First time ever at Soulard’s today and not sure why it took me so long to try the place! The interior is cozy, warm & inviting. I enjoyed the décor which included several prints of historic St. Louis architecture. The patio looks really nice. I’ll be checking it out later this spring when it warms up. Today we were there for lunch. I had the roast beef sandwich with the soup of the day which was clam chowder. The chowder was pretty good. The clams were tender & flavorful. The sandwich was good, but the au jus was a bit too salty for my taste. My husband had a burger with the house salad and liked both. We had great service; our server was very friendly & attentive. We’ll be back, and next time we’ll go for dinner.

I’m not sure how this place isn’t more highly rated! Went on a Saturday night with my parents when they were in town. Ordered the NY Strip and it was cooked perfectly. We had great service throughout the meal. This is a great neighborhood spot when you don’t want to be at a bar.

I was not impressed. There special was OK for the price. But the portion were small. This place is not for everyone. Upper class of customer.

Everything was wonderful. My wife and I had the Salmon and the Pork Tenderloin. Both were perfect and delicious!

My parents wanted to come here while I was in town for the onion soup that they apparently only serve on Thursdays. The onion soup was very tasty as was my grilled chicken sandwich. My first cocktail was a melon martini that tasted like cough syrup. I sent it back and got a gin and tonic instead. It was mediocre at best.

I’m giving 3 stars because of our waitress! The food was a 2 – 2.5. We both ordered steaks rare. Hers was medium rare and mine was medium. They were very gristly! The twice baked potatoes were disappointing and were probably frozen. The toasted ravioli on bed on fried spinach was very good as were the salads! Very expensive for below average steaks and sides. Had a groupon and we will not be back. I think the fact that is was Friday and the place was almost deserted shows that this place won’t be there much longer. There are 100 restaurants in St. Louis that have better food and better pricing.

My groupon purchase brought me to this place and I’m so glad it did. The salad! Ok, so I don’t normally do bleu cheese but the crumbles with the house dressing is awesome. Very simple salad but so tasty. The atmosphere was great and the place is casual. Great combo for relaxing and enjoying some good food. Had the Salmon and it was great. The risotto was so good that I could have eaten just a plate of that. Also had the crab cakes and BBQ shrimp. It was all so tasty.

I’m so glad we got a recommendation to visit here. They have some delicious food. I agree it’s a bit overpriced. We probably wouldn’t have gone without a certificate. Service was great. Our water was very nice. The place was surprisingly dead for a sat evening though. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we left at 9pm. We ordered a little bit of everything and almost all of it was outstanding. The house salad was good with a sweet homemade dressing. Their blackened and creole seasoning is very mild but still tasty. The salmon was a bit overcooked and dry, but the scallops, peppered tenderloin, and grouper were awesome. I’m usually not impressed with scallops, but these were the best I’ve ever had and made me see why people like them so much. The peppered tenderloin was my favorite food here and my girlfriend loved the shrimp risotto. She asked if she could order a whole entrée and they said they could probably do that for us when we come back next time. The limiting factors from 5 to 4 stars were the lack of consistency on the overcooked salmon and the price.

My husband and I have been going to Soulards for many years. We had our rehearsal dinner there(on the 2nd floor). The food is excellent(I like the guinness sauce on my steak — My husband likes the cognac). Their signature house salad dressing is amazing as are their peppered beef filets and bread pudding. The service is always superb. I love their outside patio(which is a recent addition).
The reason for the 4 star and not 5 is three-fold: 1. Dinner Roll Basket: Years ago, they stopped serving hot dinner rolls in their bread baskets. What they offer now are very ordinary room-temp sliced Itailian-like bread). Nothing special about that. 2. Goodbye White Tablecloths: They no longer use white tablecloths on their tables. I liked dressing up a bit to go to Soulard’s and going to a «white tablecloth» kind of place. Completely changes the atmosphere. 3. Bar Music: Instead of jazz or something more upscale, they play pop music over the speakers… not loudly or anything like that — just changes the mood from a classy night out to ordinary night out. A bit of the specialness is gone now without the white tablecloths and music selection. Will still be going to Soulard’s, but not as much. We’ll have to find a different place for special events like birthdays and anniversaries. We’ll still go there for the great food(and service), and I’ll wear my jeans. :)

Soulard Restaurant Bar & Grill. The pork chop came in a delicious guinness sauce. The Amish Cheese Pie was super good, it was so tasty. The cheese pie had a cheesy, strawberry creamy taste that was very fresh and wholesome. I did not taste any artificial flavors at all. The service was great… I think you will be happy with the service. Very nice people. Pork chops were cooked well done like I like my pork. That guinness sauce the pork chop came in was so good… I took my buttered bread and sopped the juice awesome flavors. The house salad with their house dressing, the best salad I ever had, I should have taken a picture of that, it was so good. It had crumbled sweet blue cheese that was great with exploding flavors in my mouth. There was good parking… and I did bit have to pay. The prices may be a bit much for dinner bring about $ 100.00 for two people. Lunch is much more reasonable.

