Jax Café is amazing. We were there for Sunday Brunch with unlimited mimosas and were not disappointed. I had planned this part of our trip well in advance and was looking forward to it for weeks. Even with all that build up they met our expectations. Every thing on the buffet was clearly marked, distinctly flavored, and so delicious. There’s also an omelet bar that I was too full to sample. The staff is friendly and prompt and the restaurant is cute and comfortable to sit in. They accept reservations over the phone, which is always nice.

My family and I go at least twice a month. The food is always tasty, the owner very friendly and the servers are always on top of it. Each week is a different theme and they have all been tasty. We have become«regulars» and never have a complaint. Totally worth it.

Love this place for Saturday brunch, lunch, and dinner. I love G’s breakfast sandwich, the breakfast burrito, the scrumptious french toast. Great service, exceptional chef who was a chef at the now shuttered great St Louis restaurant, Monarch.

I liked going to Jax’s café. I got the buffet brunch. I must say my favorite thing on the buffet was a pulled meat that was so juicy and too good. I could have piled on the meat and ate just a plate of it. I got an omelet at the omelet bar. I liked that the guy brings it to you so you are not clogging up the space. I also liked that the omelet was not so big that it filled you up just eating that one item. The biscuits and gravy were good but I liked the pulled meat the best. I hate to say it but I don’t know if it was beef or pork or something else. I will go back again. It was very good. I did not partake in the bottomless bloody mary or mimosas. I was on a medication that would not have mixed well with alcohol. I believe the bloody marys are included in the price.

Well HELLO bottomless mimosas!!! Sunday brunch will have me driving from afar for this little gem tucked into Benton Park. Price for brunch is $ 17.99 and for a mere $ 4 more, you can have bottomless mimosas or bloody mary’s. Uh, no-brainer!(You can’t purchase a bottle of champagne plus OJ and all the fixins for brunch for that price! We slipped in around 11 on a Sunday morning and surprisingly found that it was not crowded. We saddled up to the bar and immediately got down to business with a mimosa and plate for the buffet brunch. I’m not certain you can order from the menu during brunch times, but there is plenty to offer for all kinds of different dietary needs. The omelet station features sausage, bacon, chorizo, onions, peppers, mushrooms, diced tomatoes and cheese and also features it’s own omelet man to put it all together for you. Since I couldn’t decide between the velvet eggs at the buffet, or the fancy omelet man, I went for both. I also spied pumpkin waffles(’tis the season), biscuits and gravy, mounds of fresh bacon and sausages, fresh zucchini and squash, and a table full of fruit, croissants and a delicious beet and shrimp dish — Yes, that’s right, and it was good! Brunch was a hit and our mimosa glasses never wanted to see the bottom. Great service, great brunch, I can’t wait till next Sunday!

Didn’t realize that the Sunday brunch is only offered as a $ 17 all you can eat buffet(an extra $ 4 for all you can mimosas). The food quite mediocre, nothing bad nothing good, and given the all you can eat/drink it is best suited as a hangover brunch for a group of people. Alternatively, if you’re undecided about you want to eat and want a smörgåsbord of fine food, then this a good place. Friendly service. Unremarkable atmosphere.

I came to Jax today for the Sunday brunch buffet and was REALLY pleased with my yummy meal. The selection was eclectic: biscuits and gravy, green beans, the doctor(delicious spicy chicken), chorizo egg drop, waffles, an omelet station, fresh fruit, etc. Service was friendly and attentive; atmosphere was sociable but laid-back. I had unlimited mimosas with my brunch($ 21 total) and there was an option for unlimited Bloody Mary, too($ 24). The only negative was that the water was gross. I definitely recommend this place!

Samantha did a good job serving our group of 9.5 Unilocalers(1 cute kid &1 bundle of joy represent the half). Jax has been hovering in my bookmarks for quite some time so when the fabulous Steven B. invited me to partake in the café’s buffet style Sunday Brunch, it was a no-brainier. The spread was small but mighty; Boursin scrambled eggs, loaded potatoes, waffles, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, fruit, pastries, and cute little shrimp salad cocktails. There was also an omelet station. The chef did not have egg whites readily available at the station but assured me he’d gladly go back to the kitchen and crack’em for me with no problem. I appreciated this gesture and took him up on the offer. My veggie egg white omelet was splendid! I’m a whip cream freak and flipped over the house-made mascarpone version delivered to me upon special request(I’m that girl who always has a special request). The mimosas where bottomless at $ 4. Brunch was $ 17. Totally affordable and worth the small change.

Tuscan inspired brunch buffet was a great treat for myself and a group of 8 friends. Fresh steamed mussels, perfectly cooked bacon, and egg soufflé were excellent right off the buffet. Made to order omelets were perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients. Great brunch topped with bottomless mimosas. The wait staff and cooks were incredibly welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this café for families, friends, and couples.

