basically never going back, simply because of how we got treated.

My daughter and I went with the Groupon and it was fabulous. and fresh. We had both the Miso Soup and the Tom thumb? soup with shrimp and they were excellent and we had both the Ginger salad and the Avocado salad and they were super fresh and tasty then we had the tempura shrimp roll and the spicy shrimp roll and the specialty roll with shrimp with lobster and it was phenomenal. Best on Staten Island. Hands down. For dessert, we had the chocolate lava soufflé amazing. Not too big to get you sick, mini size with the fresh whipped cream on the side which we split. Loved it so much. So clean and peaceful except our luck we had this obnoxious Jewish woman sitting next to us talking about her ugly medical history in a really loud voice. We never saw anybody so obnoxious she was sitting with two little kids her kids and at the end when we were ready to leave, she yells SELFIE and squeezes her two hapless kids into some sort of a picture She took the cake for the most clueless person I ever met. It was 17 degrees out today and she had a loose tank top on revealing her bra. WTF? anyway the restaurant was the best we have ever had on Staten Island. Enjoy. Highly recommend.

Just had the Spicy Tuna Tacos. They were excellent. The cracker was thin and crispy. The best part was that you could bite into it and it didn’t fall apart. We always order from here and have never been disappointed!

One of my favorite sushi places on the Island. I’ve been here several times for lunch and once for dinner, and it’s never too packed that I can’t get a table. The menu has a good selection of entrees and great lunch specials; I usually go with the three course lunch special including two rolls, all for $ 7. I haven’t had any house special rolls but they look great and will be sure to try them next time– though I wish more of them were raw and didn’t have tempura. Cucumber is one place where it’s not a big deal to order with brown rice. They use black rice and it’s great! Definitely different from other places on SI.

I love the sushi here and usually the see is is amazing. I’ve been ordering from this place online for over 2 years. I ordered yesterday online, and it took me nearly 2 hours to receive my food. I called an hour after, and they told me the order was out on delivery. I knew that it wasn’t when it showed up 45 minutes after that. I checked my bank account and they had taken the money out for the order, but hadn’t made it when I called. They also didn’t send an a stain credit card receipt with my delivery so I had to sign a regular register receipt. I work in the service industry, so I understand what it’s like when it’s a peak hour or it’s busy. This was after lunch and before dinner. It was clearly a mistake but I feel they should’ve at the very least apologized for the order taking so long. I gave them 3 stars because the food was really good, and that is always consistent. I will most likely still order from here, but it might not be my first choice next time.

Great place for a date or for take-out. The brown rice here is absolutely amazing. Not too oily and it comes with ginger sauce to drizzle on. The fried banana with ice cream is also super light and delicious after a filling sushi dinner

I am a regular customer at Cucumber. I frequently order to my house on a regular basis. I called there last week and the woman who answered was horribly nasty and rude to me and explained they don’t deliver to my side of the island… Which is false because I’ve ordered several times. She eventually hung up on me. I had to drive all the way there to get my food…& to my surprise — the restaurant was empty! You would think after how nasty she was that shed at least be busy. The sushi here is good but service is terrible.

Love their sushi. Just hate when they mess up order because that don’t understand English… God forbid you order a side of brown rice & get it. then they get all mad when you ask for it & offer to pay extra. smh

I am a regular in this place, and a big fan! I never had a problem with freshness, everything was always delicious. I have ordered a number of times for delivery as well. The prices are reasonable and the eat-in presentation is very artful. My favorite is the special Caribbean Roll. I order it every time. The lunch special is a great deal too! Sometimes the service is a tad slow, but that’s not a deal breaker. The décor is pretty cool, too!

After seeing that they won for best sushi place on the island I had to try it out for myself, since I am a big foodie. My daughter and I went here for a late lunch for the first time yesterday and wow was I impressed. Beautiful modern feel with the décor and the food was amazing. We had the vegetable gyoza soup, broth was so yummy, great on a cold winter day. Then we both had the kani salad, served with delicious crunch and flavors were popping. Then we tryed the rolls. My roll was a rock shrimp with kani and lobster, served on a pretty plate with a flower made out of accompanied sauce. So yummy. Our waiter was very nice and polite… I just love sushi and this place is definitely number one. Will be ordering delivery and going back real soon. Only bad thing is parking is a headache, very small parking lot, must find street parking

First time here last night and I picked up my order to go. Very small and awkward parking lot, definitely recommend parking on a side street or Hylan, if possible. It’s very cute inside. I ordered the dragon balls: 3 large spicy kani rolled in avocado that comes with a dipping sauce that was delicious. I’m not quite sure what it is, I thought I tasted peanut? I could be wrong. I also ordered spicy tuna roll that was good. Both cane to $ 17 and change but they were so good! It’s not in my neck of the woods but I definitely plan on ordering again!

