First Class all the way. This place has the best service I’ve ever experienced. Top notch. Only downside, is that it is a bit pricey

Shortly after I completed their post-​stay survey, the Director of Operations for the hotel contacted me and offered her apologies as well as generous compensation. While it’s frustrating that a rare weekend away was so disappointing, her response was much appreciated, and it was clear that our feedback was taken seriously.

I came here for my boyfriend’s birthday this past weekend, and we were both severely disappointed.
First of all, I’ll admit my expectations were high. My parents LOVE this spot and have been spending their anniversary weekends here for years. It is a very special place for them, and my mom has been dreaming about my getting married here. After our experience this weekend, there is no way I would ever entrust the staff at this hotel to get my wedding right, let alone a romantic weekend!
I booked a master suite with an ocean view, by far one of their fancier room options. And the price didn’t bother me. Yes, it is expensive… but an expensive room normally implies excellent service and an overall great experience. The price wouldn’t be a big deal, if that’s what I had actually received.
From the moment I arrived to the hotel, the service was LACKING. No where to be found was the amazing service and attention-​to-​detail my parents raved about:
–There was no one at the valet stand to tell us where to park/​where to enter the hotel/​etc. Not a huge deal, but we waited for 20 minutes. The parking spaces are numbered so it looks like you need instructions from a valet to tell you where to park
–After giving up on receiving parking instructions, we headed inside. No one even greeted us at the check-​in desks. The woman at the desk was busy typing away at her computer and didn’t even notice us waiting for several minutes until I asked her if this was the check-​in area.
–Our master suite wasn’t even ready… EVEN THOUGH I HAD CALLED TWICE to ensure that it was in fact ready, and had received confirmation via voicemail that it would be… WHAT?!
–A valet at this point offered to park our car while we waited for our room to be ready. We gave him the keys and went ahead and explored the grounds waiting for our room to be ready. He told us he would park the car and move our luggage up to the room.
–20 minutes later… room STILL isn’t ready. The valet hands my boyfriend back his keys and tells us we can go ahead and park our car ourselves since our room still isn’t ready. WHAT?! Isn’t that your job since you offered to do it?! At this point, I’m upset. I have never seen a supposed nice hotel be so DISORGANIZED and DISMISSIVE.
–The woman behind the desk had an urgent exchange with housekeeping which was kind of uncomfortable to listen to, and our room was finally ready after another 10 minutes.
–Even though the woman working the front desk could tell I was upset, there was NO offer to help improve our stay despite this error or even an apology.
–I had requested the birthday amenity to be in our room when we arrived for our boyfriend. We got a piece of stale cake wrapped in plastic. EW.
–Even though I had called ahead to make a birthday reservation for my boyfriend at Stars when I confirmed my hotel reservation, they had no record of my dinner reservation. AGAIN, FRONT DESK. C’MON NOW. Thankfully, the staff at Stars was lovely and sent us over to Purcer’s pub to have a drink and also offered us a free glass of champagne with our meal for the error. The meal and champagne were delicious.
I don’t want to detract from the sheer gorgeousness of the hotel… our room was very beautiful, and so were the grounds. It is undoubtedly one of the prettiest and most charming places I have ever stayed.
I’m in my mid-​twenties, so I don’t normally spend this much on a hotel room. I just expected to receive the service that I had heard was synonymous with the Inn at Perry Cabin when I did decide to take the plunge and book a master suite here. Maybe the front desk didn’t take us seriously because we look young and there were other more distinguished/​wealthy guests. I’m really not sure why there wasn’t more effort put in to ensure that we liked our stay, or why the front desk didn’t even ask if we had liked our stay upon checkout. if they had asked, I certainly would have told them it left a lot to be desired. I really wanted to love this place because my parents do, because the staff at Stars/​Purcers is so lovely, because the residents of St. Michaels are so welcoming, but that just wasn’t the case. I spent over $ 600.00 for a night in a fancy room at this hotel, and feel pretty let down by the experience I received.

