Stopped here while in St. Louis for a concert! The menu has lots of variety. If you’re looking for healthy options they have a wide variety of salads! Prices are reasonable and food is fresh. I would definitely eat here again. The building is very small and I imagine on a busy day feels very crowded. Overall the place is a nice lunch stop and everyone I was with loved their food!

Uptown Café probably has the best lunch deals in Clayton. The box lunches include any sandwich, the homemade chips, a small amount of really good slaw, and a homemade cookie. They also have a great pizza special on their thick and thin crust pizzas(I’d recommend the thin but that’s because I’m not a fan of non-chicago style thick crust). The salads that comes with the pizza are so good that I am tempted to do something I have never done before; eat a salad by itself for lunch. I’ve always gotten my food to go so I can’t comment on the service but the lady who always rings me up is nice. I also noticed that all the lights are off every time I get off work around 6:30pm.

Went here for lunch with a friend the other day. Great food, reasonable prices, very filling. I would definitely go back!

I’ve only actually eaten there in person once but the office regularly orders them for take out. I hear from coworkers the pizzas are a-ok but I prefer the following two items: Cajun quesadilla(large and flavorful) or the seasoned beef(whatever cheese they use is so creamy and delicious). The chips are also really good. I will continue to visit this local restaurant for my lunches.

I do not understand how this place has so many positive reviews. My husband and I went because we had a Groupon and we lived nearby. The food was really bland– just not good. The service also left something to be desired. There are so many better places in Clayton!

I went here with a groupon and I loved it. It was difficult for two people to spend 30 dollars, we got a lot of delicious food. The service was really nice and friendly and I think they definitely take pride in their business, their customers, and their food. We ordered a bowl of chili and some fries. The fries were perfectly crispy. I ordered a personal pizza and my date ordered a stuffed baked pasta dish. Both were fantastic. My pizza had thin crust, it had gorgonzola cheese, sausage and walnuts. I loved it. I would most certainly go back. They have an extensive menu, and I’d love to try their other sandwiches and pizzas. I do wish that their hours extended to the weekends!

Small place, with excellent homemade food. Everything was delicious and our waiter was great. Would definitely return!

Ate dinner here last night because we had a groupon that was expiring in a couple of days. The place was packed with groupon procrastinators(someone should make up a catchy term for people who purchase groupons and scramble to use them in the last few days of validity) The service was cordial, but overly apologetic because they were thoroughly overwhelmed by how busy they were on a Tuesday night. The young girl who waited on us was trying really hard to keep up and remain upbeat, but she was clearly struggling to keep up. The food was good, but pretty pedestrian. The appetizer was an interesting take on bruschetta; creamy and decadent with artichoke hearts and cheese. My pizza was good, but not great. The flavor was a little flat. Teen’s BLT was served burnt and had to go back. Can’t speak for the husband’s pizza. Tween devoured her meat ravioli with marinara, but to me it looked like frozen ravioli with jarred sauce. We ordered chocolate bundt cake for dessert and I would bet dollars to donuts it was triple chocolate cake that we frequently buy from Sams club. Overall, I would try them again if I were in the neighborhood. I should have read Patt C’s review and ordered the quesadilla — live and learn, I guess!

I will preface this review with a few basic points: 1. We had a Groupon that was expiring in a few days(much like the rest of the diners, apparently) 2. I think I recognized the cake that kid 2 ordered from Sam’s Club as their triple chocolate cake 3. I rounded up to get to 3 stars The food was decent but not exceptionally memorable. Perhaps the best bite of my evening was the non-traditional bruschetta made with artichoke hearts and some other yumminess. Nothing like taking an inherently healthy appetizer and adding a bunch of mayo and cheese to make it into something guilty. Unfortunately, about a third of it came out with burned bread. Kid 1 had a BLT that had to go back because of burned toast. Once it was remade she seemed to enjoy it well enough. Kid 2 demolished her share of the appetizer, her entire salad and her entire meat ravioli with nary a word spoken. She then ate an entire piece of chocolate cake. She’s a skinny thing but watch out when she is either hungry or really likes what she is served for dinner. Apparently she was a fan. The wife ordered a pizza with pesto sauce and vegetables. She seemed to enjoy it but I passed on the piece I was offered. I couldn’t decide between two of the other small pizzas so I told our waitress to surprise me. She came out with something like a cajun chicken pizza that was good but not great. Certainly nothing that I will be craving in the future. A few knocks — apparently everyone and their brother has a groupon for this place and they all expire this week. Consequently, they are overwhelmed by the traffic and were understaffed tonight. It happens… and they tried hard to make up for it but I actually felt a bit sorry for them because they had more business than they were accustomed to having on a weeknight and never really got caught up on service until several tables departed. I spoke to the proprietor before leaving and thanked him for offering the groupon because I don’t know that I would have found this place otherwise.

