College of Staten Island

I remember when the veterans center used to be able to assist veterans. Compared to the way things used to be at this college for veterans my current experience at this institution blows.

This is an update to my last post, finally received degree!!! I called and got a woman on the phone who couldn’t believe it wasn’t sent, she offered to mail it but unfortunately I didn’t fully trust the school. So a short ride and a bridge toll we now have a beautiful piece of paper confirming the Bachelor of Science. Thank you CSI

Wish I could love this school because I used to love school until I came here. Im never happy anymore. Everytime i need something and need help, they take forever or never help me.

Pitiful school, the worse professors I’ve ever had. This school has lowered their standards for hiring faculty. The place reeks of bad «Staten Island Attitude». I will not be finishing my degree here.

I LOVE this college. I actually applied here because my ex got his Masters in Political Science from here and he recommended it. He transfered to Hunter for a semester because like myself it was closer to him but transfered back after prefering College of Staten Island. The great thing about this college is the small class sizes compared to most CUNY schools that have 150 to 200 or 1,000 to 2,000 students in a class. College of Staten Island has in most classes around 40. You will take a few classes were there will be around 100 people in the class but in these classes it really doesn’t affect your learning. Also I love the campus and I am part of the Emerging Leaders Program. It is an awesome program.
The bad thing about this school is if you don’t live in Staten Island the traveling is a pain. The ferry shuttle helps but for me it is still a 2 and half hour commute each way. Also as with all colleges some of the professors really stink but most are good.

Great campus! You can walk around or drive. Or even take their buss service if needed! It’s got dorms and many areas to play your preferred out door sport! The campus is well securities with officers at all gates and I never had a bad experience she. Going in to pick up a friend! Don’t know how great the professors are.

The College of Staten Islands Unethical nursing program.
Be aware that the Nursing faculty makes decisions not based on the students interest. When I was told I failed the lecture class I was shocked. I was told many times from staff and students that the nursing program was hard and differcult. I have received many honor awards, I am a Phi Beta Kappa, been on the Deans list, and have received leadership awards and held office as president of The Law Society. I attended other colleges and major universities and graduated with honors.
At The College of Staten Island my final grade was an A in the nursing lab and my clinicals. I was never absent or late to lecture class and my work was turned in on a timely manner complete. I was devasted when I learned my final grade. Furthermore, I was insulted by my lecture teacher who told me I would make a good teacher and began to slight me. I went home and began to investigates what went wrong. While looking through all the books and material at home, I discovered within a nursing book given to me by a fellow student that it contained some of the finals questions and answers. This book contained some of the exact qestions and answers on the final exam. How can that be? This book wasnt part of the course outline? Why did my teacher copy questions from a book bought off of
, I figured if half the class had accessed to this book and they got 4 or 5 questions from this book on the exam, that would be unfair to me and I would surely fail. As I did fail the lecture class. I immediately asked to speak to my teacher and was told she was gone for the semester. I still went up to the school looking for a counselor.
To my surprise outside my teachers office was a line of students and my teacher inside. I was lied to, I felt betrayed and I was even more upset now. I waited on line to speak to my lecture teacher (ADJUNCT) and when I was called I proceeded to tell her what happened. She told me I was being dogmatic. I thought I was being astute. I told her that it is unethical that the other students had the questions and answers and all she said was, reapply. As a matter of fact, I spoke to other councilors, including the provost and the chairman of the nursing department. They seemed unconcerned about the other students having acess to the questions and answers that were on the final exam. The nursing department proceeded to tell me to reapply next semester. I did and I still wasnt called. Can you see were this is going? Why do I need to reapply? Why wasnt this investigated? I recently spoke with a nursing counselor from CSI. I had asked her and other nursing faculty to investigate this matter only to fall on deaf ears. I would not recommend this school to anyone. And I would never send my child to this school for nursing after seeing how they operate It is faculty biased not student oriented. As a result, I will not let CSI define who I am but I will not stand by and say nothing. I question what kind of nurses are they turning out?

