Wicked Oak is a relatively new winery on the Shenandoah Valley wine trail that has been on my radar for a little while now. Happily, this weekend a group of my friends and I were able to finally head out that way and check it out. It was fairly easy to find, even after losing service for the last 5 minutes of the drive. The winery is on a working farm, and as such they ask that if you bring your fur babies, you keep them leashed, also that you keep your human children at arm’s length. They have pens of cows, sheep, pigs, and they have free range chickens roaming the property, so following these rules will keep everyone safe. The tasting room is rustic and homey, the tasting bar is large enough to accommodate a big group, or a couple smaller ones at once. There are several long wooden tables and seating areas inside, a porch with seating and a fan(absolutely lovely on a hot VA summer day), and a large lawn with a couple of picnic tables set up outside for you to enjoy their wine and your friends/family. They sell a variety of farm fresh products(meats/honey/eggs/etc.), as well as some tables and wall décor. Their wines are decent; my favorites were the Rose and the 2012 Seyval Blanc. They also have a lovely Sangria, as many VA wineries do, however theirs is made with a splash of sweet tea and is the most unique(and delicious) one I have had in VA! WOF is quite lovely. I look forward to visiting them again.
