The place is hip, no doubt. A few quality drafts and a nice breakfast/salad/lunch menu. Good and drinks were good! The only problem was the service. The girl behind the counter(it’s a walk-up order place) was disengaged, impersonal, and slow. On her phone texting when customers were waiting for her to make their sandwich, latte, etc. One customer sitting at the bar waited for 10 minutes without being acknowledged, grew impatient, and finally left without being served. Some customer service training would go a long way. This place could really rock! By contrast, I walked down to Urban Chestnut for a beer after lunch and those guys are awesome. Engaging, funny, and said hello before I even got thru the door!

On the day I came they weren’t offering anything but the buffet. We were meeting for a grand center tour and did not partake in anything except coffe. That was done well. As was the kambuchi which was a fermented hangover cure. I wasn’t hungover but it tasted pretty good

Magnolia Café is owned by KDHX. It’s a nice touch that the restaurant pumps in their tunes. I ordered an apple cheddar melt($ 7.00), which was GREAT. The sandwich came with chips… Billy Goat Chips, perhaps? I’m not sure who makes the chips, but they were very good. I washed the meal down with a Fitz soda and got a Whisk Bake Shop chocolate chip cookie for dessert(pretty good). The staff was nice. They were a little hipster-y, but friendly. I would give Magnolia Café 5 stars, but I’m removing a star for the cooking time. It took a REALLY long time for them to make the sandwich and the restaurant was not busy. The apple cheddar melt was an outstanding sandwich, but it shouldn’t have taken that long to make it. Overall though, Magnolia Café is a great restaurant for a casual and affordable breakfast or lunch!

Every time I eat lunch here it’s like time slows down and I love it. A 1 hour lunch feels like 3, a 30 minute lunch feels like an hour. The laidback vibe of KDHX really spread over into this place and if you’re trying to destress from work over lunch, this is the perfect place to do just that. It really is a hidden gem. If I remember correctly a lot of their sandwiches are pre-prepped by Triumph Grill, I’m not sure if that is the case anymore. But they are super tasty. I tend to get the egg salad with bacon on it. Drink-wise they only have bottled sodas, but they do have a few beers on tap and some additional ones bottled. Dessert-wise they have a mix of items from Whisk Bakery and Companion. If they have any granola bars from Companion when you stop in, I highly suggest you buy one, devour it immediately, and then buy any leftover granola bars for the road. It’s that good. From my experience, there really isn’t a lunch rush. I’ve only seen maybe two other tables occupied while eating, and it’s a very quiet lunch spot which makes it great for catching up with friends over a bite. Price-wise it is a little more expensive than it should be, BUT some of that money goes to KDHX, so it doesn’t bother me too much. Heck, now that I wrote this, I might go back for lunch tomorrow.
