My go to spot for tremendous coffee in the CWE. It’s always appreciated when you find someone who cares passionately about coffee and Northwest Coffee delivers in this regard. Awesome and friendly service every time. Can’t go wrong with any drink.

This coffee shop/coffee roaster is a great place for your morning stop. They have the roster in the back and you see the whole process in front of you. They also have an open patio with a fire going and it’s nice to hang out at. The place is a bit open, probably because they need the air flow for roasting, and can get chilly in cold days.

I live super close to this place so even though I could just as easily walk back after dropping my car off for a car wash at elite detailing, I like to grab a cup of tea and study here while I wait. I’m not a coffee drinker so I can’t comment on that, but their tea is pretty decent. Nothing noteworthy but not bad either. The place itself is unique and has a charming vibe that makes me feel like I’m in California. Any time I feel transported back home is a welcome feeling. The employees are generally friendly and some of the people watching can be interesting. I’ve witnessed a couple of job interviews happening here, which was entertaining.

Coffee is decent. I’ve been here a couple times. Definitely expensive. If it wasn’t so close I would never go there. If I’m going to pay 2 or 3 dollars for a small black coffee it better be good. As far as coffee goes Kaldi’s is king in St Louis

Awesome place to sit and drink some of the BEST coffee in St Louis. Food options are limited, but the cups of joe are strong, full flavored, and will have you jittering. Love this place!

Great little coffee joint where you can see there bean… Machines? I don’t know. They make their beans on house, which is neat, and the coffee is great. Smoothies are tasty and they’ve got a nice variety too. customer service great and friendly. Definitely stop by. Plenty of parking in a quieter area of the city.

Great green chai latte! The baristas are always friendly and I love the super laid back atmosphere. We came on a Sunday afternoon and they didn’t even push us out even though I realized it was past closing time. Thanks for opening @ 6:30 weekdays so I can properly caffeinated at 7 for work.

Very cool venue especially when they open the wall. Plenty of outdoor seating and a lot of it is under cover. They roast their beans at this location so if you don’t like that smell(not many do) then sitting inside may be a bit much for you. The trade-off is that you always get really fresh and great tasting coffee for a very fair price. Best coffee in the Central West End, among the best in the city.

I have been coming almost 4 years as I am a caffeine addict and lived in CWE when I first moved to STL. First, the fire pit is gone :(apparently neighbors complained. The location is in a unsuspecting spot really not within walking distance to anything of mention. The facility is like an unfinished art project. The coffee is amazing. This location roasts its own coffee early in the morning I believe 3 times a week. They have 5 – 6 different roasts they change out daily and each are great my personal favorites are colombian and ethiopian. Service is always pleasant and friendly. I generally avoid the specialty drinks, but when I had friends over and ordered them there were no issues. Finally, the wifi connection is wwaaaayyy better than café ventana, which is why I prefer to study here.

You see the sign but the building sits 50 feet back from the road with a gravel front yard. I just needed a quick cup of coffee before I set out to show property all day. I saw people ahead of me using their own to-go cups so I offered up mine and he even rinsed it out before filling it with very good coffee. They also sell Companion Bakery items which I wondered if they were the day-old items as their poppy seed bread was a tad dry. Great neighborhood!

Coffee served WAY too hot, so be careful not to burn your tounge which will hinder the remainder of your taste bud experience. 5min later was still undrinkable. The coffee it’s self once cooled down was reasonable, but in saying that I was in a bit of a bad mood given I waited so long and burnt my tounge in the process before being able to somewhat enjoy. Other than the temperature, ambience was going for a quaint vintage look, but couldn’t quite pull it off. I think was more whatever was cheap as my table top wobbled seperate to the base. Better than Starbucks.

Service: Came here with a friend for a cup of cappuccino today(Jan 17). Told the barista that we are having our drinks at the café. So when I got my drink he gave it in a to go club and said«sorry, we don’t have any large cups». I said its perfectly fine. But I thought it was odd because after all its a café and it should have cups for what they serve. Then I saw at least fifteen coffee cups of all sizes on the expresso machine. I am not clear of his intention but my best guess is that he just didn’t want to be bothered with cleaning up the coffee cups assuming he is the one doing it since he was only one working at the store when we were there. Cappuccino: I can say from my experience that this cappuccino was one of the worst I have had in a long time. I cappuccino from Starbucks would probably taste better than here and cheaper too. Food: They had no bakery products left, I came around 4:30pm and they close at 6pm so it is entirely possible that they ran out of food. So I don’t have any comments on that side. Vibe: Its very crude. It seemed like they were roasters who had some extra space so decided to put some tables and chairs. They have a great outside space that has good potential. So if the whether is good, outside is definitely the better spot. I came here entirely because of the great Unilocal rating they have. I am disappointed.

