Went for lunch with a vegetarian friend! I had an outstanding chicken curry with plantains and fried rice. She had a veggie lunch that she throughly enjoyed. The atmosphere was quite and delightful, a great place for conversation. The owners were charming, answered all our questions about the food and prepared the curry with just the right amount of spice. The veggies and rice were perfectly seasoned. I’m looking forward to my next visit!

This place is yummy. We got the buffet and really enjoyed the goat and beef curry. The fried rice is awesome too. Highly recommend this place!

Just visited this place for the first time and it was spectacular. Our server was very polite and gave us a short history of the restaurant and answered any questions we had. I ordered goat curry and my parents ordered chicken curry and a tilapia filet. It was all awesome. We did have to wait for our food for about an hour or so but they brought out samosas on the house and at the end of our meal we also received African donuts on the house. The donuts were especially good! I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be headed back again soon.

I am starting this review as I sit down, I am given my menu and told if I had any questions just ask. I order the deep fried fillet and my friend orders the curry. Our waiter has forgotten our sides even though he wrote it down on a notepad. No flak given to the young gentlemen, just a bit unnerving. Hi, I’m the loser who is eating with Nikita. The waiter is very nice when asking for refills. Instead of most barbaric restaurants where the waiters arrive at your table ready to fill your glass and you must humbly refuse because you want to fucking eat your ice but they either fill it with a shit ton of water anyway or leave making you feel guilty by refusing their fucking offer and leaving like assholes, the waiter just asks politely and leaves. He’s very kind. I find him handsome. As I get back my phone I must compliment the serene atmosphere. The waiters whisper, no traffic is heard through the windows, or machines in the kitchen. All I hear is my food sizzling. My dish comes out looking like something grandma would make. The rice is fine but uses curry powder. Everything is heavily salted which I love and the vegetables are spiced to perfection. Now to my friend. Hey it’s me again hi. Everything was good and I don’t have the bored desire to type stupid shit. Do yourself a favor and try this place, even if just for the curry. I must agree with my friend that this place is the bomb and right now my favorite spot on olive blvd. 4⁄5

We decided to try a new restaurant, because our initial choice was closed. First, I will say, I am giving Olive Green at least 2 stars, because my food was good. I had the chicken curry with fried rice, vegetables, and fried plantains, and all were flavorful, and presented well. Unfortunately, the food was not outstanding enough to make up for the other major shortcomings of their service. We were the only patrons in the restaurant when we arrived around 7:30pm. We were given water and menus, but it took quite a while to get our order in. The cola was brought out with no syrup in it. No big deal. She brought cans of Pepsi, because she didn’t know how to replace the syrup in the fountain. We got samosas for an appetizer. They were good, but cold. We then waited, and waited, and waited. No one came out to explain what was taking so long, apologize for the wait, or top off our water and sodas. I guessed the waitress was also cooking the food. Another patron came in, and a different waitress appeared and took his order. He was served fairly promptly, despite the fact we still hadn’t received our food. We did finally receive our food, shortly after that. As I said, it was good, but it was after 9pm by the time it arrived. The staff was cordial, but there was never any sort of apology or explanation for the slow service, despite us being the only customers there, except the one gentleman who got served before us. The bill came, and we were actually charged more for the soda that was in cans than the one that came from the fountain, and there was an extra samosa on the bill. We did bring it to her attention, but rather than having her change the bill, I opted to just pay it, because I didn’t know how long it would take for her to come back, and we were beyond ready to leave. I don’t see Olive Green lasting very long if this is how they continue to operate. We won’t be back.

Delicious food. I went there for lunch and I enjoyed every dish on the buffet. It was a little slow service but I wasn’t there for fast food. The outside is uninspiring. However I enjoyed the food options and the staff are extremely friendly. I love the samosas, fried rice, chicken curry and the spicy cabbage.

Absolutely loved this place. We stopped in on a Saturday, so the buffet wasn’t out, so instead they brought us out each item that would normally be on the buffet as they finished making it, and each dish was better than the last. There was a little wait at the beginning, but it was worth the wait. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be returning.

Great food and a great atmosphere. Owner was friendly and helpful, and spent time telling us about his business and style of cooking. The food was fresh and hot, and the tastes were delicious. I definitely recommend going in for the lunch buffet and trying everything they have!

Great for good food that is a bit different in a quiet, friendly atmosphere. Food is individually prepared, so good for leisurely dining; or else go with the buffet. Very good value. We had tilapia with plantain and salad, with beef samosas for starters. The samosas are very flavorful, very large and very inexpensive. We were served mandazi bread, an African item, freshly baked, with a bit of sweetness to the doughy interior. The other items arrived nicely presented on a platter. The tilapia was baked, very moist and flaky, with a nice marinade on the exterior, and sautéed slivers of green peppers and onions atop. The salad was ample, very fresh and attractive, containing small tomato and avocado slices and onions. The dressing was mildly spiced, with some black pepper. The plantain slices were good, but so many of them I could not quite finish. Service friendly and helpful.

