If you have not been yet… GO! This is a MUST. Love the food, love the people, love the mission behind this café. Urban Studio just adds to the awesomeness of this city. If your heart is beating in the right place, you will have already visited and gone back time and again to Old North’s community café.

Right behind Crown Candy Kitchen comes the other restaurant option for Old North — a little coffee shop that’s got coffee drinks, some sandwiches, and baked goods. It’s alright, but definitely a low-budget type of restaurant. I love that it’s another place to show off that North St. Louis isn’t «scary.» Let’s get over that whole thing, k? Yays: — Coffee is pretty good and cheap! — I feel like I’m part of something by getting coffee here. They provide jobs to people in the neighborhood, which might not sound like much, but there’s not exactly a lot of potential jobs around ONSL! — Very friendly environment and servers, and always some characters in/around the store. — I’ve only had breakfast sandwiches, but it was egg, ham, and cheese, and freshly cooked just for me. Nays: — Baked goods are totally from Sam’s Club. Pass. — They close really early! Not a place to go for coffee in the evening.

It’s been about six months since my last visit to The Urban Studio Café and wow, what a difference! Instead of just baked goods, they now do sandwiches and some specialty food. And they are equipped to do boxed lunches for area businesses. I stopped in yesterday to say«hi» to a friend who works there and ended up staying for a few hours and ordering some nachos. You know, the cafeteria kind with just cheese? That’s my favorite kind of nacho :) I would like to come back sometime soon in the evening, as they offer live music on certain nights of the week. Will let you know how that goes!
