Food was really good. Service nice too. Classic southern restaurant. The shrimp and grits were really yummy and my fiancé raved about the lobster bisque he had. Older hostesses lady at the front was a bit rude when we walked in since we didn’t have reservations and laughed at us — so that’s never a great way to start your experience.

Visited w/my family while staying at Sea Island. It was our one«culinary excursion» outside of the resort — and it was the best meal of the trip. While everything we had was excellent — I hate saying this — it’s the cheeseburger I split with my wife that I can’t get out of my head — perfection. Appetizer and cocktails were great along w/wine selection, service was very attentive, and what really set them apart was treating my young children very nicely in a ‘classy’ style restaurant(no snob factor). I couldn’t recommend this restaurant any higher. It’s first on our list during our next visit to the Georgia coast.

We always love coming to Halyards when we visit SSI! The food, wine, and service are the best on the island. Thanks to our favorite server, Heather, for yet another fantastic evening!

Lovely new décor. Sound suppressing. Best part was food. Fried oyster sliders with a charred lemon. Chef’s fish special also terrific. Liked that they also had small plates. Personally do not like large entrees.

Pretty good. It’s been a week or so since we were there so I don’t recall what we ate but the place is nice, wait staff very good — college kid on spring break. We both commented on the the nice experience — so give it a try.

My husband & I ate here last night. The food quality was superb!!! He had fish tacos(enough for a meal) as a starter and the filet as an entrée. I stated w the green tomato bisque. It was so good — I can’t describe it! It is NOT anything like canned tomato!!! I ordered the snapper(fish of the day) and it was served w rice and turnips(my first taste of turnips — love!). My only complaint is a personal dislike of the row of 2-tops where one of you sits on a sofa and the other in a chair. And you are next to another couple or between two couples. For a high end price, I’d rather have more privacy.

This was one of the better meals I’ve had recently! The wait staff was truly wonderful and the menu offered a great selection of unique dishes. I will be returning on my next visit to St. Simons.

Halyards is one of my favorite places to eat on St. Simons Island. It’s always the restaurant I go to so I can dress up and splurge. I’ve always experienced wonderful meals and great service. This past Saturday when a group of us went out to eat, I ordered the short rib, when I tasted it I told our server that it was a little dry and asked for more sauce to see if that would help. She apologized and came back from the kitchen with more sauce, but the chef also sent out some really tender pieces that were mouth watering. I really appreciated them turning my dissatisfaction into an opportunity to re-engage me as a patron. Everyone else was very happy with their entrees as well as the appetizers and desserts we all shared. This is a great place to go for dinner with a group or on a nice date. They also have a great bar on one side of the restaurant if you’d like something more casual.

Halyards is a great dining option on St Simons. The menu is creative but not one that combines so many odd ingredients that it makes no sense. As an example, watermelon, arugula, and goat cheese made for a refreshing, a little different, but not crazy salad. We always like mix and match small plate options. The service was marvelous and the food was excellent. We will go back next time we visit Sea Island!

Last night we had our first dinner at Halyards. Our server and wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable and served a beautiful meal. We tried a few small plates which were awesome. The mini meatloaf bites were a fun start, but the shrimp taco to share was Devine then we the bacon, which was paired with sweet potatoes and a fruit chutney… wow! I had the salmon special, which was paired perfectly with a fresh heirloom tomato salad and arugula pesto. The fish was on top of these house grits which were amazing.(And I’m not a grit fan typically) my husband had the shrimp and grits and again he said Best Ever! Thank you for making our first dinner on St Simon so lovely.

I don’t give five stars out too easily. This place was a wonderful culinary experience! For starters we had a great waiter, Charles. He gave us the menu told us what he liked and suggested a wine to go with the fish we were ordering… now that is a professional! My husband had crab bisque with nice chunks of crab. The soup was rich and creamy. I had the special salad, baby bib lettuce with caramelized onions, mandarin oranges, pecans topped with mascarpone cheese in a light vinegarette dressing. Wonderful!

Excellent! Was on vacation with my BF and decided to go for one nice dinner. Our server was outstanding! Extremely nice. Took our picture. Made small talk. Happily answered questions about the menu. The blue crab bisque was very good. My BF loved the bacon appetizer. I had the Sheepshead special, which was excellent and my BF had the Scottish Salmon, which was also very good. I would definitely recommend this place. It was really the highlight of our trip.

