Hi, I am a book nerd. I read. A lot. Always have, always will. God willing. My parents used to garage sale and I would flip out when they came home with a bag of books for me. I would put them in careful order of what I wanted to read most to what I wanted to read least. I felt like the richest kid in the world when I had a tower of garage sale books. I worked at this branch for about a year and a half a few years back. Man, that was a great part time job. So why 5 stars? I went to this branch yesterday to tell them my sad tale of how my car was stolen a week and a half ago and how, along with my car, three library books were stolen that had been inside. I had my wallet out and everything, expecting to have to pay for these books. She let me know that they were going to put the books in as ‘missing’ and, should they be recovered(because, let’s face it: whomever stole my car probably can’t read so what would they do with these rectangular things filled with paper? Except maybe use the pages to make massive blunts, I guess. Crap, I hadn’t thought of that…) to please return them. I asked when I might expect a bill for these books and she said they are not going to charge me. What? Such kindness and compassion. Thank you so much. I really wasn’t expecting that at all. I love you, St Louis County Library. I want to sit in you all day every day and put all your books in a giant tower of books, in order from what I want to read most to what I want to read least. Many thanks SLCL.

Pretty good selection. The system also has a surprising number of good DVDs available for borrowing.

I haven’t found a particular branch that is impressive, but the overall network is very handy. Don’t want to spend $ 20 on «Building A Terrarium For Albino Ferrets For Dummies»? Check here. After all, your taxes are helping pay for it and the staff will be more friendly and knowledgeable than any bookstore. The Thornhill branch has a «hot titles» section with current bestsellers, due back in _SEVEN_days. No more waiting for 6 months to read the DaVinci Code. Plus, with that kind of deadline, you might actually read the damn thing.
