I participated in a focus group this afternoon. There were eight people in the group. Upon arrival, I signed in, gave them the letter they emailed me to confirm I was me, and signed a confidentiality agreement. We all sat in the reception area until it was time to begin. Beverages were offered. The market researcher conducting the focus group was terrific and particularly diligent to be sure she heard from everyone on their opinions, comments and votes. The entire focus group was recorded(not videotaped), and those who commissioned the study were behind the one-way mirrors. They started on time and ended on time. We were paid as we left. It was very interesting. And I commend companies for conducting this type of market research to hear from consumers. I’ve been answering Hatch email surveys for a few years, and this is just the second time I’ve been called in to actually participate in a study.

You do focus studies here and earn money for it. That is the gist of the place. I don’t know if I can write a review on the service of the other than that the people who work there are very nice and orderly with the way they do things. I’ve done 2 focus groups here. You have a phone screening with them before you are brought in. Usually you first call them to see if you qualify for anything. They ask you a series of questions pertaining to the research study, if you qualify, they bring you in. They pay you for your time, opinion, and such. They compensate well usually. Tonight’s study that I did paid $ 60 just for being there. What determines if you stay longer or not is based on how you answer your questions when they do the group study. At that point, they break you from the larger group and ask more personalized questions based on the study. I didn’t go to the next round. They sent 14 people home out of the 26, so I was with the majority. The other 12 were compensated $ 100 for the extra time they stayed. It’s a pretty sweet deal if you want to pick up some extra cash. The studies are very individualized. If you don’t fit a certain group that they are trying to focus on, then you’re obviously not going to make it into the study group. My advice is keep calling and see if you get past the phone screening to try your luck.

I am very pleased with my experience with Hatch. I did a study on Utility Bills. The class was fun, and short. They provided some snacks and beverages. At the end of the study, you got paid immediately which was fantastic! Easiest money I have made in a long time!
