Fantastic food, great location and a wonderfully attentive, personable staff. Even took the time to give us a few recommendations around town since we weren’t sure what to do with ourselves in the evening. Try the potato salad and the mac n’ cheese!

I don’t care how good the food is at a restaurant, if the people were not nice why would I spend my money there. Thank goodness at Sir’s the food is amazing and the people could not be nicer. I can’t wait until they start making banana pudding :)

If there is food in heaven, Sir’s is on the menu. Went for lunch yesterday for the first time and WOW! Spicy sweet(what I call) St. Louis style homemade BBQ sauce. I had the lunch special, 2 meats &2 sides plus cornbread for $ 6.99, and chose pulled chicken, spareribs, green beans and maybe the best creamy cole slaw I’ve tasted since my mom’s. All the items were VERY tasty, especially the ribs & green beans. Dipped the cornbread in the«bean juice» and instantly had visions of a springtime afternoon picnic by the stream, grass between my toes! Just awesome food! I’ll be back soon for some dry rubbed chicken, pinto beans or maybe the cabbage greens and what looks like maybe the best potato salad on the planet. The ambience is a little wacky but who cares, Sir’s cooking far outshines any critique of the silverware ;-)

After reading a few reviews on how good the food was in this place I decided to hop a cab from the St. Louis Arch over to this location. I got there right at lunch time and there were a lot of people getting take out. I decided to eat in and they had the lunch special going on at that time. 2 meats/2 Sides for $ 6.99. I was disappointed that they only had cabbage, baked beans green beans, and corn for the sides at the time. WHAT no MAC&CHEESE! I got the 2 ribs with corn and baked beans. The ribs were smoked very well, but the cut of rib was very fatty. The sauce was delicious and highlighted the smokey flavor very well. I enjoyed the ribs very much. No so much with the baked beans though. They didn’t have quite enough flavor for my tastes but the corn on the cob was good. This place is a little off the beaten path, About a block or two out of the main city center, but its only 3 blocks from the America’s Center. They could draw in some folks from the conferences that are happening there all the time with a little advertising. The service was very slow, but they were all very nice, so just be patient if you want some fairly good«downtown» ribs in St. Louis.

Sir’s Bar B Que is a great BBQ spot downtown. In fact, it’s one of the only BBQ spots downtown. It’s really a shame that they don’t get nearly the kind of traffic that they should be getting. Their lunch meal buffet deal is fantastic. Just remember to bring cash. They aren’t accepting credit cards yet. That said, their food is great. Ribs are thick, juicy, and fall off the bone good. I had their chicken and wasnt a fan, but I got in at the end of the lunch period, so it had probably been out for a little bit. Their sides were fantastic. I had the mac and cheese(which was missing any broccoli mentioned by earlier reviews) which was good, as well as the Sweet Potatoes which were also great. If you’re downtown and need some good BBQ. Sir’s is the place to go.

I can be an asshole at times, but I’m not above admitting it(well, most of the time). I owe Sir’s a massive apology, because today the beautiful wife and I visited them for lunch and were duly impressed. For lunch, there’s a $ 6.99 pseudo-buffet. — you go up to a buffet and tell the person what you want. You get two pieces of meal(they always have ribs, the other option was chicken today), two sides(today’s offerings were cabbage, green beans, potato salad, and a Alfredo-esque mac & cheese), and a piece of cornbread. Holy smokes(no pun intended), this was a massive quantity of food — it could have almost been split between us. First off, this was our first official foray into St. Louis style ribs. These aren’t Pappy’s, in fact, they’re just about the exact opposite — huge, fatty(in a good way), and smothered in sauce. I was impressed(though admittedly, nothing comes close to my love for Pappy’s and their dry ribs). Second, the sides — I went with the cabbage and potato salad. I’m not sure what made me want to get cabbage, but it was tasty. But the potato salad, holy crap. I’ll let the wife praise it properly in her eventual review, but it was fantastic. Third, at the recommendation of the woman serving us, we both got sweet tea. Now normally, I hate sweet tea, but this was really good — it wasn’t overly sweet, just flavorful. She also mentioned to us that they’re planning on having big Sunday dinner offerings(such fried chicken and collard greens) and eventually to add breakfast as well. For most of our visit, we were the only people there — a couple more people came in, either to sit down and eat or get take out. It’s sad because it should be packed, especially for the quantity and quality of the food. I hope that Downtown residents and employees patronize Sir’s so they have a chance to succeed.

