I decided to give Jungle Nails a try today as it’s much closer to my home than the place I usually go in South Portland. I get gel manicures about twice a month. Pros: Walk in service was fairly quick. In and out in a about forty minutes. There was around a ten minute wait when I first walked in. Excellent manicure: the lady who worked on my nails was very careful and did a great job, checking to make sure she had filled each nail well and hadn’t missed any spots. With a manicure that lasts at least two weeks I appreciate it looking good. Price: Out the door for around $ 20, about $ 10 cheaper than where I normally go. Cons: It didn’t feel like they had air conditioning, and were leaving the doors open for air circulation. There was a bit of a fly problem. The sofa and chairs were worn. Overall the place isn’t fancy, but it gets the job done and I’ll be going back!

I couldn’t disagree more with the last review. I get my nails done every 10 – 14 days and I have had them done from Manhattan to Standish over the last 20 years. While I will concede it does depend on who you get, I have yet to receive a bad mani or pedi over the last three months I’ve been going to Jungle Nails. In fact, the last pedicure I had was absolutely the best pedicure I have ever had. I have been appalled by the way some of the customers treat the employees. I was embarrassed by one particular woman’s blatant racism and disappointed in myself for not saying something. If you need your nails done, you will be pleased you choose Jungle Nails.

I visit Jungle Nails about twice a month to fill my nails, but tonight I decided to get a standard pedicure. I usually like the outcome of my nails and I pay a pretty penny for them. I always tip my usual girl, Jenni, even when I’m kind of broke. The past two visits were very uncomfortable. I noticed Jenni was very pregnant and its summer so I asked her how she was feeling. We talked about her baby being a girl and that she was 38 weeks. She is a slender short woman and I am a short chubby woman. I told her I was also having a girl. She said«wow you pregnant!?» And laughed. I replied with«yep… 6 months» she laughed and immediately started speaking vietnamese to the others across the room. They immediately started laughing with her. Now come on. Do they really not care that they are being completely obvious. I know I’m big and look about 13 months pregnant but to laugh and make fun of me as you are doing my nails? How stupid do they think people are. Highly insulted, I stopped talking. Thinking how awful you have to be to conduct yourself in such a manner. A few weeks later I decided that since im miserable and pregnant i should let someone else do my toes. I went once more and decided on a pedicure not being able to do them myself. This girl appeared to be in her teens and training for about 3 months. She started my toes but often turned and spoke in vietnamese with a young adult male coworker laughing and having to stop doing my nails frequently to recover. Something was clearly funny. I can only imagine what they are actually saying to one another. I didnt say much just watched tv. A woman and her elderly mother came in. Made it clear she had not had a pedicure once ever and joked about having thier work cut out for them. The staff shot each other looks and giggled while looking and pointing at her nails. The young adult male finished up his customer and started to help the lady while her daughter got her finger nails done across the room. I spoke with the lady for awhile. Just small talk. During this time the two young people worked on our feet talking and laughing and leaning over to point and comment clearly on our nails. Obviously not saying very nice things. I started thinking a tip was out of the question and I cant wait to tell her the reason why. They progressively got worse. A much older woman came at the request of the girl doing my toes. The young girl said some things in a low voice laughing clearly at my expense. The old lady leaned in and laughed and commented while patting the girls back because she was so amused. Something was very hilarious and they used another language to talk about it. Hm weirdly obvious and disrespectful if you ask me. Along with me the woman next to me had been made fun of, pointed at, laughed at and disrespected and she wasnt even aware. I decided to inform the daughter on my way out exactly what just happened and to think about that tip. Another man in a yellow shirt finished his customer and leaned into the young man hard at work. They pointed, laughed and continued this awful display of rude behavior. At this point I thought best to make damn sure the two teens and older adults knew exactly why they weren’t getting a tip and maybe embarrass them a little. I stopped saying thank you and being polite. When the time came to pay, the man in the yellow shirt asked about a tip. I said«oh I would love to, but let me tell you why im not. I have never seen so many rude and childish adults in my life, act this way in public and then have the balls to ask me for a tip. You and your employees lack serious manners and respect. Laughing, pointing, making fun of and shit talking your paying customers DIRECTLYINFRONTOFTHEM.» The man said«oh» and looked down and im happy to say he looked ashamed and red. What a convenient time for the paper to run out in the card machine lol. All the employees looked over but not one said a word. Not even an apology since they clearly had been caught. Jenni stopped doing the daughters nails and picked up the phone to I assume call her boss. I hope he/she knows what kind of place they are running. I continued to tell them they should be ashamed of themselves and could stand to learn to be a little discreet if they wish to have returning customers. That I hope they learned some respect real soon and told them all to have a great night! I turned to the woman and said«boy I hope you didnt tip them because they made fun of and disrespected your mother the whole time shes been in that seat. Like immature children. Im sorry you guys were treated that way also». She said«omg are you serious. I tipped already but clearly I shouldn’t have. This is awful» I told her good luck and I left with not even an apology for the behavior displayed. I sincerely hope the woman and her mother got one after I left! Probably will not be returning to this clan of rude ass«adults» for my nail care and upkeep due to the unprofessionalism.