Traveled to St. Louis for 8 months and spent a lot of time here for dinner. Great wines and always consistent food. My favorite is the pork tenderloin with extra Guinness sauce(Doesn’t come this way, but they always let me have it this way!). Their house dressing is unbelievable. In fact we have had it shipped back to Delaware when I need a fix! Don’t let the outside fool you, this is a very nice establishment and offers seating outside in a veranda style environment too. We even had a larger party upstairs in their event room and were very pleased. Soulard’s is definitely worth checking out!

Me and my husband went with a groupon-we live close and used it as a reason to finally try it. I am so glad we did! It is a new favorite for sure. I had the special which was cod with a shrimp risotto and asparagus. Wow it was amazing! My husband had the peppered steak cooked medium well. He has never had a steak so tender cooked medium well. I tried it and it was melt in your mouth. Every single thing was delicious and seasoned so perfect. Nothing needed any salt or pepper. Entrees were each around $ 30 so on the pricier side for us. I think well worth it for the amazing meal we had. A great place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.

Went here on Saturday night and it was great. Great atmosphere, although the lights near our table would dim down and back up now and again. Still, didn’t ruin the mood or our experience. I had the pan seared chicken, and it was delicious! We shared a nice sweet red wine which was also delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable of the wines and beers on tap and was very helpful with helping us choose our entrees. I’ll definitely dine here again!

I was actually quite impressed with Soulard’s last night. I was a little hesitant to visit, but I am glad I did. The main reason I went is because my boyfriend had a gift certificate that be bought a few years ago(yes, he bought it back in 2010 and he clearly forgot about it until recently). When we were trying to find a place for dinner before going out for the night we decided to give it a go since it was close and we thought it would be a nice«date spot». We arrived around 5:45 and were able to be seated right away. There were a few patrons at the bar and I think 2 other tables when we arrived. The hostess showed us to our table and we were greeted immediately after wards by Matt, our server. He explained the specials for the night and offered us drinks then gave us some time to look over the menu before returning. When Matt came back to take our orders I decided to go with one of the specials; the smothered chicken(no bacon) with green beans and spinach and mushroom risotto. I also went with the house salad with the vinaigrette dressing since this came with the mean as well. I was already full just thinking about all the food was I about to consume. My boyfriend ordered the peppered black angus filet and a side of roasted potatoes and a house salad. We also each ordered a glass of wine. Matt suggested we sample the red wines before making a decision and who was I to say no!!! He brought over 2 different bottles of cabernet for us to sample which I thought was really a nice way to make sure we were happy with the selection. After we selected our wine we were brought a basket of bread, which was great because I was really getting hungry. A few minutes later Matt came over to check with my boyfriend about his order since it came with bacon and he wanted to make sure the bacon was okay for him… I was really impressed. Of course he was fine with the bacon and confirmed that it would be okay. Our salad’s were delivered moments later and looked great. I really liked the blue cheese crumbles on top and the dressing was really good. By the time I was done with my salad our entrees were delivered and they both looked great! The first bite I took was delicious and I even offered to share a bite with my date. We both agreed that it was tasty. My boyfriend agreed that his meal was great… it was cooked perfectly to order and had a great flavor. I ate about half of my meal and then decided that I would need a box because I was too full(but never too full for dessert)! Matt came over to take our plates away and he offered to box mine up for me. He went over the dessert menu and I was sold on the bread pudding! It was made with peaches and apples(no raisins) in a nice whiskey reduction. Yes please! I ate a cup of the bread pudding and shared a bite or two with my boyfriend(he’s not much of a dessert fan). Matt came over and took our gift certificate and then presented us the bill. The only reason I am rating Soulard’s a 4 instead of a 5 is because I think it is a bit overpriced. Even though my meal was delicious, I would not have thought it was a $ 26 meal! I do think the entrees are a bit overpriced. The atmosphere is a bit outdated, but it works for the space. I do think Matt deserves a 5 star review since he really did take such great care of us! I am not sure if this is a place I would visit often, but I can see this being an every now and then destination when I want to try something a bit fancier. The food was good and the service was great… I just think it was a bit pricey for the meal I consumed. It was a nice date night overall.

