I always thought it would be pretty unsafe to review my place of residence, but since I’m moving out now, I’m pretty darn excited to share my love of the Embassy Building. Last summer I roamed the streets of the West End for a couple of weeks just checking places out, comparing prices, etc., and when I found the Embassy, situated at the intersection of Delmar and Union, I signed a lease on my first visit. Everything about this place is so grand and beautiful. It was built in the early 1900’s and the lobby has gorgeous terrazzo floors, incredible architecture, and restored gold décor, as well as a baby grand piano in the corner. Aesthetically, the Embassy does not disappoint. The outside of the building is cool, too, with huge flags lining the entire front. I lived in a studio and I’m still so sad to leave it… it was perfect for a busy working girl and was big enough to feel like I wasn’t living in a box. It was the biggest studio I could find, and has a separate kitchen, bathroom, and dressing room area. The bottom line is that it is just adorable… vintage-style bathroom with a huge bathtub, and the kitchen has a black and white checkered floor. All appliances worked perfectly and my electric bill(apartment is all electric) was always really small because it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to heat it up or cool it down. For a brief(amazing) period in between seasons, opening the windows gets the job done just fine. A few other really great perks: –Fitness center in the basement that has a good amount of cardio equipment as well as weights. There’s a big flat screen, too, and no one is usually down there so you can typically work out alone. –Washers and dryers on every floor, so convenient. They also give you cards filled with $$ for them when you move in. –Elevator… regular and freight. –Gated parking lot with security cams you can watch on your TV. –Free wi-fi in the lobby(also if you live on floors 2 or 3) Only a few complaints: –The elevator is often not working, which doesn’t bother me too much because I was on a floor close to the ground, but if I was an eight floor resident I probably wouldn’t be thrilled. –The gate on the lot is often broken and just open for anyone to pass through. The leasing co. tacks on a little fee for these amenities, so it’s really annoying when they’re not working. –Someone on my floor smokes and nothing is really done about it. I know that they can’t track that person down, necessarily, I just wish there was a better way to enforce the rules. Really great place and nice & affordable. Let’s hope I like living with my fiancé as much as I like living in the Embassy!