What has happened here?! Just returned from three days at the Inn. We’ve come across the bridge for a quick get-​away several times so had a good idea of what to expect. But the Inn has changed, and not for the better.
On the plus side, the beds remain comfortable, linens and towels are decadent, rooms are quaintly elegant and staff is generally endowed with a positive attitude. Breakfast was excellent.
Negatives: disorganization at the front desk. We took advantage of the off-​site yoga they offered, except they confirmed the wrong address and when we finally got to the real address (late), it was closed! Front desk spent much time blaming everyone else and lacking even a morsel of empathy or contrition. Activities director apologized later but damage done. [btw, went to yoga the next day and the studio was really nice – and you don’t need to stay at the Inn to take advantage!.]
The dinner was a real disappointment (save for the server whom we enjoyed). Way too much salt, poor timing on the firing, worth neither the time nor the money. [Our 2^nd night we went to 208 Talbot which remains simply exceptional.]
The spa was truly bad – again, save for nice employees. The relaxation room has tepid tea, the steam rooms (both men’s and women’s) were at room temperature after literally 45 minutes. My wife’s deep tissue massage was quite good, but don’t think because you see the word «spa» that you are actually coming to a spa. No sauna, no jacuzzi.
I just don’t know what this place wants to be. If it’s a hotel, then it’s overpriced. If it’s a resort it doesn’t offer the services. If it’s luxury then it needs higher quality food, more amenities and a real spa. And WAY more luxurious bathrooms. [A full-​length mirror anywhere in the room wouldn’t hurt either, says my wife!]
These days even Holiday Inns have high thread count sheets and good beds. I hope this place figures out what it wants to be, and soon, because St Michaels is a wonderful place to go when you need a quick escape. Cute shops, interesting restaurants… now if it only had something like, say, what The Inn at Perry Cabin was like five years ago, we’d be set.
Quick tip – if you decide to risk it and stay here anyway, make sure you ask for a room away from the courtyard, where they serve food and drinks until late and the noise bounces off the walls and into the adjoining rooms (like #23) as though the cacophony is in the room with you!

I spent a wonderful 10^th annual biking weekend with 3 great friends in St Michaels! Today we decided to check out another venue for next year’s event so visited the Inn at Perry Cabin. The entry presentation was exquisite and loved the elegant foyer… then we walked into the reception area… There were 2 young ladies who failed to greet us. Once I got their attention, I inquired into the property and information for our next year’s event and was immediately told that I could take a brochure from the wall. After a minute review I had additional questions and was told to go on-​line for information. I asked about the swimming pool and when it opened and closed (meaning the actual seasonal dates) and was immediately told that it was for guests only. Tacky but also comical!
We were actually dressed nicely, speak very good English and liked the property… unfortunately I am a snob and service is a staple for me.
Was it a bad day for for these ladies @ Inn at Perry Cabin or poorly trained staff… hmmmmm?

1^st class resort. Staff goes out of their way to help. Views are awesome. Grounds are very well maintained.

This is a review about the afternoon tea at the hotel, not the hotel, itself.
We booked the Chesapeake afternoon tea. It is served in the morning room instead of the Stars restaurant. The room is lovely, but seating is inappropriate for eating: comfortable chairs and sofa, but eating at small side tables or coffee table, too high or too low and too far away. Server was friendly and accommodating, but food came out very slowly, long after teapots were served and tea cooled off. Inadequate amounts of clotted cream and jam for scones. Tea, sandwiches, scones, cookies and mini cakes were tasty. Not recommended.

I went in the summer with my boys. They offer lots of great activities for the kids. There’s kayaking, fishing, sailing, and more. The rooms were spotless when we checked in and we enjoyed the water view. They have really nice spa. Overall a great and relaxing experience.

I think people get a little hung up in the «price of room-​to-​hotel experience» ratio. I think in a normal, competitive hotel environment (DC, San Francisco, NYC, Hawaii, etc) complaints about the cost of the room not being equitable with the overall experience are fair. However, in St. Michael’s there are literally 4 hotel options total. I saw the other ones. I would be sad if I were staying anywhere else. It was worth paying a premium to stay at the «good» hotel in St. Michael’s.
So sure, the room was really, really, really expensive, and the experience was not totally perfect. Our «waterview room» was not overlooking the big water that I envisioned, but more of a pond with faraway water views. The pillows were too soft for comfort and the bed was so soft it threw my husband’s back out. I thought the food in the restaurants was only okay and the service in the restaurants was downright embarrassing for a hotel of this caliber.
Buuuuuuuut… if you want an adorable place to get away, this is it. I loved the grounds and that we could enjoy the sunset in Adirondack chairs overlooking the water while a waiter brought us cocktails. There were cute little events scheduled throughout the weekend (cava tasting, s’mores tasting, yoga every morning, etc.) I loved that we could walk to town in 5 minutes — this walk was enough for me to justify ice cream at Justine’s multiple times a day. The showers… oh my God, the showers. I was showering like 4 times a day just so I could enjoy the luxurious bathrooms and the amazing water pressure. And SO MANY TOWELS. The turn down service was delightful.
Again, when rooms are running at least $ 600-​$ 700 per night, none of the above factors would make it «worth the price» in a normal setting where there is competition. But if you’re coming to St. Michael’s, this is by far the best and most beautiful option, and it’s worth a splurge. It’s the perfect weekend getaway if you live in DC and we will definitely be back.

