Note: far as I can tell, this is a Mills Properties issue, not a Cityview Apartments issue, since it’s corporate who cuts deposit checks. This experience will not be reflected in my CityView review, since, from what I know, the actual apartment complex played little role in the matter. As explained in a prior review, Mills illegally withheld the return of my deposit. The legal deadline was 8⁄14(30 days after move-out/lease end), and I did not receive my check until today, 9/7, after being told last Thursday-ish that it was now available for pick up. It wasn’t until I wrote Mills a crappy FB review(which I said I’d take it down once I got my cash back) that ANYONE would return my phone calls or address the issue. The people at my property simply explained, «sorry, they’re not cutting checks this week» every time I called, including the week prior to the legal deadline in which I explained to them that if they didn’t make my money available by the 14th, they would be violating the law. The folks at corporate(whom I didn’t contact until the legal deadline had passed) didn’t so much as EVER answer the phone, let alone return either of my messages! 8⁄19 marked 5 days/4 mailing days past the legal deadline; had they done what they were supposed to do, I figured, I would have received my check in the mail, OR been contacted explaining it was available. Nope… nothing. In turn, I wrote my review on FB, and I had a Mills CSR contact me immediately. My property manager contacted me within 48 hours saying she had my freshly-cut check in her hands. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! To be fair, the fact that me getting the check was delayed until today wasn’t entirely their fault; what I was handed today was an envelope that had been mailed to me(100% correctly addressed) on 8⁄21 and for whatever reason, USPS marked it undeliverable. Phooey. That said, it still goes without saying that the envelope was postmarked 8⁄21 and I wasn’t allowed to pick up my check until 8⁄19(I opted to have it mailed to me instead); Mills still violated the law on that one. Now that I have my money back, and now that I know they tried to get me my money within a week past the legal deadline, I’ll kick them another star, since my experience with them otherwise has been 100% A-OK. It’s unfortunate that the tables weren’t turned and I weren’t the big bad management company demanding money from a resident; I could have made an extra $ 125 in late fees!
