I was DJing a wedding there and was there to set up several hours before the event. I had emailed inquiring that we have the correct hook-ups(2 ¼″ aux cable inputs) in to the sound system a month prior. But day of the only thing that he could accommodate was RCA, and only had RCA cables that were 3 ft. long, and would not let me near the booth to be close enough to set up. When the reception finally did roll around I queued up music and asked the owner to turn on the system: He refused and stated he wasn’t going to do anything until he was paid. Despite the wedding party having been in the space early in the day setting up, as well as an hour before the crowd showed up… The owner decided not to bring this up until during the event, and made a scene about it. Once he did turn on the system he walked away before we could get proper levels set, and went to help his understaffed bar serve up drinks. During the dancing his lighting effect was random strobe lights: very strange. I guess you get what you pay for? I’m sure it was a bargain.

Pros: This place is a great value. For very little money, you can throw a rocking party. The«bring your own everything» style lets you do whatever you want and create exactly the type of event you envision. We wanted to recreate the«Enchantment Under the Sea» dance from Back to the Future, and were able to convey the vibe we wanted through decorations, snacks, the bar, and the music. If you really want to create a customized event on a budget, this place is perfect. Cons: The owner doesn’t do email, and you’re forced to rely on playing phone tag to try and get anything done. This is a really inefficient way to do business, especially if you’re someone who works a typical 9 – 5 job and has trouble getting away from your desk to conduct personal business. Additionally, the owner was a bit inflexible and slow moving the day of our event as we arrived to decorate and as the party got going. It was a bit like pulling teeth to get extra tables set up and things. Overall, I can’t say too many negative things, because for the cheap price it’s worth putting up with a few difficulties hear and there. I’d definitely look into this place if I were you!

What started out as a party for our twentieth anniversary turned into a(still NOTLEGAL) wedding. Where, oh where to host a fantastic bash afterward that would cost us our mortgage money? We stumbled upon Occasions during an internet search. Now, this place is not for everyone. It’s got a VERY kitsch feel to it. The outside of the place is shaped like a castle, for god’s sake. Inside, it’s a mini German beer hall, more suited to a Knights of Columbus bingo night than a wedding reception. But, for a very reasonable fee(and I do mean reasonable), you get tables and a bartender and a DJ and an awesome light and sound system and clean-up. Spend your money on decorations to make this place look festive. Supply your own food and liquor, let Ernie spin some tunes(we just had him hook our iPod), and throw down.
