Sable Rock Kennels are owned by the same owners as White Stone Kennels. Beware of them both. Our puppy, purchased from the owners of Sable Rock Kennels, was diagnosed with HOD — a bone disease — days after we received her. We were at our local animal hospital the day she arrived from Minnesota. She also arrived with pink eye. We paid $ 1300 for the puppy — she came with a health guarantee — and another $ 1,000 in medical care and second opinions. Callie Smuder, the owner of both Sable Rock and White Stone, would only communicate with me via e-mail. She said the dog was experiencing growing pains and to keep her on a raw foods diet. The breeders refused to take the dog back. After much consideration, we donated our puppy to the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue and recently learned that she is in a great home. Her care included three surgeries and 11K in vet bills. Our experience with Callie Smuder and her husband was terrible. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone. There are plenty of other breeders out there who are eager to work with clients for the sake and happiness of all involved. I’ve read other people’s experiences with these breeders. If you«google» «Sable Rock Kennels Jesse’s Seizures» you’ll stumble on a blog about a Black and Tan from Sable Rock who suffered terrible seizures. That dog was put down when he was four years old. By the looks of the comments section, he wasn’t the only dog from Sable Rock Kennels who suffered seizures or other significant health problems.
