This small library inside the old post office is a wonderful downtown getaway. It is small for a library but has a great selection for any reader. This location is quiet yet pleasant; a wonderful lunchtime spot for downtown employees. Hey, you can’t go wrong with a library. Also, there’s a café in the building.

Located in the Old Post Office, this library is sharing some of the burden of offering its services while the larger, main library on Chestnut goes through renovations. It’s actually quite stunning walking into this place. Comparatively, it’s a small library, but has a great selection of new fiction, and a disproportionate amount of really good cook books. This library is next door to a Pasta House, and depending on whether or not you like that sort of food, then you could easily read your freshly borrowed book while chowing down on some ravioli. The space is open, and airy, and highly conducive to reading; the few seats that are in there are pretty comfortable. However, if you walk outside, make sure to scoot away from the building. Apparently, the pigeons here have designated the area within five feet of the building’s walls as their danger zone. I can’t wait for the park across the street to be finished. It’s definitely going to add some beauty to the busy, redeveloping downtown St. Louis.