Where do I begin with this place? lol I spent 6 years at the college of staten island, 4 as a student, 2 as an employee (with the public safety department). Let me say this, if every college in America were like CSI, or even half of every college, we would be absolutely doomed and have no hope for the next generation.
I left this college in 2012 as an employee, a lot of problems here, and I hated this college even when I worked there.
I graduated as a student on the Dean’s honor role in 2010, with a 4 year degree in business management. I have had a career for the past 2 years, I’m not your typical staten island college student who takes 6 years for a 4 yr degree with a 2.5 gpa.
STAFF: The staff here is ok, there are some really lousy instructors here, who would never be able to teach any where else. A lot of professors here, write a book, then assign it as reading material for their class… WHAT? isn’t that a conflict of interest? You write a book now force people to buy it, and guarantee yourself 30+ sales every semester atleast? There’s this 1 professor named George Stern, who is absolutely horrible, he is extremely condescending, he will constantly put you down and talk about what it’s like to be successful, when in reality, he was an only child who inherited wealth from his father. he wrote a crappy book, which looks like it was written by a 7 yr old, and now you have to buy it. his class is based on nothing, and he’ll give you a C or a D just to prove he’s too good for you.
As an employee of the college, I ran across an English professor named Mr.Conte. The idiot, who you pay to teach you, ran out of gas in his car on campus, so we drove him to the gas station to get a gallon of gas. The guy had tattoos all over the place and was talking about banging his former students, and was constantly cursing left and right. I’m a young guy, and yeah I can joke around and talk about girls and what not, but I felt like tellin the guy, «dude, your an English teacher! this is how you conduct yourself!». only at csi would a moron like this be hired to teach.
After I graduated, the career and scholarship center sucks big time. The guy made very small changes to my resume for me, and that was it. I was able to log on to CSI’s job search website, which never updates, has a total of 5 jobs, who don’t even check sent resumes. No help at all.
Registrar:
the registrar here, is AWFUL, and I lost my temper on them, and told them off, while I was in uniform as an employee. I got called for a city job, and was given a week to get my paper work together, and come in for processing. The city doesn’t give you time when your being processed for employment, and if you don’t get everything you need in time, it could slow down your process. I went to the registrar, in uniform, with my $ 7 for the transcript I needed, and explained this to them. Here I am, a former student, on the DEAN’S HONOR ROLE, (not some jerkoff staten island kid) and an employee, who is always very respectful to staff all around campus, I always give the registrar respect anytime they forget keys and need me to open a door for them. So I explained my situation to them, I wasn’t asking them to rearrange the office for me, I wasn’t asking for the transcript for free. Well let me back track, 1^st I got a number (you have to take a number and wait to be called to go in to registrar like the dmv) There was no 1 else waiting there, and the estimated wait time on the ticket said 30 seconds for my number to get called. they took a half hour to call me because they were sitting in office chit chatting. When I finally got called and explained I need a transcript, they claimed I have to print a form off and mail it in, and it will take 14 – 21 business days to get the transcript. I kept telling them I understand this, but I need the transcript by next week, I don’t have 14 days, I know you can go print it off for me, can you please help me out, a former student and fellow employee. They didn’t care, and didn’t want to help me, finally after arguing for 30 minutes and telling them they suck and are the worst registrar ever and this is why this college sucks, they went in the back, took 10 seconds to push a button and print my transcript.
The people who go to this college, are just completely disrespectful, and don’t act like college students, they act like morons. People block other in in the parking lot, students in the quiet sections of the library are loud and obnoxious and throw garbage all over the place.
I hate this college.

I attended the continue education program and finish the course. The teacher who taught the class was great and very helpful. The only major downside is they DON’T help you with job search or if you want help with your resume you have to PAY $ 125. Which I feel it’s not fair when I paid $ 1500 for one course. The school has a career and scholarship center which is ONLY for students not for Continue Ed. So like the staff at continue education told me «Good Luck».

There are many good things about this college as well as bad. Sometimes the bad just outweighs the good. I enjoy my professors here every single semester. They always take time to get to know the students such as your name. To me, this is very important. When I first joined the college it seemed as if the professors didn’t care so much to even know your name. This is a positive change that occurred here.
The campus itself is pretty especially on the fall days I love it. The gravel lots however can total your car. There are potholes the size of china all over. So beware ! Parking is horrendous here. Instead of building dorms which to me seems useless, they should have added another whole parking lot. Every single year CSI is slick and ups the parking. It was about $ 80 when I started its now $ 103. For parking the way it is, they have a lot of nerve.
Need help here? Ha! Good luck trying to get a straight answer. They will send you to 4 different buildings before you get an answer. They barely ever answer phones and want you to use the website more often. Sometimes technology isn’t up to par, so you need to speak with an actual human. I think everyone that works here is lazy. It’s almost as if they can’t be bothered. Again need an answer to a question, 4 buildings later you will have the answer.

A fair clean and organized campus.

The issue with the College of Staten Island is its lack of parking, and the places that have parking are riddled with pot holes. The Professors come from top universities both in the U. S and abroad. Their nursing program is one of the best and toughest around. Here you’ll receive a top notch education that doesn’t leave you with mountains of debt until you’re 35. Don’t let its location fool you, this a really great place to go!

Csi… I loved coming here for college. Beautiful campus, great professors and faculty staff. The buildings are fairly modern and good size class rooms. Great sports fields and nice spots to relax. They have regular and online classes as well as day/​evening and weekend classes. Parking can be a bit of a challenge on morning classes. Overall I love this college and campus, I’m happy to have attended.

It is a good college. Staff is not so helpful. They always tell me to go online. I can hardly get any service. It is somewhat difficult to make friends there, as some people seem to be in a rush. The campus is beautiful. Every season, I just love looking at this campus. Lots of nature and areas where there is silence so I can study in peace. Technology in the school seems to be somewhat dated. Some classes are dangerously over crowded. Food tastes great. Library is also very nice. They gym is great, although there always seems to be little children in the university gym, which makes it a little uncomfortable for me to swim and exercise in a place surrounded by kids, while I am the only adult.
Pros: Beautiful campus, great tasting food, quiet areas, and reliable transportation.
Cons: Rude staff, over tallied classes, slow computers, and no exclusive rec area.

A European friend is a professor there and is appalled by the quality of SOME students’ preparation and abilities. (Some students are better.)
