This is the other supermarket of St Pete Beach, competing with Publix. The St Pete Beach Publix has not been remodeled so both stores are dated from a look and feel perspective. Winn Dixie is definitely the less maintained of the two; it’s not unusual to find random boxes or pallets in the aisles during the day, or even people doing restocking in the middle of the day for that matter. The aisles are annoyingly narrow as well. That being said, I’ve found prices here, if you join their free buyers club, are mostly lower across the board, even for small simple things. Their price on produce is definitely lower; for example, I buy limes frequently and they’re usually four or five for $ 1 versus Publix two or three. The produce is fresh and plentiful; even carrying some very obscure items. They’re better on meat too. Seafood Publix definitely has a strong lead. For you northerners, this is the same entity as Safeway. For you westerners, think Vons. Another nice feature of this store is a Coinstar change counting machine. It does charge a 10% fee to use, however, the trick is using it to get gift cards. It supports many major retailers and if you get a gift code for them instead of just cash, you pay NO fee to use the machine. Amazon is one of the retailers, and I shop there all the time, so I take all my change here, dump it in, and get Amazon gift codes for no processing fee. Only complaint is here we are just miles from the USF St Pete campus, and a half hour from main campus, but they have signs, contests, specials and merchandise related to FSU and UF with no USF items to be found. Way to insult the local school and its alums!