If I had one word to sum up cucumber on hylan, it would be(aside from delicious): consistent. The bf and I come here on a regular basis and it’s always been a great experience. Sushi is always fresh and tastes wonderful. My favorite appetizers to get are the dragon balls, dumplings and rock shrimp. They have really tasty entrees as well, particularly the pad tai and balsamic chicken dishes. Can’t say I’ve had a bad meal here and it really surprises me that others have. Perhaps I always catch them on a good day?(Mind you, I have food from here three or four times a month at least). The customer service is excellent as well. Numerous times, we have been given a free appetizer or dessert, just out of appreciation for our business. The wait staff has also been consistently attentive and pleasant. These things alone make this place stand out from the other sushi restaurants on the island! Have a meal at cucumber and you shouldn’t be disappointed!

So I came here because I saw that they won the best sushi award from and thought I’d give them a try as I’d never been here. SADTOSAY … SILIVE lied and I will no longer be trusting the reviews from your website. How is this place even still open? I guess every person that has reviewed this restaurant has been hella lucky. I came for lunch with a couple of my girlfriends, I guess you can call it brunch since it was our first meal of the day. Let’s just say it was hell from the get-go. The service was horrible, and the wait time for our food was ridiculous! When the food came we chowed down because we were starving and at that moment it was OK … until we got home! WEGOTFOODPOISONINGHERE, WHICHMEANSTHEIRSUSHIISNOTFRESHATALL. there are so many better options in staten island(Takayama Sushi Lounge, Ocean Sushi). SAVEYOURSELFTHETROUBLEOFGOINGTHROUGHHELL !

I’ve been here twice so far and had a good meal both times. The place is small, but it wasn’t crowded either time, so getting a table was not an issue. On my recent visit, we tried the Dragon Balls, which is spicy kani and avocado with a spicy mayo and it was delicious! Probably my favorite dish from Cucumber. It’s a serving of 3 balls and definitely filling. I’ve also tried the chicken pad thai, the sushi sandwich, crispy duck appetizer and pork dumplings. The crispy duck was more fatty than crispy, but tasty all the same. Their hot teas are good and served in your own personal tea kettle, but if you like iced tea, get the thai iced tea! Delicious! The parking lot is tight, so street parking is probably the way to go. This will probably become a regular take-out place for me.

My go to spot for lunch when I’m at work. I’ve only gotten take out from this place so I can’t say much about the service, but the interior design of the restaurant is very unique. I wouldn’t mind dining in sometime, but because I work right across the street, I don’t see myself doing that anytime soon. Now this place doesn’t have the best sushi in the world, but it’s lunch special provides great value. They have multiple choices(5 course, 2 sushi roll, 3 sushi roll) all at a great price. I usually get the two sushi roll lunch special(spicy salmon and spicy tuna) and it comes with a small salad and miso soup. The salad dressing is delicious. Oh and all that is less than 8 bucks. If you’re looking for the finest sushi in NYC, than this place isn’t for you. But if you’re looking for a good value lunch and above average sushi, than give this place a shot!

The sushi was just a ok to me… however the service on the other hand wasn’t. I came here for dinner Instead it felt like a waste of my time… I waited about an hour to be waited on and my food to come out… It was defiantly a waste of time should of just ate somewhere else… The food was some what over priced for mediocre food… it wasn’t even that great… It was just ok… The fish was fresh and flavorfully … I ordered two salads… two soups… two rolls and a special roll… that all came out to filthy eight bucks… It was just a mini mom and pop restaurant located in Staten Island … area is small… Seatings are too close together… I dislike siting to close to random strangers… feels really uncomfortable… while I was dining here the whole time I heard every conversations from each angle… One thing is dislike is a cramped restaurant! Even the parking lot was tiny! Ughhh

Came here on a groupon deal, and was very surprised by the nice vibe and setup of the small restaurant. The sushi we ordered was very good, the avocado salad was very fresh tasting, although the spicy soup was too spicy! All of the special rolls looked really good, and I will definitely be heading back here to see how I like the rest of the menu.

Went to check out new location. Sushi and sashimi is fresh, funky bright décor — but it’s just OK, nothing outstanding. Note: no alcohol is served here.
