We had dinner on the Dine Out night in late April. We enjoyed the entrees but the service was disappointing. Not sure what happened but our waiter never came back to ask us about a possible dessert or even present us with the bill. We had to track down one of the waitresses to give us the bill after waiting for some time.

I was a bit disappointed with my experience here but I also can’t say it was horrible. I enjoyed that when ordering an entrée that you are given a soup, salad and desert with it. This allowed me to feel like I was given my money’s worth. I got the onion soup, it was ok. Not mind blowing. The salad was a salad. My entrée however was where my disappointment came in. I ordered the seafood combo Francesc style, and was given a big plate of mush. The presentation alone was enough to turn me off. The egg was just kind of thrown on top and was a bit tough. The sauce looked like boogers just poured over everything. When I ordered I expected the title to mean a plate of different seafood, what I was given was one shrimp which was pretty good but should have been more, 3 scallops which were undercooked and fishy. The filet of sole was nice and was pretty good. The sauce could use some work. The pasta was good and so was the tomato sauce on it. Best part of the meal was the cheesecake, it was awesome. The service was good, the place was pretty empty except for the rowdy bunch at the bar, if your looking for quiet fine dining I don’t think this is your place, if your looking for a decent filling meal for a good price then I’d say give it a try. Overall good experience but I don’t think I will be going back anytime soon.

Excellent food and I would recommend going. Parking is an issue but it’s well worth the walk. I’m from out of state and if you live around here your probably use to Parking problem.

Always have a good meal at Canlons. Jimmy Canlons always whips up good food at a decent price. Mussels with red sauce is the bomb. Also been to a few receptions there for special occasions and always a great spread. Worth a try.

I had my mom’s 75th bday lunch there and it was great. You get alot of food! It was delicious. Potato or black bean Soup, salad and meal! The ranch dressing was especially good. Eggplant rollatini appetizer was my favorite and the irish soda bread is yummy. The service was awesome and they made her a huge brownie sundae with candles. She was thrilled. Eddie gave her a lottery ticket and dropped by the check on us which was a nice touch. All in all, a wonderful dining experience and that is why it is one of my fave restaurants in Staten Island.

Dreadful. Absolutely dreadful. Nothing tasted fresh. The food tastes as bad as the décor looks. My dining companion said he tasted better soup out of the can. Truly the worst food I have had on Staten Island.

If I could give more than 5 stars here I would! Eddie and all of his staff at Canlon’s is amazing! A real neighborhood staple and always giving back to the community. The food is delicious! One of the few places on Staten Island where I can get my corned beef year round. The pasta portions are huge! There is nothing on this menu I would not recommend. I would highly suggest stopping by if you have never!

Have been here several times — the food has always been good. Tasty cuts of beef, and generous portions. The bread basket disappoints but skip that and order more food instead.

This place is awesome!!! Food is amazing– Ro on the bar rocks– Location is convenient A must is the pasta with sausage, garlic and broccoli rabe …could use some updating and maybe revamp the bar area, other than that-a new favorite spot Oh-Eddie — like other reviewers mentioned, — true gentleman!

On a bright Saturday Afternoon with my husband about to catch up with some college friends in Oakwood Heights, Staten Island, we stopped by Canlon’s Restaurant for a quick grub. Renowned and recommended by the locals, our expectations were high and did not disappoint. I had a classic Pastrami Reuben and my husband had a cheeseburger. I loved my Reuben(lean just how I asked). It was rich, delicious, and had a perfect balance with the sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Also, the fries were fresh and hot and you can tell didn’t come from a frozen bag. My husband enjoyed his burger saying it was very«fresh» and«filling»(his words not mine…). Overall we had a great meal here all topped with great service and a warm and lovely aroma/atmosphere. Thanks Canlon’s!!!

Great place with great service and food. Always a great place to eat. There’s a reason it’s been here for 30 years. Easy to get to by train at the Oakwood station.

Eddie is a gem! This place is like going to your family’s for Sunday dinner. This place has just about anything you can think of on the menu. The Freaky Eddie is an awesome sandwich, something that hits the spot for Sunday football. One of the few places that I love coming to with my family. Canlon’s is what a Staten Island restaurant should strive to be, having something for the whole family, with competent, friendly servers, and a very friendly owner that makes you feel like family. For dinner, try the Bayou Blues or the Pot Roast, two of my favorite dishes.

Well, it wasn’t terrible. . After reading all of the glowing reviews about this place, I’m sort of surprised about last night’s meal. I was there with my boyfriend and his son. We arrived about 8:30 or so, and the place was PACKED. We were greeted promptly and seated. Drink orders were taken and served. Except for the seltzer water where it should have been a sprite. Oops! Minor mistake easily fixed. No harm. They corrected the mistake quickly. I offer that for context only. That is a minor hiccup that could happen anywhere. The rest, is why I had to write the review: I ordered the side salad with my meal. I ordered it woth Italian dressing. What I was given, was a plate of lettuce, a couple of shreds of carrot, and maybe some red cabbage… and carafe oil and vinegar. Thats not a salad. Shoulda gotten the soup, I guess. For my meal, I got the Braised Lamb Shank over mashed potatoes. The meat was great. Tender and flavorful. I had no complaints on the potatoes or the gravy, either. It was fantastic. But the side of vegetables? What was that? Completely overcooked mush. Oh, and the green jello on the side was weird, but maybe that’s just me. So, as you can see, I value good produce. I know a lot of people who hate veggies… so if thats you, you probably won’t be disappointed. Everything else was very good, and clearly, this is a local favorite.

After seeing the owner on the Food Network’s «Chopped» show, I went here with some family that live in SI, and we have gone back a few times now. It’s a nice neighborhood place, and the owner walks around frequently to greet everyone. The menu is huge and has anything you could ever imagine, with lots of daily specials. It also seems like you could order something not listed on the menu! It’s definitely a great place for comfort foods, especially the pot roast. The dining room is cozy and the service has always been great.

Has been a favorite place to go for years. Family get together during the holidays as well as weekends for a good dinner. The owner is very friendly and knows how to put together a great menu and a friendly staff. My favorite menu item is the Crazy Eddie sandwich. Right next to the train, safe neighborhood, moderate prices. Never drank at the bar, but it is always full.

Great neighborhood restaurant. If you return a few times, you’ll begin to recognize the many regulars who patronize Canlon’s. The food is excellent, never had a bad meal here. Try ‘Eddie’s Ribs’ — they are so juicy & tender, you’ll leave wanting more! Shrimp Wellington is another favorite, absolutely delicious! Several good dessert choice on the menu — tried a sort of pancake soufflé, comes with a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream. Very tasty! Service is pleasant & efficient. The booths are a bit tight but not uncomfortable. You may request a table if that’s what you prefer.
