Note: The purpose of Volleyball @ reviews is to separate commentary about sports leagues and their facilities from the schools, community centers, parks, churches and other sites who host these groups. Attention is paid in particular to the sport of volleyball and player needs for that. Two years later, the league hosted by the City of Brentwood continues to offer a reasonably-priced, central option for those interested in recreational volleyball. What’s(still) good: * The location is a short drive from the interchange at 170⁄40 and there’s plenty of parking. * Both Monday and Tuesday night recreational leagues are competitive, but not overly so. The quality of play is good and fairly even between teams. Good sportsmanship is the norm. * Brentwood Parks & Rec does a good job of maintaining the standings and schedules throughout the season. Schedules are available online and emailed to captains, even before the season begins. * There are two prizes offered: a set of t-shirts for the regular season winners and a trophy for the winner of the playoffs. What’s not so great: * Officiating can be hit-or-miss. Refs here have to work the game from the ground, making it harder to spot the ball on the edge of the court, or see when players have crossed the center line. * While the game balls are in fair shape, the nets are not. Loose on both the top and bottom, it’s nearly impossible to dig a ball out of the net here. * The gym is small with a(comparatively) low ceiling and narrow boundaries.