Great food very very friendly service. It is a small restaurant but the hospitable owners makes you feel very welcome. We had a large party(5 adults and 4 kids) and were the only ones in the restaurant. They were out of many of the menu items but what we had was fantastic. We had the classics ribs, pulled pork, hamburgers, green beans, macaronni & cheese, honey baked beans, and red beans & rice. The sauce on all ribs and pulled pork was amazing. The sauce on the pulled pork had a slight kick of spice, but excellent as we like spicy foods. Our kids especially loved mac & cheese, and they are experts on mac & cheese. They were out of the chicken, and was nice enough to offer us hamburgers on the house for the kids. I am surprised they are not more busy. Their great food and friendly servie made up for their slow service. We will definately go back when we are in town again. They mentioned they were moving to a bigger location, so hopefully they get a following.

This place is soooo cute. For the lady and for the food, I really like it. Just a reminder though? Don’t come when you’re in a rush. Décor: It’s a small shop on the corner of the street. Sadly, like my bf said, it doesn’t get the business of the Loop even though it’s just past it. But otherwise, it’s comfortable, nice and clean. I came on a weekday afternoon and there were like 2 customers apart from us(who were literally gobbling up their bbq and lickin’ their fingers, which got us excited, haha!) Service: veryveryveryveryveryveryvery… very slow. Like I said, don’t come when you’re in a rush! There is essentially one waitress, and while that woman is absolutely wonderful, good-hearted and polite… I don’t understand how it takes like 30 mins to get our menu and waters out… I mean, my bf and I had a nice talk and were patient, so we weren’t mad. But still… 30 mins?! Food: — Tri– Tip Sandwich: yummmm. Some parts were a bit burnt, but the majority was really really good. A bit dry, I thought though. — Smoked Chicken: my bf had this. and OMGITWASSOGOOODDD. It had this intrinsic smoky flavor as if chicken is SUPPOSED to be smoked at ALLTIMES! And it wasn’t that dry! The size may say«½ chicken», but that«½ chicken» is nice enough to fill up a nice-sized tummy!!! — Sides: Mac&Cheese(okay) and Corn(also okay. Just buttered…) and the bread(I’m a carb-lover) was DELISH!!! Butter&toast that up for me, baby! Bottom Line: This place doesn’t get enough business that it deserves for its CHEAP food, so come and try it out! Just remember, to not be in a hurrry…

I LOVE this place. It’s my favorite restaurant in St. Louis, and in fact I joined Unilocal just so I could review it &(I hope) send some business their way; Sir-B-Que is about a block and a half east of the Metrolink, but that block and a half seems to be enough to ensure that they get almost no foot traffic from the Loop. Anyway, the food is really, really good: tastier than anything else on Delmar, in my opinion, and I’m astonished that one of the other reviewers complained about the portions! My wife and I, both hearty eaters, ordered the $ 20 rack of ribs tonight, and we couldn’t finish it. And the woman who runs Sir-B-Que, Esther, is a total sweetheart. Tonight she gave us a nice big helping of peach cobbler on the house, because it was all the cobbler she had left, and she didn’t feel that it was enough to sell as a serving. The food’s also a great deal. For example, the pulled pork sandwich is $ 8, arrives in a very generous portion, and comes with a side — potato salad, mac & cheese, red beans & rice, etc … it’s all yummy. The pulled pork sandwich comes heaped with onions & peppers. I do agree with other reviewers about the service being pokey, but it seems to me that that’s because Sir-B-Que is a mom-and-pop operation — they’re often empty or almost-empty, and I doubt that they have a lot of food sitting around the burner. My wife and I usually have to wait about 20 or 30 minutes for our dinner, which doesn’t bother us at all. But if it bothers you, I’m sure you can call in your order ahead of time. Anyway, I hope you’ll give them a try & spread the gospel. They’re good people serving good food. They seem to mostly be open for dinners, Tuesday through Sunday.