I only took part in the Bloody Marys but they were very good. The buffet looked really good and the other people I was with said it was quite tasty.

Ever since I saw the photo of sea bass in Sauce in September 2014 I have wanted to dine at Jax Café. Finally, nearly a year later, Ms T and I joined the D’s here for Saturday night dinner. We were excited to dine here since we are fans of Sidney Street Café. We took a good bottle of wine, corkage is $ 10. Jax is a nice little place on a corner in the Benton Park neighborhood. Parking can be a bit of a problem because it is street. We were able to get within a couple of blocks. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Our wine was opened and we just ordered the Fried Asparagus as an appetizer since we had already had a nice starter at the D’s house. The asparagus was breaded and deep fried with some mozzarella and served with an aioli. It was the best part of the meal after the wine. Ms D and Ms T both ordered a Chicken Breast that was served over couscous. The chicken was very plain, pretty much unseasoned, relatively tasteless and generally uninspired. Ms D and I liked the couscous though, which included some cherry tomatoes and an occasional raisin. I grew up eating fresh walleye from fishing trips to Minnesota. I have always said that it is fish for people who don’t like fish. So I almost ordered it, but had my mind made up for the Teres Major. Mr D did order the Walleye and was underwhelmed. I was picturing a nice filet, paneed to a golden color. He received three small cross-cut slices with skin on that just looked steamed to me. when I saw it, I was glad I did not order it, however… My Teres Major was not really any better. I am a fan of beef chuck; braised, roasted and ground for burgers and meat loaf. It is about all I buy. I was hungry for a steak and decided to try this trendy, cool steak, taken from the chuck and purported to be the second-most tender muscle on the beef. It was cooked properly(medium rare). It was not really tough, but certainly could not be called tender. I had some difficulty cutting it and it was what I would call, solid. Chuck, even the teres major, just does not work well as a steak no matter what the chefs are pushing. The bigger issue was that this was unseasoned and the meat tasted sour. I don’t think they touted it as grass-fed, but I wondered. It just was not well flavored. It was served with baked beans, a huge serving of overly creative, ill-conceived baked beans, made of all things, with red kidney beans. Nothing should be made with red kidney beans. This was heavy, sweet and sour and loaded with onion and a few of those raisins again. I barely touched the beans. I really wanted the oyster mushroom Bordelaise and dirty mashed potatoes that they listed on the menu on-line.(they don’t maintain their menu up-to-date on their website). The final accompaniment was some corn bread that I can safely say was the worst I have ever eaten. It was somehow powdery-floury, like it was made from corn flour rather than corn meal and the flour was not all wetted. This also did not get eaten. All the way around the table, we were underwhelmed and even disappointed. It is not often that all four of us get meals we would not order again, in a place like this. When we walked in, I was expecting so much more from Jax. I had visions of taking Bro J and TT there. The menu reads much better than the food. Our service was fine but the chef missed the mark both in concept and in execution. Apparently this might be a better place for the Sunday brunch.

Randomly came across here during lunch — and will be back soon! I got the breakfast sandwich and it was really good — I do think there should be two eggs on the sandwich instead of one. My friend got the Southwest Roast Beef and she said it was good too. The french fries were fresh cut potatoes and were okay, next time I would ask for them to be well done and I think that will make them be awesome.

We stopped here for a quick bite before touring the Brewery down the road. The pretzel sliders were phenomenal… one DID come out with a hair in it(a long one. I’m talking like 6 – 7 inches) but the other two were great! husband had the chorizo burger that was on special. It was pretty good but not special enough to order again. Overall a good place to eat, we’d stop back in for the sliders but probably not make a point to stop by every visit to the city.

Excellent food for an excellent price! Went on Saturday around lunch and we were one of 2 couples there. Weather was beautiful so we sat outside; great neighborhood surrounding. Service was a little slow, but there was only 1 person working inside so that’s understandable. The menu was limited but full of great options. I tried the chicken biscuits with a side of truffle fries and they were both absolutely delicious! And the price was fantastic: ~$ 25 for 2 people. Will definitely come back again. Five star food and overall experience.

An absolutely delicious menu and a fabulous, inviting staff. The atmosphere in Benton Park adds to it’s quirky charm. I would recommend Jax to anyone! We went on a whim after hearing great things about brunch. We came for dinner, and the Chilean sea bass changed my life. Now we HAVE to make it back for Sunday brunch! Neal was one of the best waiters we have ever had. Bravo, Jax! Please, keep doing what you’re doing. St. Louis needs more gems like you.

