I live right up the block and I love shaw’s market! It’s simple, clean, and convenient. To be honest, what brings me here is their new wine and beer selection. It’s the only place in the neighborhood where you can get alcohol(I think). The owner is very sweet. They serve homemade Eritrean food from time to time– check out their fb page to find out when

Really love my neighborhood corner store. They have just about everything you might need to run to the store to pick up in a hurry, now including beer(from UCBC, Schlafly, and AB). Definitely make a special effort to stop by on Wednesdays for Eritrean dinner — only $ 8 and really really good! Little tags mark out the healthier choices in the store and they always have some fresh fruit and vegetables around as well as the typical nonperishable corner store fare. They’re also really invested in the community, as you can see through their posters reminding customers of the unjust death of Vonderrit Myers. Also, the address on Unilocal isn’t right — Shaw Market is on the SW corner of Shaw and Klemm in the Shaw neighborhood. 4200 Shaw Blvd, not Ave.

This store has been renovated recently and it’s shiny new storefront first caught my attention. It had always been kind of dumpy, just a block from the Gardens. The new owners are really sweet and host Eritrean Wednesdays! We love the food, available for $ 8 a plate. Don’t be shy asking for details about the cuisine(like Ethiopian, served with injera). They even occasionally do a traditional coffee ceremony! Aside from the delish food, they also have all the necessities you’d expect from a corner store.
