Dr. Jonathan Aives, DMD, is an independent, private-practice general dentist in Stamford, Delaware County, New York. I am writing this review after my second visit. The first visit was for x-rays and an examination. Today’s visit was for actual restorative dental work. I’m happy to report that Dr. Aives is pretty much everything you could ask for in a dentist. He has a gentle nature, a cheerful disposition, sharp dental diagnostic skills, and great hands. He replaced four old fillings of mine today and I experienced no pain at all.(The fillings look great, too.) The fillings needed to be replaced because they were worn around the edges and decay had formed behind them. But I didn’t know that until Dr. Aives showed me the decay on the x-rays. The teeth didn’t hurt, and I’d had fairly regular and recent dental care at a well-known«chain» dentist which shall remain nameless. Needless to say, I was therefore quite surprised when Dr. Aives showed me the decay on the x-rays. I was even more surprised, however, when I was actually able to smell the decay when his drill hit pay dirt. For a moment, I thought maybe one or the other of us had farted. But no, it was tooth decay, and tooth decay has a pretty putrid odor. I’m glad that Dr. Aives caught it while the fix was still a simple one. As for the office, this is a mom-and-pop dental practice in a home office. Dr. Aives and Marie run the practice as a family business, with the kind of personal attention you don’t get from chains. The waiting room is pleasant and homey, the air-conditioning works, the restroom is clean, and the appointments are on time. There’s also an off-street parking lot with enough spaces that parking shouldn’t be a problem. Long story short, I have nothing but good to say about Dr. Aives and his practice. I scheduled my first visit because of a recent change in insurance, which is usually a royal pain. But in this case, it worked out in my favor because I found a better dentist. I highly recommend Dr. Aives and his practice. Richard
