We had Whistle Stop as our dessert for our wedding! They made us little cups, delivered them in coolers and had them set out. Everyone raved about how much they liked it. Thanks Whistle Stop!!!

It’s a nice little hidden ice cream shop in Ferguson. A lovely place for tourists and people in the neighborhood. The prices are very reasonable and the inside of the place is decorated with train memorabilia. If one is lucky enough to hang around, a train will pass by! The vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips and pecans was good. I like that there is advertisement listing the different flavors of the month in the neighborhood’s newspaper. Haven’t tried the sandwiches yet. A nice cozy place for lunch. The area is quiet and friendly.

Restaurant was clean. Neat concept. About a dozen tables inside. Walk to the ticket counter to place your order. They were friendly. They give you a ticket with a number, the boarding pass/train ticket. They say now boarding ticket xyz when your order is ready. Neat for kids. Got the cable car sandwich for just less than $ 7. The sandwich was fair. Lots of bread. Not much meat. Only half slice of tomato I each half of sandwich. Needed more veggies. It was served hot so that was nice. I didn’t get the ice cream so perhaps that was the failure there. However, I was looking forward to a nice sandwich for lunch. Would I eat it again? Yes. Was it worth the $? No. I heard the desserts were just ok, not the best. Though the dessert menu looked really good. Will I return? Perhaps. But not at the top of my list.

Its a great place right off Florissant road by 70, 270, and 170. Located next to a train it takes on the train theme. The place is cool as is the area. I got a pumpkin pie concrete and it was probably the best decision of the day. If you are into small-town downtown areas full of hipsters and good treats i recommend this place high on the bar.

This is a fun little place that my 3 year old son and I enjoy for lunch in Ferguson. I have the Turkey sandwich each time. I always intend to branch out to something else… but I come back to it. I follow them on Facebook, so they post their daily specials that come with a cup of the flavor of the day. Good ice cream. Every now and then we get lucky and a train goes by. They have outdoor seating, so it’s a great little alternative for lunch

Been there several times, always a good time. If you or a family member are a train fan you’ll love this place. Prices are reasonable, food is decent, they’re never busy, and there’s a small train track outside for kids that love trains to play on.

A great place for frozen custard and for lunch located right along a railroad line(hence the name)! It’s an old train depot that now has a great feel to it, with a bunch of history of Ferguson covering the walls; really cute.

This is a good place for lunch in the Ferguson area. The salads and sandwiches are good(I always have the Boxcar with turkey), and the frozen custard is very tasty. As other reviewers have mentioned, the differentiating factor is the location/building. The restaurant is a train depot from around 100 years ago. This is a fun place to come if you have young children who are into trains. While you may see trains while driving in your car, it really is impressive how loud and heavy freight trains are when you are very close to the tracks. It’s been a while, but I have been at the Whistle Stop where the train stopped and a crew member climbed down from the cab to take back a bag containing several concretes. When the weather is nice in the spring or fall it’s fun to sit outside.

By far my favorite ice cream joint ive ever been to. I cant say its the best in st. Louis b/c ive never had ted drews so i cant compare the two. They have good concretes and shakes, but what My dad and I love most is the hot fudge sundaes! They are so good and you get a pretty decent amount of frozen custard and lots of hot fudge too! The building used to be the original trainstation that started ferguson and its decked out in train paraphenalia and old pics of Ferguson on the walls. you can even find some of the houses pictured that are still around! They have a table set up with toy trains on it for the kids, but they dont usually get to play very long b/c your order comes out pretty quickly. They serve more than just ice cream, but ive never had anything on their lunch menu. You can also get a nice little history lesson of ferguson with all the old pics of ferguson on the walls. Overall I’d say they have a great atmosphere, good service, and good icecream. The only negative thing i can think of is that they arent exactly the cheapest, but its definetly worth it!

Ice cream is excellent. Love the chocolate malt. Big drawback — the hours. I checked their website before leaving home and they are open til 10 pm. Drive up there and they are closed at 9:15. Will think twice if they can’t get their act together.

This was a very unique place. The custard was good and not overly sweet. The fact that it is an actual train stop with most of the original décor makes it special. Also lots of history. I definitely would come back! The waitress accidentally forgot part of our order, but was quick to correct it and brought it to the table. They were very courteous.

This is far and away the best custard joint in the Ferg. Their sandwiches are great too, and the prices are downright reasonable.

Have you ever been to a real train station? I have not. But this place definitely made me feel like I had been! If décor could make up for the quality of the food, I could give this place a 5… All of the menu items were railroad themed, the history of Ferguson and the nearby railroad were all over the walls, AND when my food was ready, they yelled«now boarding number 231!» How cute is that? My dad also asked if the train tracks are still in use, and we were told that yes, if you were to have a long lunch you would probably see/feel a train go by. My group only got ice cream and it melted super fast despite the fact that we were in an air conditioned room… I don’t know why that happens, but some ice cream places just can’t hold it together so you can finish the frosty treat! I don’t think we will be back, it’s kind of out of the way for anything we do.

This is a wonderful north county gem that is easily overlooked. The restaurant is in a restored Wabash Railroad Depot and it’s very fun. What makes the Whistle Stop worth a visit is that the food served there is not the run of the mill stuff you see at other restaurants. It seems that most of the menu items are either created by the staff there or interesting variations on a common theme. For example, I’m a soup man and they have had alternatively Broccoli Cheese Soup, Asparagas Soup, Mushroom Soup, etc. not something you see at most restaurants. The salads are also interesting twists accented with fruits or nuts that you would not expect. I think the custard is very, very good and worth a visit all by itself. The staff is friendly, helpful, and gracious. One of my favorite things to do is host parties there and have had three birthday parties which were just a lot of fun. Since the Ford plant closed, there is not nearly as much train traffic as has been there in recent years but you may get lucky and see a big freight rumble by. Definitely on my list of restaurants to visit again!

Great place for sandwiches and frozen custard. Housed in the Ferguson Depot Museum — learn all about this history of this interesting community. Great county bike trail nearby connects back to UMSL and Metrolink. summer concert series oudoors and kids’ birthday parties are also fun here.

Whistle Stop is one of those places serving up decent sandwiches, soup, and custard in a gimicky fashion that may be cute for some but simply gets a «huh?» from me. Shortly after posting that North County list, I was told that Whistle Stop was a must try spot. It seriously is an old train stop with a mini-museum and apparently, there’s a telegraph club that meets up here every so often. It’s quaint. It’s cute. It kind of irks me. The whole ordering and getting a «ticket» and waiting for your«passenger number» being called complete with bell bothered the heck out of me. We were the only ones in the place and you still insisted on this? But you know what, running on principles isn’t a bad thing at all, especially when you’re offering daily specials that include a sandwich/wrap, soup/salad, a drink, AND some custard for just above 7 bucks. The food was decent(seriously nothing special about anything, even the custard) but it definitely made me look forward to finding more things that North County has to offer.

I know the name is not exactly original. However, regardless of that lapse in judgment, this place is super cute. The ice cream isn’t the best in St. Louis but what it lacks from Ted Drew’s it makes up for in ambiance. The ice cream shop is actually an old train station, and you can sit and watch the trains go by while you hang out and eat your ice cream. They have sandwiches and salads(I think) too, but the ice cream shop is the main draw. The concretes are pretty good but the shakes are my favorite. You will feel very«Pleasantville» hanging out in this establishment with your shake/float watching the trains pass… I’m telling you, this place is all ambiance. There’s also a little museum inside about a history of Ferguson I believe(don’t hold me to that, I have not looked at this stuff once, but I know it’s there). In short, stop by if you are in Ferguson… no other place like it.
