Had dinner for 1st time last Tuesday evening. Out of town visitor friends of ours joined us. 4 of us. They do not take reservations. Arrived 5:30pm, & we’re sat at table right by front door entrance. Rest. Seemed busy when we arrived. My husband & our guy visitor order Rib Eye dinners. They were disappointed of meal being tuff in texture. Found gristle in both of their rib eyes. Big bum out, since prices seem high. My girlfriend & I had seafood dinners & we were happy with our meal. Salads were very good & dinner rolls. Service was good & low key. Probably will not select this Rest. In future.

This unassuming location really impressed me. First off, it is very small so be prepared to wait a bit if you go during dinner rush. Also, you may need to wait outside so keep that in mind for how you dress for the evening. The food was good and the menu selection was manageable so you did not get lost in a decision quandry. I enjoyed the wagyu strip and my wife had the filet. They are«anti-a-la-carte» according to their website. Your meal comes with fancy salad and a potato so do not order a lot of apps unless you want a doggie bag home. Beer and wine only which is OK for me. I recommend a hearty cabernet with your steak.

Oh man, we really enjoyed this. Steaks were awesome. I got the ribeye, she got the filet. Both cooked perfectly. Sides were excellent. The house salad was delicious but could’ve had a little less dressing. All in all a very enjoyable evening. Excellent date night restaurant.

I was referred here by some locals and what a great call. Filet was perfectly seared and rare in the middle and the gorgonzola mashed potatoes were off the charts– I’ll be back!

1200! An awesome experience, steak au poirve was as o expected but you don’t see the peppercorns because the chef made this delicious creamy au poirve !!! Cooked almost perfectly I like it a little under the medium but very very good! My husband had a delicious sea bass in a lobster beurre blanc, so good !!’ The waiter Chris was very helpful in making decisions and very attentive !! You will be happy you came here for dinner but come early !!!

I ate here twice in three days, it was that good. Everything is homemade, the environment(a former house) is really intimate and fun. The rolls are amazing and service was great. I highly recommend for a good steak or the sea bass!

Although small and quaint the food portions are robust. The mushroom ravioli was out of this world. Ask for a little less salt on your steak, but this place is a big thumbs up if you can find a seat.

I know I have been hot and cold with this place. But, we have been there twice with guests in the past month. Omg! I am not sure they hired a better cook or what, but the steaks have been Amazing!!! We had a ribeye last night that was just perfect! Flavor and cooked perfect! Service was great. Server had a great sense of humor. The costs $$$. But, worth it. Portions are very large. The salads are very good. They are expanding soon. They do not take reservations. So be prepared to wait at least a hour. Beer and wine only. Parking not very good right now because of construction.

I would give 1200 Chophouse 4.5 actual stars but I rounded up because I’m a «glass half-full» type of girl. On my two visits to 1200 Chophouse on a weeknight I have been pleasantly thrilled with the quality of food, the service, as well as the pacing of the meal. 1200 Chophouse is located amongst hotels, stores, and restaurants on Gulf Drive of St. Pete Beach(Intercoastal side). There is a parking lot on the premises with parking around the side and back of the restaurant. 1200 Chophouse is part of the same ownership and management company as Madfish(which I have not visited). It was created out of a renovated 1940s house and features a 1200 degree searing grill. The meat cuts are aged in-house according to their website. The restaurant does not accept reservations and opens at 5pm sharp. This was initially an issue for an older(95 year old) dining companion, however if you arrive before or at 5 there will be a table for you despite the others who wait for the restaurant to open. I was shocked on my visits at the size of two(fairly) large parties who were waiting outside prior to the restaurant opening and who got in just after it opened. I have observed that it gets pretty busy even early on and I think that is an indicator that people enjoy the food and, as I have spoken to other diners to confirm, come back. An semi-open kitchen allows you so see the chefs and cooks hustling to prepare the food. This can be a tad loud if you are looking to dine with people who prefer a quieter atmosphere(background noise doesn’t bother me). They have a great variety of wine and also serve beer for those of the drinking class(no liquor). 1200 Chophouse serves up meat and(limited) seafood and does it well. My suggestion if it’s something that intrigues you, order the special of the day. I went that way on my first visit with the veal chop with bacon braised brussel sprouts and I wasn’t disappointed. From my experience all cuts of meat have been cooked as asked/preferred. My usual dining companion swears by the ribeye. The Tomahawk ribeye is enormous and a spectacle and leaves a nice bone for you to take to your favorite canine. You can customize any steak with an additional preparation/sauce($ 4) and each entrée comes with a nice salad of mixed greens, cheese, dried cranberries and a nice(opaque) balsamic vinaigrette to start. My experience is that the salad is a bit overdressed and to ask for it on the side. Not a huge salad dressing lover myself, I did enjoy the salad dressing. Fresh bread is brought to the table with a honey butter accompaniment. One my most recent my dining companions and I had the bruschetta which was flavorful and fresh tasting. A generous portion and thinly cut bread didn’t fill me up enough to not enjoy my main course. I have also tried the sea bass and I loved the preparation other than the fact I found it to be a bit salty. The only other seafood dish I saw on the menu were mussels as an appetizer so if you are a non-meat eater be conscious of this. If you are in the area or want to check out a unique steakhouse then this is your place for a memorable meal. The prices for the entrees can be on the higher end but as the saying goes, «you get what you pay for». Give it a try and let me know how you like it. :)

