I moved to the neighborhood about six months ago and I’ve been wanting to check this place out. Today was beautiful out so my wife and I decided to check it out. One of the employees was outside with a grill and said that he was just finishing up some ribs. He had me at ribs… Generous portion, two huge sides of slaw and potato salad for 9 bucks! Oh, they were delicious. My wife had a sandwich that was also very tasty. Good selection on beer too in the store. Will definitely be back, great local place!

This is a perfect deli – fresh meat(they have Boar’s Head so the quality is excellent) and a wide variety of cheese. All of the sandwich options are excellent and you also have the option to build your own. My personal favorite is the Blackened Turkey which is spicy! Perfect when accompanied with a cold drink and a bag of drinks. Shapiro’s Market also serves as a small grocery store, just to name a few of the things you can get: beer, fruit, cookie dough, canned goods, hummus… random but my office has loved the occasional cookies that have resulted! They also offer some frozen foods like burritos, Amy’s meals, pizzas. Located close to the Basilica, it’s an easy walk from workplace. The owner is friendly and welcomes input on new menu items & grocery items. Also when the weather is warm he likes to fire up the grill & make some pork steak that is absolutely to die for! Always ask about the day’s special, sometimes there is an extra special that isn’t on the board.

A nice little convenient shop and deli in Central West End. My wife dropped by for lunch since we were in the area and wanted something that was quick and inexpensive. I really didn’t know what to expect. When I walked in, I was greeted by a cheerful clerk behind the register and a couple of aisles of the typical convenient store fair. The deli was located at the back of the store. There were about 10 different sandwiches that they made, all of which used Boar’s Head products. The deli lady, who was also very nice, took our order. I had the reuben and my wife had some other sandwich, which escapes my mind at the moment. Both our sandwiches were pretty standard. I did like that it was a convenient store though, so I was able to choose from a variety of different side(chips) options. Seems like a cool neighborhood convenient store. I think a lot of locals frequent this place.

Pretty nice and convenient little shop. Sandwiches are decently priced and freshly made with a detectable degree of care. I would recommend getting one of the options with house prepared meat as opposed to Boar’s head if available, but all options are pretty decent. Nice selection of beers and some fruit as well.

Love love love this place! Wondered in one day to look for lunch and realized they sell awesome meats and cheeses, everything is very well priced and they have a ton of drink and beer options! Oh and the owner is super awesome too! Definitely worth stopping in!

Although they serve Boar’s Head deli meat their«cook» has a poor attitude. She was very rude and appeared to be irritated. Someone I wouldn’t want to see ever again. My sandwich was mediocre, but the owner was super friendly, the store was clean and they had plenty of drink options! I’d go back if she wasn’t the face of the deli.

Much more than your average mini market. There’s real ambition and creativity at the sandwich counter, including always dazzling off-menu barbecue options they’re happy to tell you about if you ask, and all for a very reasonable price. A real gem.

This place is a real gem. They focus on quality instead of quantity. They use Boar’s Head brand in their deli and have outstanding sandwiches as a result. The best part is their craft beer selection. It is somewhat small due to limited available space but the beer buyer here knows beers and they have top notch craft brews that rotate in selection. Highly recommend this place.

Shapiros is a great little market in the CWE. The staff is always super friendly and the meats offered are always top notch. While they may not have as many options as larger markets they have a great selection of snacks, chips, meats, and craft beers — pretty much everything you’d need for a day at the park. Which, coincidentally, Shapiros is very close to Forest Park. They also have an awesome sandwich shop that uses Boar’s Head meats and cheeses. The«ultimate gyros» they have are probably my favorite. Loaded high with meat(from a skillet rather than spit) and anything else you’d want, including sriracha.

Wasn’t too impressed with this market(as the prices are fairly high on most items) UNTIL I found out that they serve and sell Boar’s Head deli meats. No more going all the way to the Schnucks on Manchester to get deli meat, for me! Thank you Shapiros!

This place is the best! They’ve got a deli in the back stocked with boar’s head products, and use other top’o the line ingredients. The guys in there remember your name if they see you once or twice, and always greet you with a smile and a story. Bar none one of the best convince stores/delis I’ve ever been to. Keep up the great work guys, you’re absolutely loved by you community.

Great place for a quick lunch. They use Boar’s Head meat/cheese for their sandwiches which is nice. Sandwiches were great, drink selection is nice, and they have a bunch of other convenience store products if you need them.

Shapiro’s Market offers the best sandwiches in town made with Boars Head products. Shapiro’s also offers the best variety of beer for any convenience store in the Central West End. In addition, the manager barbecues almost every day and let me tell you, he is a Grill Master. I highly recommend anyone living or visiting the area to stop by Shapiro’s Market :-)

I am shocked, shocked this place wasnt discovered until today. There is a sensible, market located in a safe area of the CWE. The small shop has a great deli in the back for freshly made sandwiches at lunch. Two brothers made our meals and were very friendly with suggestions and service. There looked to be a wonderful beer selection, not just the Inbev imports. They also make their own all assortment of BBQ right there in front of the store. I’ll be back here for sure and hope to be a regular. They said the location has been open for 65 years! Dont think they’ll go anywhere soon. Three sandwiches and a Coke ran me about $ 18. Large sandwiches too.

Sandwiches here are great. Their bread is soft and chewy and they have some great meat, cheese, flavor combinations. I’m always happy after I’ve picked up a sandwich here and they are a good price too. My only wish was that they had a little bit more sandwich/topping combinations: some grilled vegetables, different sauces, more cheeses, option for wraps, etc. could be fun. I’m from the land of delis in New Jersey so i came with big expectations. So far Shapiro’s Market is the closest to satisfying my taste buds. Plus, they often are grilling meats, too. St. Louis needs more corner deli/markets/convenience stores like this.

Tiny market on Newstead in the CWE. They have a deli at the back and serve Boar’s Head meat, and the sandwiches are pretty good. Other Unilocalers have raved about the BBQ, but I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t speak on its behalf. They have a few essentials but not a great selection of anything, including beer — fine if you want Bud Light of Budweiser, but they don’t seem to stock much else. I don’t necessarily know if I’d go back, but mainly because Straub’s is relatively close and I’d pick that for lunch. Pros: sandwiches are pretty good Cons: not a great selection of beer, or really of much else

If you live in the area and haven’t been over to Shapiros yet, you are missing out. It is your typical local market but has a couple of great additions: 1. The sandwiches at the deli are amazing and if you are not in the mood for a sandwich, they have daily specials that usually include some type of BBQ. Best part of it all, it is cheap! 2. They have a surprisingly good beer selection for such a small place. All of the regualr domestics come in 16 ounce cans(who wouldn’t want that!) and there is also a selection of craft beer in a seperate cooler. 3. The staff there is really nice and will keep you coming back for more.