Wish we could do 4 and ¾ stars, because IPC is above four, but below a true five stars.

Beautiful views right on the waterfront to watch boats coming in/​out of harbor
Infinity Pool opens at 7 am and closes at dusk
Excellent poolside service
Great food-can’t go wrong with anything on the menu
Free bikes and kayaks at your disposal
Outdoor games bocce, croquet, etc were also available
Great maid and turndown service
Very friendly staff
A lot of cool activities for the guests to do for kids and adults
Things to think about:
They are pet friendly which doesn’t mean all pet owners are thoughtful or considerate about other guests. Several times we were awoken by barking and howling dogs. Seems the owners leave their dogs in their room alone while they go down to enjoy breakfast or a stroll or whatever.
For the price to stay, it’d be nice if guests could enjoy coffee, water, tea and/​or any other kind of light fare available in the lobby area throughout the day. They do offer coffee in the mornings, but it was picked up by 9:30.
Something that’d be nice since there is only the one pool, would be an adult swim time in the evenings from maybe 6pm to dusk.
The sunset cruises that are offered are truly nice, but again, for the price for them (90.00 per person) it’d be nice if wine, cheese or even water was offered as an amenity to the cruise.

Great resort. The staff was incredible… They didn’t miss a single detail! The food was delicious and exceeded all typical banquet type expectations.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because it was hard to get to. Guess that’s the trade off for the beautiful scenery.

Not worth the cost. Service at check-​in was less then welcoming and basically «transactional». At a cost of nearly $ 400 a night (weekday), one would expect a welcoming atmosphere where the staff are happy that you’re staying here. Room was nicely appointed, but the overall property needs work. What is so disappointing is that this is part of the Orient — Express chain. Having stayed at a sister property in Fiesole/​Florence, Italy I would have expected both extraordinary service and attention to detail.

When we arrived yesterday around 4:45 pm, no valet, no doorman, and no porter helping with bags.
Not 60 minutes later, the wedding band playing outside our room began playing. Loudly. That drove us off the patio. As the evening unfolded, the band amped it up. And up. Which made the band playing at the adjacent property play louder. So ensued the battle of the bands.
What was planned as a relaxing reprieve from busy DC, with dine-​in service on the patio, ended up being something else.
I wrote a message last night explaining the situation alas, no response.
At a min, we should have been advised (when the res was made — two nights before our arrival) or upon our arrival, that a party was taking place outside our room. We should have been given the opportunity to change our night’s stay or assigned a room further away from the revelry.
When we checked out this morning, we were asked how we enjoyed our stay. I explained the noise, to which the agent replied, «Sorry to hear that but I like your watch».
For $ 900+ a night? I have an expectation beyond Holiday Inn-​like consideration.
So much for “. .. the perfect rural retreat”.

The only thing I would have changed is my ability to stay longer.
The grounds and amenities are amazing. Yoga classes, wine tasting, bike rentals, sailing lessons, pool, croquet grounds, bocce court, rose garden etc. Etc. Etc.
Every single thing at every meal was amazing, fresh and homemade. Open faced salmon sandwiches with monterey jack, spinach, onion and tomato? Grilled rockfish with baby bok choy? Yaas!
My room was amazing. Larger than most NYC apartments. Sitting area, king sized bed, soaking tub and rain shower.
Every single staff member greeted me and was helpful and knowledgeable.
Seriously this place is the nicest hotel I’ve ever had the privilege of staying in. I would love to come back, anytime, but especially in the summer and really enjoy the waterfront and pool.

Nicest hotel I’ve stayed at. Plenty of great spaces for lounging. Library, sitting areas. Cool bar. Great Resteraunt.

We rather enjoyed our weekend at the Inn at Perry Cabin. The inn is a quick easy drive from DC and the perfect weekend away.
I specifically loved:
The patio off of our room with views of the water
Breakfast at stars! It was perfect
The service
Dinner at the pub!
The products in the bathroom
The fact they will drive you into town
Activities included, such as cocktail tastings and bikes!
Pet friendly
Didn’t like:
I looked up the rate to come back in August and it is 800 a night! The hotel is nice but the rooms aren’t an 800 a night kind of room.
The bathroom could have been cleaned a little better.
I would definitely return but not for 800 a night. The service is on par with that of Sea Island and the location is beautiful. I recommend a casual dinner at the pub and a bike ride into town. I hope to return in the future!

