I wrote a review of «no,» thinking that the other reviews and that one word really cover it. Apparently that’s too short of a review to be posted. Best way to describe this experience: Every time I’ve gone here(three times total, I think), it’s like St. Louis has been threatened with a snowstorm and everyone is frantic for milk and bread. Even when it’s sunny out. Impossible to shop here. No.

If you can get pass the foul odor coming from the trash container in front of the store it might be a place I would come back too. It is not because of hot weather. Been in a lot of stores & this is the WORSE I’ve smelt I was not the only one who could not get away fast enough. CLEAN it please.

I hate this grocery store. Rarely do I write a negative review, but this place deserves it. Routinely there are long lines with few registers opened and the cashiers can be rude when you get them them. Especially rude this afternoon was the elderly woman who was monitoring the self-checkout who was yelling at customers«one at a time!» as I was leaving. I don’t care how overwhelmed you are. What kind of business allows their employees to yell at paying customers? On top of that is the unpleasant experience of trying to enter and leave this store. I’m routinely hit up by beggars in their parking lot who follow you all the way to your car. It definitely makes you feel unsafe. I had already tried to avoid this place in the past and never go back again after today. There are two Schnucks stores within a mile or so of this place. The prices are relatively similar, I’ve never witnessed rude staff, and I’ve never been followed to my car by beggars in their lots. You can see the other negative reviews, so my experiences here are clearly not isolated incidents. How this Shop n Save is still in business is beyond me.

You know, I usually don’t ever see fruit flies unless my roommate and I are playing another passive-aggressive game of «whose turn is it to take out the trash? not mine! I’m too busy!!» and we let the kitchen garbage rot for a week until one of us gives in to the smell and the fruit flies and takes the walk out to the alley dumpster. The last two times I’ve come here, there have been massive fruit fly infestations in the produce section… like everywhere and on every piece of produce. Something’s rotting. Maybe everything. Gross. Clean up your act, Shop ‘N Save.

A simple pro-con analysis on whether or not to stop at this Shop n’ Save… Pros: 1) Most of the staple consumer packaged goods companies are represented here. Clorox bleach, Kraft cheese, Uncle Ben’s rice, Campbell’s soups, Kellogg and General Mills cereals, etc. 2) For transplants from other SuperValu regions, house brands like Essential Everyday and Carlita’s are available here. 3) Prices are generally reasonable. 4) The Coupon Thursday promotion is fantastic. More on this below. Cons: 1) It’s not always that cheap. Like Walmart, it’s wise to really shop individual items because you might pay more for some things here. 2) I’ve never had a quick checkout experience when shopping off hours(usually late at night when there aren’t many patrons in the store; there’s no floating cashier… you just wait). 3) It’s a bag-your-own-groceries store. This isn’t a huge deal, but does make it less than full-service in one sense. 4) Most of the major brands are represented, but full lines aren’t usually offered. 5) The store is clean, but I don’t find its navigation to be that intuitive. Once you shop it a couple of times, it’s easier. When it comes down to it, this store caters to the neighborhood and keeps in stock most of what people go to the grocery store most often for. It’s at a convenient crossroads, offers plenty of parking and is open from 6a until midnight most of the time. Other stores offer better selection and more specialty items, better prices, or a better shopping experience. In all of those cases though, you trade something away which is where Shop n’ Save becomes a worthwhile destination… sometimes. Notes: What is Coupon Thursday and how do you do it? Who: Shoppers at Shop n’ Save, without special registration or loyalty cards What: A 20% off deal on purchases over $ 50. Spend $ 50(after coupons I believe) and get $ 10 taken off instantly in the same transaction. Most products are eligible but there are some restrictions including gift cards and liquor. Coupons and specials can usually be used in conjunction with Coupon Thursday, but the pre-Thursday deal won’t apply unless the subtotal’s above $ 50. A «perfect» use of the deal results in a total in the $ 40-range($ 50 in groceries, minus $ 10 for the deal, plus a percentage for tax). When: Some Thursdays, but not every Thursday. The circular ad mentions which days are going to be promotional, usually in the bottom right corner of the first page.

I used to work at this Shop and Save a long time ago in a galaxy far away, well that’s what it seems like when I stopped in here to pick up a couple of things for dinner. I hadn’t been in this location for quite some time, years in fact and after my last visit I am sure it’s going to be years more before I return. While I navigated around the store I kept noticing the difference in appearance it looked from the years I worked there, the store was clean however I didn’t find the employees to be that friendly nor helpful. I was able to find what I was looking for however I wasn’t expecting to stand in a line for about 15 minutes waiting to check out. there was only 3 lines open, and only one of the express self checkout’s was in operation. I did see one cashier still working there from the days when I was there however she was so over the place and looked like she had had enough, I didn’t even bother talking to her to find out how things were compared to when we worked together, because it was obvious. I tend to stay away from Shop and Saves and now after this last visit I will stay away for good and just stick to my Schnucks where know I will get treated good and have a satisfying shopping experience.

If you like your grocery shopping with a heaping side of excitement, this is the Shop ‘N Save for you. Once saw a fight in the produce section. There is a grand proliferation of people using the«hillbilly intercom» to communicate with shopping partners an isle or two away. Every once in a while you’ll get a gratis free-style rap show on the way inside. They still manage to have a great selection of booze and beer, even though they have evolving security measures that now include bottle locks. When you get to the checkout, be prepared to wait. They never have enough checkers, and the same idiots you just spent a half hour dodging with your cart are now trying to figure out the self-check. I will always shop here. It is close to home, cheap, and entertaining… and somehow LESS annoying than Trader Joe’s with their 4-to-1 employee to shopper ratio, excessive-facial-pierced tattoo-sleeved checkers, and yoga-pants-soccer-moms wandering aimlessly.

This is one of my least favorite Shop ‘N Save locations for a couple of reasons. The layout of the store and the lack of check out options. There are at least four self check out lanes, but there always seems to be at least two that are inoperable. There are also usually only a few standard lanes open during peak times, which makes for an incredible wait. The store layout as far as checking out does not work out when lines increase because of the aisle that runs perpendicular to where check out lines feed. It becomes highly congested when lines back up, which prevents any traffic flow down the aisle directly behind check out lanes. The prices are ok depending on the sales and special offers. The selections are ok but nothing to write home about. I prefer the Schnucks down the street(Hampton Village) anytime over this location simply because I can get in, purchase what I need, and be on my merry way much faster than I can when visiting this Shop ‘N Save location. The layout is also less congested and open, which makes for a more pleasursable shopping experience.

This location isn’t bad for being in the city. It is clean and the prices are nice. BUT I would not recommend going here after work. There are usually two lanes open, grandmas with two cart fulls of groceries filling the lanes, and dumb people at self checkout. I had three items the last time I went and it took me 25 minutes to just check out. I’d rather drive 25 minutes to Wal-Mart or spend more money at Schnucks. Hire some people Shop N Save!
