We booked the English Ivy cottage to celebrate our anniversary and it didn’t disappoint. The cottage is lovely and well kept. The owners were very flexible with our arrival time and went out of their way to accommodate our needs. They supplied us with a vegetarian breakfast and some delicious fruit smoothies to start out our day. We had a busy day planned the morning of our departure and Mary was so gracious to get up early to prepare them for us. She also responded very quickly to every request we made. For a cute, comfortable, private stay with wonderful hosts we couldn’t have asked for more!

I booked the English Ivy cottage as a surprise weekend getaway for my boyfriend’s upcoming birthday. Mary, the innkeeper, was amazing to work with! I emailed her quite a few times before booking– she answered all of my questions and even gave me extra info based upon what I had asked. I told her the reason why we were coming and if I could do the wine basket add-on as a nice touch for when we arrived. Also to note, I had never been to this area before or rented a cottage like this, so I had no idea what to expect! When we arrived, the cottage was even better than the pictures(if that’s possible). The cottage is quite large and definitely beats staying in a small, one room bed and breakfast or hotel. The cottage was beautifully decorated and VERY clean. So cozy with the fireplace, bed was extra comfy, everything really was just perfect! Knowing it was my boyfriend’s birthday, Mary made a mini cheesecake and left it in the room for us! How thoughtful! Even left a nice birthday card and a couple extra muffins. FYI: her baking skills are top notch! Our continental breakfast consisted of toast, English muffins, fruit, baked goods, juice, plenty of coffee/tea/hot chocolate which is all in the room upon arrival. I can’t say enough positive things about this cottage. Mary and her husband also own the local pub, Dubliners, and we ate there the first night. Food(and wine) was great! Overall a perfect birthday escape. Could not have asked for anything more! Many, many thanks to Mary and her husband. We will definitely be returning!

My fiancé & I were lucky enough to stay at at White Fence B&B this past weekend. Mary responded very quickly to my inquiry about availability(Friday night 9pm inquiry for Saturday stay) and we booked the Blue Ridge Carriage House. It was wonderful to have a flexible and late check-in time as we hiked all day in Shenandoah Park. The cottage itself is PERFECT: very spacious and clean with everything you could need for several days. Mary & Dan have thought of & provided everything to make you feel at home and comfortable, i.e. wine opener and cutting board. It was nice to maintain your privacy because you had everything you needed inside your own cottage! Inside the mini fridge you will find waters, mini orange juices, little bags of trail mix, cheeses, and even mini bottles of white & red wine and more!!! I have stayed at many B&Bs and never experienced this level of included goodies– it was such a wonderful surprise! The location of the B&B is beautiful as well. Very convenient to Luray and the park. You can enjoy the lovely backyard on your private adirondack chairs or on the patio which has several rocking chairs and a fire pit. At 9:00am Mary & Dan knocked on our cottage door with breakfast and we were ‘Wow’-ed again! The smoothies made with fresh-picked Sperryville, VA blueberries were my favorite. They accommodated my vegetarian needs perfectly. My fiancé and I agreed that the breakfast was one of the best, if not THE best, we’ve had at a B&B, and we have stayed at some very expensive B&Bs. You get way more than your money’s worth here! I highly recommend for a romantic, private weekend getaway. I couldn’t have been happier with our stay at White Fence. We will be back.

My husband and I stayed there in June for a rather quick get away during an incredibly stressful time. And the owners really took care of us. Its a really cute Victorian(I think) Inn, home of Stanley’s first doctor. So it the Inn contains a lot of history. We stayed in the private Blue Ridge Carriage house and it was just what we needed. I loved that there was no phone, yet the tv was inviting since we needed some time to just decompress from our lives. You can feel the history surrounding you on the beautiful grounds. Also the carriage house felt secluded, romantic and quiet. The town of Stanley is just minutes from historic Luray, but everything in that area is historic pretty much. Lots to do in Luray, typical tourist stuff and the B&B is close to many winerys too! For breakfast special dietary needs can be accomdated. Mike and Sally had many stories to share about their previous travels, book shelves filled with interesting reads from all over the world. I felt showered with hospitality, it was much appreciated from us. Since the experience was so good, and the surrounding area so beautiful I would like to go there during the autumn months or even during a snowy winter weekend.
