I just had breakfast in the shadow of the St. Louis arch. I tried to enjoy their breakfast buffet, but it was a little difficult with the sub-par items and lack of variety on it. The store looked a bit dirty. The mirrored back splash behind the buffet looked like it needed attention and I don’t think the floor was vacuumed from last night’s service. I was the first person in the restaurant this morning, but I was seated directly next to a window with 23 degree weather. Other than this miss step and not being seated when I came in the restaurant, the service was pretty good.

Hotel prices, but still reasonable. The food is excellent. I’ve had both the fish & chips and the turkey club, both were yummy! Generous portions, too. Their fries are fat steak fries — nom! Besides the incredible view and little courtyard garden, what really sets this place apart is the staff. Everyone I’ve met is friendly, genuinely happy, and will bend over backwards to help you.

Food was pretty highly priced for the quality and the service was inattentive. There are much better options for dining just a few steps further off property.

I usually don’t eat at hotel restaurants. I’d much prefer to whip out my trusty Unilocal App and find a private joint that has four stars or so. Sometimes bad weather and bad timing come together and that was the case here. Over three days I enjoyed one breakfast and one lite dinner. A word about the atmosphere– The Crowne Plaza is an old-style hotel. If you have breakfast or lunch here I think the atmosphere is fine. The restaurant is bright and airy and suits those meals. For dinner I’d pass. It just feels wrong. However I have a PROTIP for you. The downstairs Lobby Bar is classy and gorgeous and you can get the same food there. It would be a much better choice for dinner. The breakfast I enjoyed was a build-your-own omelet. It was fresh and tasty and came with very nice home fries. Along with toast and coffee it cost me about $ 12. My waitress was great. On another day my lite dinner was just a burger and fries. As per my tip I enjoyed it in the classy Lobby Bar. It was cooked to order and juicy. The bun was fresh. The fries were hot and crispy. Just a reminder that it came from the same kitchen. Once again it cost me about $ 12. The bartender that served me was excellent. Both meals were a very solid 3.5 stars.