Great place! They do steaks really well here. Many sauces to choose from for the steaks and I like that they bring it on the side instead of covering the steak with it. You get to try the steak first with nothing except the grill flavor which is really good. The only knock is it is a small place with limited parking but this is good in a way because it allows them to focus on the people that are seated. If you are not in a hurry and don’t mind waiting it will be worth it. The staff here is so helpful and good at what they do. The bartenders were some of the best I have seen and offer great feedback on the beer and wine choices of which there are good ones! I also think for the amount of food you get the cost is quite reasonable. I was amazed at how many people were getting their tomahawk cut for one! That is one large steak!

The ribeye is ridiculously good. The house salad with cheese crumbles, candied walnuts, crasins and granny smith apple juliene was also spot on. The place is casual. Service is a lil messy. But the steak. well. yes, yes, yes. Get your dressing and sauces in the side. Go to town. The opening bread and honey butter is very good also. The menu is uncomplicated and the focus is on the select things they serve. Deliciousness. If you want to live a lil save some honey butter and but it on your ribeye. :P Life is grand. No reservations. Small place. Great steak. I sat at the bar. They also feature a few shrimp and mussels type dishes. Fish. In case you are Hindu.

Took my girlfriend here for our anniversary. We were sat by a hostess at a small, uncomfortable wooden table with nothing but two plastic salt and pepper grinders. No music, no real décor except old large A/C piping and tall wooden ceilings. It was also very hot, and we couldn’t carry a conversation because of how loud the restaurant was. Also very, very small and cramped. Our shrimp appetizer with dipping bread, and our separate bread basket took almost twenty minutes after placing our order. We were given two glasses of water by the bus boy, who was out of uniform and didn’t acknowledge us. He dropped it off our drinks and walked away. The shrimp was good. It wasn’t presented well; the white square plate was scuffed and dirty, and the food was splattered all over the rim. I’m nit-picky, but it’s not difficult to wipe the plate, especially with only three visible tickets in the window, and roughly 15 people in the whole establishment. Our server was polite and quick, but disappeared after taking our order. Unfortunately, we cannot review our two main entrees, as we payed for our appetizer and drinks and left after waiting an hour and fiffteen minutes for two medium-rare steaks, fries, risotto and grilled shrimp. Somehow, though, several small two and three top tables were sat after us managed to eat and receive their check before we even had our food. We were also never informed of the daily specials, the menu is very small and doesn’t provide enough detail. I wouldn’t recommend this place to a friend, and probably won’t return. There are many other options out there. I wish it had turned out better because we were really looking forward to our visit here.

Do you know how hard it is to give one of your top 3 restaurants less than 5 stars? It hurts. A lot. I’ve been to chophouse more times than I can count. I have bragged time and time again that it is THEBEST sea bass I have EVER had. I have refereed my Dad and step mother to come here for their anniversary and they have now made it their new tradition(2 years in a row now). I tell all my friends to come here for a nice meal. I LOVETHISPLACE. This is the first meal I have had here that isn’t up to par with the rest. Our server was nice, attentive in the beginning of the meal and less present as the meal progressed. We didn’t really mind, the four of us were entertaining. We started with the brushetta, fried goat cheese, and truffle fries. All were great. I will ordered all of them when I come back. The truffle fries were a little salty for me. This didn’t stop me from dunking them in the cheese that came with them and enjoying every second of it. This is the first time I have ordered the truffle fries and I may or may not come and pick up an order to go from time to time. The salad that comes with the entrees is sooooooooo good! Just go for it, and thank me when you are finished. I ordered the sea bass, obviously. I was beyond excited. Maybe this is why I was disappointed. I ordered this with the garlic mash, and it comes perfectly stacked where you can get the perfect bite from almost every mouthful(I had a bite of the augratin potatoes and still think this is better with the mashed). My dish was so salty, I didn’t want to finish it. I think it was the sauce on it. Now mind you, every time I come here(except the first time) I ordered this dish. NEVER have I had a single complaint about it. Maybe the guy in the kitchen accidentally poured too much in there and didn’t realize it. Maybe he was likely everything so salty. I don’t know, but I didn’t eat more than a few bites. I didn’t want to send it back 1, because I didn’t want to be that person, and 2, because by the end of the meal our waiter was less present. I will order it again and if it is salty I will send it back, but I just didn’t want to deal with it this time. Now I am not one of those people who thinks everything is too salty and sends everything back. I normally like it a little salty. I don’t think this is my taste buds running wild. The other people at my table ordered steaks. They said it was great, cooked perfectly and my boyfriend was the only one who said the seasoning was a bit too salty. We were obviously stuffed by the time we left. Our waiter forgot we ordered dessert, which was okay. Overall I still love this place. I will still come back time and time again. I will still order the sea bass. I will still count this as one of my favorite places. I will not let this ruin it for me.