Tried the buffet. They had rice, chicken curry, beef and lamb dishes. They were okay. Will order off the menu next time. The pictures on the menu look great. This was the first time that we tried Ugandan food.

Food was good, a bit salty for the chicken and steak dishes. The fried rice has curry flavor it was ok, but a bit salty. The service took too long, maybe offering stews and things that could be cooked faster might be a better option. The samosas are good. Better to order take out over the phone.

Dropped in for the lunch buffet on a whim. It was a great choice! The food was delicious, the proprietors very friendly and welcoming, and the service excellent. The fried rice and the chicken curry were highlights of the meal. I’d never had Ugandan food before. It seems to be a real melting pot of African, European, Middle Eastern, and Indian influences. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Came for the lunch buffet. The food was all delicious and was a good mix of meats, salad, veggies, and rices. The proprietor was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. Will definitely be back.

I was really excited about this restaurant. I mean. Ugandan food in St Louis!!! It was going to be very difficult to disappoint me. So I decided to scope this place out with a couple friends, in preparation for setting up a 30 person meetup. We get in, at 7pm, and the restaurant is empty, besides a person that is trying to pay their bill. We’re seated, and handed menus. I note the mismatched silverware and dishes. I think that’s great. It really really amuses me when places don’t take themselves too seriously, and are making the best of a limited budget. A+ on the tableware. My friends ask about a couple of the dishes, and the waitress informs us that it is her first day, and that she only knows what a few of the dishes are. That’s fine, she tries… she goes to the back and asks the cooks what certain things are… she gives us a sample of one thing she can’t describe. Cool, great, B+ on the service. It’s 7:15pm, and we’re ready to order. The ordering goes pretty well, our options were clearly laid out for us. Again, good service. It’s 7:30pm, and she gets us free tea. She doesn’t really explain why we’re getting free tea… but it’s nice. We thought maybe because the restaurant has been around for less than a month, they wanted us to try things or something. Great. Amenities, A+ It’s 8:00pm. The waitress shows up to top off our waters. No mention of the food. But it’s a new restaurant, I tried to be patient. It’s 8:30pm. My friend gives a destitute sigh and a knowing look. «Jon,» he says, very seriously, «I’m going to starve to death.» 8:45pm. Two of our dishes were delivered to the table. She calls them both«Goat Stew.» Hm… only one of us got Goat Stew, «Oh, actually Goat Stew and Goat Curry are the exact same thing.» Interesting, I note… as the Goat Stew costs 9.99 and the Goat Curry costs $ 11.99. It’s 8:50pm. My dish is delivered. It doesn’t LOOK like a curried fish filet… but I may be uneducated. It was more like mushed up fish and curry. Had a few bones in it. Oh well, it was tasty. Not very ‘hot’, but tasty. It’s 9:03pm. The last dish is served. Chicken Curry. It looked like I expected it to. We eat. The couple we’re with were underwhelmed. I liked mine a lot, but not«wait over an hour for it» a lot. I mention I’d probably do carry out next time. It’s 9:20pm, and the manager comes out and apologizes for«taking forever.» No mention of WHY(I would have accepted: «your goat was literally alive 2 hours ago, we had to slaughter, boil, and season it.» I may have also accepted«We had it all ready, but our cook was stoned and dropped it all… and then ate it.»). But uh… nice gesture. In the end, it took waaaay too long for food that was just«pretty good». I might come back for the buffet. My friends have all but disowned me, and my girlfriend may remain«hangry» for the rest of time. Hopefully they have a good«Lunch for one.» :(

Wow! Definitely worth a visit! In U city — will have delivery — reasonable prices A small, family owned restaurant in plaza that you might overlook — but don’t! Super friendly service from the owner and her family, really delicious food with generous portions at very affordable prices — and if you want a little heat, they had a dropper bottle of sizzling yellow pepper hot sauce that my husband adored. I had the goat stew(tender and flavorful) with flat bread(perfect for the stew) and plantains(sweet and delicious) and my husband had a chicken dish(he liked it, but he kept snagging my goat stew so I think that is what he will get next time) with fried rice(that he loved!) They make everything when you order, so be prepared for actual cooking times — but they kept our drinks full and our appetizer came out reasonably quickly — so we were happy.(We had 3 yummy savory patties with drizzled side salad that worked well together — called a beef kebab on the menu, though different then what i expected for the name kebab, it was very good0 They are going to have a lunch buffet during the week and some extended lunch and dinner buffet hours on Sunday I believe — we are going to go back when we can to the buffet to sample a variety of dishes when we get a chance. Also I saw a picture of the Belgian with ice cream and syrup — looks really good! And nope, I don’t work there, I was just that happy with the food!