The BEST chai I have ever had. They make their own spice mix, and it’s basically magical. The location is on a quiet part of Laclede. They have a great patio with ample seating and a firepit. The only thing I don’t like about Northwest is their hours. Stay open longer guys! (By the way, check out the cwe location over the Clayton one. Much better ambience)

Biked over to check it out based on the reviews. As I wheeled up, I was stoked because I love coffeehouses with character and this one has it. A very large courtyard/patio that’s both a mess and charming, and the actual roaster/café inside matches up perfectly. Enthusiastic and quick service, and the small cappuccino was exceptionally large. Unfortunately, something might’ve been up with the milk because the drink was a bit foul. Disappointing given my raised expectations, but they certainly deserve a second chance

Checked them out on a caffeine crawl a few weeks back. The head roaster’s expertise on coffee was exceeded only by his legendary beard. This thing was mesmerizing. Only had the coffee, but the food I saw scattered about looked tasty. Open, airy atmosphere.

I spent an entire Saturday afternoon sitting by the fire pit outside, in a chair in the rocks, reading my book and watching people play with little bells hanging on strings. This place is converted from an old garage and about as cozy as a coffee shop can get. My only issue was my drink. I got(some sort of) hot mocha and it was a hot mess. There were also all sorts of loose chocolate bits in the drink and the latte art didn’t turn out at all. As I am not a hardcore coffee-drinker/lover, this did not dampen my mood. It is easy to miss the entrance. I drove right by it twice before realizing it’s RIGHTNEXT to the car repair/tire business at that corner.

Having had the unfortunate experience of living in Seattle and experiencing their coffee culture(that’s right, I just hated on Seattle. Deal with it.), this place astonished me. Like, in some ways it totally reminded me of Seattle, yet something was missing. Oh yeah, douchiness. Like, it was the Pacific Northwest without the elitism and passive aggressive snobbery. Ohhhhh St. Louis. You make me so proud. Way to stomp Seattle in coffee. I love this place because it isn’t fancy. It’s kind of in a garage. There’s nothing fancy about a garage. So I could totally be myself here. Which sucks for everyone else, but is awesome for me. PERFECT for a fall day. Their outdoor patio thing is so shabby chic. They have a fire pit for chilly days, lots of comfy chairs which only bent slightly beneath my girth, and lots of «art». Their inside was cramped and not ideal for deep conversations. Their bakery case was so pathetic it made me sad. How much business are they losing out on by not providing snacks? At least throw some Twinkies in there, Northwest. Make an effort. Billy Goat chips. SOMETHING. My other wish list item would be some cayenne pepper for a Mexican mocha. Am I the only person who craves these? It’s a thing, I swear. I’m probably a douche for liking them, but anyone who drinks a coffee drink that isn’t just straight coffee is a douche if you ask me, so whatever. EXCELLENT and friendly, smiling service. Plenty of street parking. I’m gonna come back here. A lot. This is the only thing in the Central West End that I’ve ever loved.

Hmm, I recently found out that the owner of Chronicle Coffee bought Northwest Roasting Company before opening up Chronicle. I might be slow, but I am connecting some dots in my head!!! I recently wrote a review on Chronicle and even though the store was perfectly quaint, I could only give them 3 stars due to an off taste in my latte. It was almost a déjà vu from another drink I had a few months prior at Northwest Roasting Company. It all makes sense now, the drinks had the same flaw because it’s the same beans and people behind the scene! While Northwest is a super cute place with an awesome ambiance going on, the coffee I got just wasn’t that good. I came here while the weather was still nice and I got an iced latte. It was refreshing, but it definitely had an off taste(exactly as described in my review for Chronicle Coffee). So while I will not be back to Northwest purely for coffee, I would consider come back for the awesome outside seating they have, to try some of their food offerings, or to give their coffee(maybe a hot drink) a second chance.