The main reason for such a low ratings is the Price Point. Now I like to spend money and usually don’t complain about doing so however this place is just way to expensive for the experience. There was nothing very special about the place in the winter. At $ 1130 dollars for one nights stay I expected much better. The buildings are in need of alot of touch up paint which other than price and lack of things to do are my only complaints. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the Dinner was expensive but well worth the price. The Room was nice but not exceptional. The TV was on a box at the end of the bed and the wires and back of TV is what you saw when you entered the bedroom.
I would recommend staying somewhere else and going there only for dinner.

A luxury hotel in St. Michaels, the Inn at Perry Cabin by Belmond has a rich history. The building dates back to the colonial period (1816), being the site of the English Crown’s land grants (I also thought it was cool that the movie, ‘The Wedding Crashers’ was filmed here!). The gardens are lovely, such as the Entry Garden, the Kitchen Garden (which provides herbs and lettuces for the menu at their restaurant, Stars), the Greenhouse, and the Cutting Gardens. The staff here are extremely friendly, and the Inn exudes a lovely seaside inn charm — when you enter, there are little rooms where you can sit down on their comfortable couches and leather armchairs to read the daily newspaper, a magazine, from their collection of books, or enjoy some games. They also offer activities, such as sailing and boating, boat building (!!!), sailing with an oyster catcher (!!!), and other amenities included in your daily rate (fitness classes, lectures, crafting sessions, wine tastings, and open-​air movie nights (when weather permits)). They have different rooms available, such as Superior Rooms (overlooking the gardens), Deluxe Rooms (overlooking the waterfront lawns), Deluxe Waterview Rooms (views of the water), Studios (water views), 1BR Suites (with a balcony and living area), and Master Suites — the rooms are all bright, have natural light, and are decorated in a fresh/​clean way. Also, if you’re a guest, you also receive fresh fruit and freshly-​baked cookies! The Inn also has a spa on the premise (Linden Spa), offering services such as massages, facials, waxing, mani/​pedis, and even treatments for the gentlemen: D They also have an infinity pool as well as pride themselves in using local ingredients; a spa apothecary is also on site as well as some wear from Vineyard Vines: D I also love that the Inn is pet-​friendly (with an additional fee), and, if you are an owner of a boat, there are no docking fees! Definitely a nice place to stay if you’re in the St. Michael’s area: D

Would definitely come back for a weekend stay. The Inn is on the main street and a block away from the beginning of all the cute shops and restaurants.
The room was clean and very nicely set up. The bar and dining room were great, food was delicious. The staff is very attentive and welcoming.
They have cute activities for the guest to try. We did «What’s that Wine» with Chance and it was delightful. Even if you know a ton about wine, you still learn something new.
I do have one criticism — the bed was very uncomfortable. It was lumpy and dipped from a lot of people sleeping on it. Kind of a turn off.

Another great stay at Perry Cabin.
Turns out that Perry Cabin is ULTRA dog friendly. Our dog was welcomed with a paw mat, huge pet bed, water bowl/​bottled water, treats, and a letter addressed to him by name. There was also an adorable «Canine Menu» that included beef tips, a burger, etc. One of the desk staff even took to petting him and giving him treats every night. However, I would recommend getting a suite if you are coming with a dog. We opted for a regular king room this time and would have liked a bit more space.
Despite the cold fall weather, the Inn offered a variety of activities, including kayaking and morning yoga. My favorite was the cava cocktail activity. I remembered enjoying the champagne tasting with the same host (Chance) a couple of years ago, and found him to be just as accommodating during the cava cocktail afternoon. He built the drinks carefully and correctly, rather than just plopping citrus peel in as many champagne bars do.
It was pretty frigid and windy in the evenings, so I got to spend a lot more time at The Purser’s Pub on this trip. Honestly, the food was hit or miss. Next time, I’d avoid the overdressed salads (or request less dressing), but the shrimp and grits appetizer was delicious and huge… satisfying enough to sub in as a dinner entrée. The Bee’s Knees cocktail (gin, lemon, and their own in-​house honey) was dangerously smooth. You can actually buy the honey at the Linden Spa, if you’d like to recreate the drink at home.
Service was attentive and helpful, as always!