Grouponed it here tonight for a little half off deal… I must say, Uptown Café delivered on all levels. The food was honestly incredible. Even though they call themselves a café, and the food is rather straightforward(as it should be for a café), it was executed at a level far beyond a simple«café». I would recommend everything we selected– Margaretta Pizza, Buffalo Chicken Wrap, oh and the homemade chips were basically amazing. Service– awesome. Price– 15 dollars for all the food mentioned above, 2 beers, and a glass of wine… ridiculous. In summary, understated amazingness…

This place is really good. I usually have the downtown special, a pizza and a salad. The salad is delicious and a perfect size, and the pizza is St. Louis style, which I love. You get all that for about $ 8, which is really good, especially in Clayton where lunches can get pricey. The service is always adequate, if not super friendly. I don’t mind it though because when I’m there, I’m there to talk to the person I’m with, not the server, so I’m fine with not a lot of talking from the server. When you eat here you can tell everything is homemade. It’s just all a little different than what you would find anywhere else. On the salad you get a special little croûton, and on the pizza you can have your choice of some really crazy toppings. All in all, if you need lunch and you’re in Clayton, there is no other place to go, unless you want to spend triple.

I always had the impression that this was a little deli counter type place when I heard of it or drove by. Turns out they have table service and a lot more than just sandwiches. They have a large variety of appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, pizza, wraps, quesadillas, pasta, and desserts. We had a Bacon and Cheddar soup, which was delicious. And while mulling over the menu, we saw the next table receive the Seasoned Beef sandwich on toasted garlic bread with a side of au jus. It looked so good that most of our table of 6 ordered that very sandwich. It did not disappoint. I look forward to coming back here and exploring more of the menu.

Wow. What a gem. Went for lunch on a random Tuesday. All 3 in my party were completely surprised how great everything was. I had the cajun chicken quesadilla, which was borderline ridiculously good. I tasted the Manhattan thin crust pizza, and that was also surprisingly good. There was only one server, who was doing a wonderful job, especially considering all tables were full. The place is a bit small, so come early, late… and often!

We got delivery for a working lunch. There were six of us. I saw a huge quesadilla, which was a margherita quesadilla with Mozz, roma tomatoes, basil, garlic and topped with fresh Parm. That was consumed in record time. Two diners got pasta that came with a house salad. Both pastas were proclaimed A-OK. One was cannelloni; I don’t know what the other one was. #4 got the seasoned beef on toasted garlic bread and a side of au jus. Choice of slaw or homemade chips. He chose slaw. He enjoyed. #5 got the Uptown Greens salad(which was entrée-sized, IMO) with walnuts, chevre cheese, red onion and parm with balsamic vinaigrette; and the tuna supreme sandwlch with honey-dijon mustard and mayo, avocado, sprouts and sliced tomatoes on nine-grain bread. He ate it all up, and that sandwich was really thick! I got the Luncheon Salad, a blend of iceberg and romaine(mostly romaine), tomatoes and black olives(bleu cheese dressing); and the New Yorker, corned beef on rye with Swiss, served with dijon mustard, beautiful lettuce, sliced tomatoes and two beautiful and tasty pickle spears. Choice of slaw or homemade chips. I chose the chips, though I am leary of homemade chips, which are often overcooked and burned. The Luncheon Salad was huge and so wonderfully chocked full of black olives, it was a meal by itself PLUS some. The Bleu cheese dressing was acidic/vinegary reminding me of Kraft. If it was homemade, they need to work on their recipe. The homemade chips were crisp(despite the delivery situation; KUDOS for that!!), well-seasoned and crunchy flavorful. No overcooked or burned potatoes here! I got to the sandwich later(for dinner): removed most of the bread and enjoyed the fabulous tasting, tender and plentiful corned beef with the dijon mustard, lettuce, and sliced tomatoes. When we order in for lunch, we must ensure there’s enough variety to satisfy all taste and dietary requirements. Uptown Café filled the bill!

This was a nice surprise. Sat on the patio for lunch in beautiful weather. Menu looked good with a bit of something for any taste. I ordered the New Yorker with homemade chips and an iced tea. Everything was good and service was pleasant. The bill came to $ 13.50 with tip, just fine given the experience. This is a cozy spot for lunch, I’ll be back.

Great customer service! Uptown café always has great food, but I wanted to give them a nice shout out for the great customer service, something that is all too scare these days. My order got a little mixed up on the way to a holiday party. They didn’t miss a beat. They made it right and got me to the party on time.

Decent little space … a café it is. I had the special of the day which was a crispy chicken sandwich, and while it wasn’t so crispy, it was an excellent. The chicken was crispy … but the bread and cheese it was with, plus the chicken being very moist made the juiciness overtake the crispy. I can’t really describe it properly but it was really good. I would order it again for sure. It came with onion rings which were pretty good and I also had the iced tea which was well made.

Here in Clayton for business and decided to check out this local spot. Cajun Chicken Quesadilla, one word… WOW! I generally will give most restaurants 4 stars unless there is some moment that they go above and beyond. They did, I placed a to-go order and told the hostess I would be outside while it was cooking. I had just got ready to walk in and check and she was walking out with my food. Thank you for the extra touch!

The very best quesadilla I’ve had outside of my own! ;) Great walking location from any office in downtown Clayton or call ahead and pick up! You just can’t go wrong with anything and a side of their HOMEMADECHIPS!

My office is conveniently located near this place and I’ve enjoyed lunch there a few times! With the FAB food and very reasonable prices, Uptown Café is quickly becoming one if my favorite spots! I’ve tried something different each time and have never been disappointed! If I have anything negative, it’s the server(owner/manager?). She’s a little abrupt and not very friendly. Sort of reminds me of that East Coast persona! I’ll still eat there, though. The great food overpowers her lack of people skills!