A nice step away from beach food on St. Simons when you want something other than bar or beach food. I was at Halyards for a business dinner and even though there were over 12 of us at the table the food was very good, but the service was slower than expected, even with a large group. At one point, everyone was served except for two people and their meals — which were probably some of the simpler ones to prepare came a good 15 minutes after everyone else’s with no explanation nor apology. On the plus side, the food is good. The wine list, while not extensive, had a nice range of options. I settled on a Pinot Noir. We had a lot of appetizers being shared around the table, but the one that stood out was the homemade bacon. It was thick cut and delicious. I followed that with the sea scallops that were huge, but not tough and nicely prepared. If you are on St. Simons and are looking for something nicer, Halyards is a great place to go.

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner at Halyards! I had the shrimp and grits based on previous reviews and it hit the spot. The wedge salad was great — crispy lettuce, creamy dressing, yummy tomato pieces. My husband had the beef and shrimp pot stickers and the seared tuna small plate and enjoyed them both. The best surprise of the night was the VERY low mark up on the bottle of wine we ordered! Our waitress cracked me up — she was awesome and slightly eclectic. She came by the table just enough but not too often. One thing I did notice, and this is a pet peeve of mine, is the food was delivered on top of itself; we were still finishing our salads when the next course arrived. Maybe this doesn’t matter as much to others as it does to me but proper timing of food delivery is a must for a 5 star rating by me. I definitely recommend Halyards and will probably return if we vacation in Saint Simons again!

We dined here for dinner last night. I am and have always been an adventurous eater so I asked the chef to order for me. What a meal! I brought my own bottle of Pinot Noir and the chef started me off with a pork belly that was chargrilled. OMG, slap yo mama delicious! Pair perfectly with the Pinot. Then came a seared tuna over risotto. An unusual pairing of two of my favorite things. I think the risotto over powered the delicate but perfectly cooked fish. But as the entire dish came together it turned out amazing! I didn’t like the ginger on top, that felt completely out of place but easy enough just to push to the side. Amazing meal, great service, and a visit by the chef and owner! The only must do restaurant in St Simons!

We had a great meal on the last night of our vacation. We had a large party of 9 but I had made reservations on Open Table about a week in advance and the table was waiting for us when we arrived. We enjoyed the unique cocktail menu before dinner. Appetizers were recommended by the waitress and all were very good: House made bacon, calamari, crab bisque and some salads. Most of us had fish specials, the grouper of the day with scampi sauce was very good, but I wish there had been some grilled shrimp to top the fish. Everything was very god, service was quick and courteous, overall an enjoyable evening. My only complaint was the price of the steak on the kids menu. At $ 18 it was a little ridiculous. I understand that it was filet, but the portion was so small that even my nine year old was hungry after finishing every bite. We ordered 3 and one was significantly smaller that the others. I suggest using a less pricey cut of meat like rib eye or strip steak and lower the price to $ 12.

We had Halyards do our wedding catering, so we knew that it would be good when we made our reservation. We made a reservation on Open Table for a Tuesday night. The restaurant is nicely decorated and laid out. We were immediately seated. Our waitress was friendly and consistently checked on us. We ordered the shrimp taco(to die for), which they split in the kitchen for us, the she crab soup(creamy delish), the nights special Filet Minon(tender and rich) and the scallops(fresh and light). We also ordered the banana cake with foster sauce which was a decadent end. We would highly recommend that you add this spot to your SSI restaurant list, and for any special occasion.

Just went here last night and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We had reservations at 6:45 and when we arrived there were two couples at the bar and no one in the restaurant. So, we got excellent service and it was quiet. Other couples started dinning a little after 7. I suspect that people don’t know that it is opened back up now, since they were closed the first week of the month. We started out with some wine; I had a delicious sauvignon blanc and him a cabernet. We ordered the beef short rib eggrolls as our appetizer, which were good, especially the sauce, but definitely a small portion. Nice warm sourdough bread was also delivered with our salads; ceasar and wedge. Both good although the ceasar was a bit over dressed. We both ordered the specials: mine a Gorgonzola crusted filet mignon with mashed potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, and sauce and his the blackened flounder with rice pilaf and orange sauce. The filet was cooked perfectly and came out hot(a pet peeve of mine). The fish was tender and flaky. We passed on dessert as we were very full. Although the flour less chocolate cake looked very tempting. This would be a great place to celebrate a special evening, to treat yourself, or share some apps with some great wine and friends.
