Smooth — like silky smooth — soft serve chocolate and vanilla ice cream that cannot be outdone. Believe me, I’ve tried. No ice cream in the country matches up to Carvel’s soft serve. If you try it, you’ll be craving it for the rest of your life — so God help you if you move to Indiana or some other such state(like I did in college) and you cannot get it. So, I’m going to take this one step further and say, don’t just try Carvel, but try the Carvel on Richmond Road. My mom and I are convinced that not all Carvels are created equal and that there must be something in the«machine» at this franchise that keeps the ice cream absolutely smooth, never mealy or coarse. So you can never go wrong getting the hot fudge sundae. If you’re up for something new, my favorite is vanilla ice cream with marshmallow sauce and colored sprinkles. Again, the marshmallow sauce covers your ice cream with the cool smoothness of a ferrari, mingling with your vanilla ice cream so you can’t tell the difference, unless you do a stick test on your spoon. Now, I think we all know that Carvel ice cream cakes are excellent, but just in case you didn’t — yeah, A plus. vanilla and chocolate ice cream divided by chocolate cookie/cake type crunchies. There is icing that is sweet and gives an extra kick to things… and they have that lovely cake gel to write messages on the top, unless you get a character themed/some other type of cake — which they also have in abundance. Yezzzz Carvel… this is one reason I always look forward to coming home to Staten Island.