Descriptive phrase: delicious brunch buffet. Jax Café’s Sunday brunch buffet($ 17) came highly recommended. And adding unlimited mimosas for another $ 4 is hard to beat. It’s a cute space with plenty of street parking nearby. Our only sour note was the terrible service, but we overlooked that with the quality of the food. This particular day(it changes) the buffet was southwest-themed. We tried near everything they had and it was all fantastic. In particular I enjoyed the very spicy breakfast chili. Jax Café isn’t an every-week brunch, but it’s very nice every once and a while for a quality morning meal.

Jax’s Sunday brunch buffet is pretty top-notch. Quality sausage, bacon, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, and more. And the made-to-order omelets are a very nice touch. It’s in a quiet little corner of Benton Park and offers a cozy place to grab a bite or a drink. However, I don’t know if I came on an off day or what, but we left on a rather sour note. As Jax had been talked up by friends my expectations were rather high, so the poor service we had there was really disappointing. No one was rude, don’t get me wrong, they were just horribly understaffed. The 1 chef and 1 omelette maker had to help the 1 server/bartender with cleaning and bringing out food for the whole restaurant. It was a messy rush for the entirety of our stay. Having limited knowledge of Jax’s brunch, we left with just as little. Literally no one came to talk to us about the buffet and after 10 minutes the 1 stressed server/bartender came for our drinks. After dropping them off(but not giving any information on the restaurant) we didn’t hear from anyone again for 20+ minutes(grabbed someone for a refill), and then once more at the end(grabbing someone for our check). Without info we guessed and just went to the buffet line to grab a plate. There were no signs or menus or rules, so I went up a few times. Like I stated earlier, all the food was good-to-okay. Zero complaints there. Another big annoyance — without any info or help I didn’t realize the $ 17 price tag for the buffet included *everything*. We ordered a soda and a coffee, not realizing that bottomless mimosas were available and that any other drink was part of the price. I would have ordered juice etc. if I had known that. I thought $ 17 for a decent buffet was a little steep but not too bad, but when I realized too late everything that came with it I was incredibly annoyed no one mentioned it. Oh well. I may try Jax again in the future for lunch/dinner/drinks, but I have no real desire to go back on my own any time soon. Hopefully for them the one day I came was just a fluke and they aren’t always so short staffed.

Let me start by saying Jax Café is absolutely my favorite place in St Louis to get lunch! It doesn’t end there either as the service is always extra friendly and the value is great also Of the items I’ve had, I’ll discuss a few that stand out: — The Burger is amazing and is one of the best in St Louis. The combination of the housemade steak sauce, bacon and boursin is amazing and the onion strings give a nice contrast in texture. — The pretzel sliders are so soooo good! The brisket is tender, very flavorful and the combination of mushroom and horseradish with white cheddar is really amazing — I would take this over the brisket sandwich from any of the big time BBQ places in STL! — Other favorites I’ve had are the Chicken Biscuit and Daffy Duck. A couple awesome and unique options! Oh, and for all of the above get the truffle fries for a nominal fee — totally worth it! My only criticism would be that this place can get a bit busy on a Friday during lunch and sometimes they seem a bit understaffed in the front of the house. As of lately, this seems to be improving but something to keep track of as these servers are great and deserve the best! Go here if you haven’t already — hats off to Chef Hale for such a great restaurant with some of the best food around!

I wanted to like this place… I did. Seemed cool enough but there are some things that just try a little too hard. The adult beverages were not good… and I hated the fact that I had to change my clothes before we continued our day.

On a whim three weeks ago a friend and I swung by Jax for Saturday morning brunch. I have been addicted to Jax ever since(I’ve been 5 times in the last three weeks in order to assure I got the«full» experience, also, I luckily live only a block away). This little Benton Park restaurant is, quite simply, one of the best(if not the best) spots to grab breakfast or dinner in the St. Louis area. Everything I’ve ordered has been delicious, this list includes: steak, breakfast sandwiches, fried chicken, pork, potatoes, tuna nachos, bacon, and a desert or two. Not only was it all amazing, but the prices are very reasonable and the food was cooked perfectly(I don’t always trust a non-steakhouse with cooking my steak, but I trusted Jax, and that trust was rewarded). Not only is the food fantastic, but the atmosphere and service are just as impressive. I have been served by Neil and Katie, both of whom were expert servers. And let me just take a second to sing Neil’s praises, he makes an expert cocktail and is fantastic with kids and adults alike, he truly adds to the experience. It’s rare to find a restaurant with this combination of stellar food and great service(and nearly impossible when you include the reasonable prices). I already consider myself a regular here and, if you haven’t been, I would suggest getting here as soon as you can before the crowds start lining out the door on a daily basis. Run, don’t walk, to Jax.