NOTE: I didn’t eat here. I just drank my Mardi Gras away here. With that said – great bartender! My friend and I visited the Soulard area for Mardi Gras, and when we were ready for a break from the chaos that ensued after the parade, we ducked into Soulard’s Restaurant & Bar. The staff was friendly and prompt. The prices were fair, and the drinks were great! I was surprised with how well-staffed this place was for Mardi Gras and actually how clean the placed stayed during the whole day considering the Soulard neighborhood was pretty much a raging hot mess by 3pm. I will be returning here again, and I hope I have the same bartender. He took good care of us – gave me plenty of water in between hurricanes. I will probably come back for Mardi Gras next year, and Soulard’s Restaurant & Bar is going to be my hang out. Thank you guys for making my Mardi Gras weekend great!

I’ve been to Soulard’s twice for lunch and gotten the same thing each time because I’m a vegetarian, and apparently on a menu with forty different options, you only need to have a quiche, a veggie melt and a vegetable salad to be considered vegetarian friendly. I know going into places that my options are going to be limited. That’s something I expect, it’s easier to pick from two or three items rather than forty. But if you’re going to put two or three vegetarian options on your menu… They’d better be good. My salad was good: Soulard’s house dressing is enjoyable(tons of sugar). But my quiche came out looking like a deflated mess, had a soggy crust and tasted like it had been reheated. I was entertaining the idea of the leek and mushroom soup, but after asking the kitchen the server informed me that it was made with chicken broth. If you’re vegetarian and enjoy being made to feel like a second class citizen, or that your dietary choices are unusual, at best, then come to Soulard’s. Don’t bother if you’re vegan, there’s absolutely nothing for you here. I will note that the service was fine and none of the actual staff upset me(except maybe the menu creator for their lack of insight). I will also add that I am usually not a belligerent vegetarian(see my other reviews). Also, I have yet to and do not plan to ever visit Soulard’s on my own volition.

Decided to try this place with a Living Social deal. I didn’t look at the menu before we got to the restaurant and was a little shocked at the prices of the entrees($ 23 – 30). In the grand scheme of things, the prices aren’t incredibly high, but I was expecting them to be a little lower for where it is. Having said this, the soups, salads, sandwiches are all very reasonably prices. I tried the Fired Grouper sandwich and a cup of creamy garlic soup($ 11) and everything was really good. They have a good selection for bottles of wine, but if you want just a glass, your options are a lot more restricted(5 – 6 choices total) — but they do give you a generous pour. The service was excellent, it wasn’t too noisy and the inside has an great, warm, cozy atmosphere — dim lighting, suits of armor and fireplace. I would say I’d go back for lunch, or for the fish sandwich. Pros: great grouper sandwich, amazing creamy garlic soup, good service, cozy atmosphere Cons: entrees are a little pricey

I went here for an early dinner/late lunch. The outside doesn’t look special but the inside is very cool, especially the little room with the suits of armor, which is where we sat. Our server was amazingly nice and attentive. The place is a little expensive but still a very pub-style atmosphere, I thought — although it was hard to tell since it was basically empty when I was there. I ordered the fried grouper sandwich which came with a side. I got a salad with the house vinaigrette– which is delicious and it’s no surprise they sell it by the bottle if you want to take it home. My sandwich was yummy but a little too much butter was used on the bread. My date ordered the fried calamari sandwich and he loved it. He said he still thinks about it! He got a side of lobster bisque which he said was also fantastic. It might be worth going back, it had a nice atmosphere and good choices on the menu. I would not say it is OVERpriced, just a tad pricey.

I was in town for a wedding and the rehersal dinner was held here. So we were a private party in their upstairs seating and had a decent view of downtown St Louis since it was the second floor. There wasn’t much need for décor with the backdrop of the city. I went out on a limb and ordered the pork tenderloin crusted with peppercorn and raspberry sauce… it was tender, juicy and amazing. The staff was super friendly and always had a full glass of water, wine or whatever you were drinking.