Excellent quality meat with amazing spices! This was my first time having a Ribeye since I am more of a filet type of guy but oh my gosh this was out of this world. The Flavor!!! Thats all I have to say and how tender it is! It almost makes me not want to order a Ribeye from anywhere else because I now know its not going to be as good as this place. Once you have to best its extremely hard to match it at another place. The only downside is the sides. Not a bid fan of the sides I have had in the past but the steak totally makes up for that. Cant wait to come back for more.

— Short Synopsis — A small, local restaurant with some great flavors and good crust on the steaks. For the truffle fries, a little too much salt for my taste and too overcooked(almost burnt). Everything else I have had was delicious and good. They have good portions. Enough to take home some leftovers. My favorite items so far are the amazing, fresh dinner rolls, and the(literally) sweet butter that comes with it. I also liked the Twin Filet Oscar Mignon over the Angus Ribeye, but both were good. — Summary — The restaurant is small with a small parking lot as well. There is probably around 10 – 15 tables along with about 10 bar seats for its capacity. The parking lot is a good indicator of how full it is and how long the wait can potentially be. This is helpful as there are no reservations for this restaurant. My girlfriend and I ordered truffle fries as she loves fries. I also noticed it was in a few reviews of this place. Even though the flavor was there and we enjoyed the gouda dip, we were still a little disappointed with it. It was too salty and the fries were overcooked to the point where some smaller pieces were essentially burnt. This is something I will not be ordering again. It also put a damper on our initial impression of the place. In retrospect, I don’t think you really need an appetizer as the entrees provide more than enough food for a single person. The house salad was a little overdressed in my opinion, but now I know to get dressing on the side the next time I am at this place. Aside from that, the salad was tasty and enjoyed all the components(walnuts, cranberries, apples, cheese) added to the salad. The dinner rolls were my favorite part of the meal as it just came out of the oven(according to our waiter). It had the soft, warm, fluffy interior with a slightly crispy exterior. The sweet butter just enhances the bread to another level. We both really enjoyed the dinner rolls. I wish we had more. For the main entrees, we got the Angus Ribeye with Chophouse Au Gratin and the Twin Filet Oscar Mignon with Garlic Mashed Potatoes. I enjoyed my Angus Ribeye even though it was more medium than the medium rare I ordered. I liked the crispy crust on the steak as it provided some more texture contrast to the tender meat. Maybe a tad too much salt for my taste. Not really the best ribeye I have had, but still pretty good. I thought the au gratin was mac and cheese at first, but it was delicious potato cubes smothered in cheese and topped with crispy bacon. A tasty, rich, and heavy side. I actually liked the Twin Filet Oscar Mignon more than the Angus Ribeye. I enjoyed the taste and tenderness of the steak better than the rib eye surprisingly. The shrimp, crab, and béarnaise also added more flavor and complexity to the dish. The garlic mashed potatoes were good, but nothing too special. For restaurants in the St Pete beach area, this is definitely one of the better ones and recommend you try it at least once!(for the dinner rolls haha!)

Service and sides top notch!!! Steaks … just OK. Nicely decorated and comfortable but small restaurant. Goat cheese appetizer delicious, bread decent, honey butter excellent… Salad very tasty. Potatoes excellent– Baked, fried, au gratin. Desserts and wine list excellent. Coffee from Keurig but good. Steaks– too much gristle and fat. Cooked to order, sauces flavorful– but quality far less than what a prime quality steakhouse would offer. Get salads sides and deserts and skip steaks! Hmmm…

Pretty damn amazing. We came here on a Saturday around 6pm and didn’t have to wait too long. We both ordered filets — mine medium rare, hers medium. The steak came out and hers was more medium rare and mine was more rare. However, they tasted incredible. They were seasoned perfectly and the steaks were extremely high quality. Absolutely no fat or gristle whatsoever. It tasted so good(even though mine was undercooked) and I scarfed it up. The baked potato side was perfect; soft and fluffy and a perfect compliment. Service was outstanding. This was the difference between a five star review and a four star review(since my steak was undercooked). He was so attentive, friendly and very accommodating. He recommended great wine and beer and was at the call at all times. I won’t hesitate to return.
