Came here looking for some dress shoes to match my suit for an upcoming wedding. The store is not as big as other J&M’s but it had some of the more popular brands available. The cute SalesGirl(Alisha) was very attentive and personable. She showed a couple of different selections and even found me some Egyptian Cotton comfy socks and sweet belt to match the shoes. Liked the way it went together. A Little on the expensive side but this is a fancier store.

Worst customer service ever. Had a pair of shoes that were worn maybe 8 times before the heel feel off. Brought the shoes back to the shop for a return, but they would not allow us to return them. Next I requested a swap out for another pair of the same style– one with a heel — they would not do this either. Cynthia the salesperson then said they would only take it back to have their cobbler fix the defunct shoe… but it would take at least 4 weeks. Unfortunately I had plans to go abroad in 2 wks so I asked if this could be expedited — we were told no again we just. At this point, we threw our hands up and asked for a receipt noting that we were leaving the shoes for them to repair etc. Well, they had no more paper, and told us they could not give us a written receipt. Crazy. So we took the defunct shoes and left to have they(hopefully) repaired ourselves. Thought much more of this company before today. Will not return again… ever. I actually own my own retail shop and cannot imaging treating a client this way. I would be appalled to learn, if this was my business, that customers were being treated in this fashion. Big thumbs down Johnston and Murphy.

Pricey, small selection, and in a dreary mall.

What run o the mill guy writes about a shoe store? Well this one took me completely by surprise. I went to Stamford specifically to shop at two other stores. I happened to pass the window at J&M and a pair caught me eye. The salesman was friendly, attentive, and really personable. The result was a purchase I did not intend to make. But here is the thing, I also stopped by the two stores I intended to shop and was greeted by rude and indifferent sales people at Brooks Brothers and Allen Edmonds — the result was no pricier purchases at those stores and a friendly salesman helped me save money, get a good looking pair of shoes, and shop at a store I did not intend to frequent.