Recently visited with some buddies for a late lunch/early dinner. Still only one guy running the show. On a saturday that is frustrating as Hell. Great food, but honestly, the guy’s kindness can only go so far when you wait for over an hour and a half for food accompanied with no drink refills. The food is delicous, but like I said, the service is spotty with the lack of additional manpower. I still recommend as long as you do not have any where else you need to be.

I remember this place opening up about 2 years ago at Delmar and Hamilton. I went in there around that time and had what I think was their rip tip dinner. I remember being disappointed at how small the dinner seemed to be, and nothing about the taste of anything particularly blew me away either. A few months later I saw that one of their windows on the Hamilton side had been busted into. At the time I chuckled at the thought of the perpetrators being disgruntled customers seeking retaliation over the small servings. Finding good BBQ in St. Louis can indeed be difficult. I second what a previous reviewer said about St. Louis being a backyard-BBQ type of town. St. Louisans do indeed love their BBQ, but we tend to grill it ourselves, in our backyards. It’s almost kind of a bad thing that Sir-B-Que is my 2nd favorite place to get BBQ in StL. I mean, it really shouldn’t be when I think about it. Yes, the ribs were good, but they weren’t so good that I couldn’t actually imagine them being 2nd best of any city. As I think of all of the best BBQ I’ve ever had in St. Louis I am reminded of the fact that all of the best barbeque I’ve had in this town was actually that which was grilled in St. Louisans backyards. Not at Sir-B-Que, or even at Pappy’s. Despite this, Sir-B-Que is still a place that I’m rooting for, For one it’s on Delmar east of the Metro station(I think Delmar & Hamilton and that strecth of Delmar will be booming in the coming years). And also I can’t ignore the fact that this place has been broken into twice over the past year, but the place keeps opening back up.

On my recent trip back to St. Louis, a popped in to Sir-B-Que for dinner one evening with friends. The place seemed to be doing a brisk carry-out business, but we were the only table dining in(the only other occupied table was a guy trying to promote his Ponzi-esque juice-buying scheme… questionable…). Anyway, they were out of ribs and their fryer was broken, so already my hopes were somewhat dashed. I opted for the rib tips sandwich(go figure — no ribs, yet rib tips), and my dining companions got the ½ chicken and the pork steak. The rib tips and pork steak came out smothered in BBQ sauce, which I didn’t mind, but some people might. We all enjoyed our meals and pretty much picked our plates clean. Sir-B-Que is worth a visit, but I might try it earlier in the day next time…

When you move to a new city, it takes a little while to get your bearings. You find a supermarket. You find a barber. You find a guy who can stare at the leak in the basement, nod, and say, «Oh, that’s not good.» And once that’s all done — the pantry is stocked, the hair is cut, the cellar is as dry as it’s going to get — it’s time to kick back and enjoy some barbeque. Now, if you’re new to St. Louis, you expect that finding a decent BBQ spot is going to be easy. After all, everyone knows about Kansas City barbeque… and everyone knows about Memphis BBQ… and Saint Louis is in that sweet spot vaguely between the two, so there should be enough great Q joints to choke a pig, right? Right? Well, maybe not. Seems that St. Louis is a grill-your-own town. Everyone has a huge Weber in the back yard(and often a smoker right next to it) and every supermarket’s BBQ sauce section has 4 times as many choices as any place you’ve ever seen before. And I’m not sure if this is cause or effect or coincidence, but the barbeque restaurant landscape is surprisingly rocky. Closed-down places like Mama’s Coal Pot. Marginal-to-lousy joints like Smokin’ Al’s and the Plush Pig. So it was a hugely welcome surprise to find Sir-B-Que down on Delmar. The ribs are *extremely* good, the pork steak likewise, and the sauce is absolutely fantastic.(The sides are mediocre, but that seems to be par for the course everywhere in St. Louis.) If you ask, Sir will explain barbeque philosophy, the difference between STL-style [sweet/hot] and KC-style [smoky/hot] sauce, and anything else you’d care to ask about. At Sir-B-Que, you will get a kick-ass meal and you’ll probably fall in love with the proprietors. If Sir-B-Que were 4 blocks to the west on Delmar, it’d be a surefire hit and long-term institution. It deserves to be. But it’s on the other side of DeGiverville from the Loop proper, which means that foot traffic is limited and car traffic is snarled by the endless Metrolink Delmar bridge construction. It’s worth the extra 4 blocks.
